Daimon: Daimon is the Greek derivative for the term demon. n this sense the term "demon" means "replete with
knowledge." The ancient Greeks thought there were good and bad demons called 'eudemons' and 'cacodemons.' The term 'daimon' means "divine
power," "fate" or "god."
Daimons, in Greek mythology, included deified heroes. They were considered intermediary spirits between men and the gods. Good daimons were considered
to be guardian spirits, giving guidance and protection to the ones they watched over. Bad daimons led people astray.
Socrates said he had a life-time daimon that always warned him of danger and bad judgment, but never directed his actions. He said his daimon was more
accurate than omens of either watching the flights or reading the entrails of birds, which were two respected forms of divination of the time.
Dematerialization: dematerialise - dematerialize: become immaterial; disappear
Demon: Demons are said to have the ability to enter your home via the Ouija board, it is claimed that in such
cases a demon will attach itself to an individual and not the home and therefore will follow where ever that person goes, similar too but not to be
confused with possession.
Refers to an evil spirit and is associated with fallen angels, can also refer to the Devil which can be more powerful than man, but less powerful than
God. A female demon is a Demoness.
Demonologist: A person who actively pursues demons and other nonhuman entitles both for study and to help people
rid them from their lives.
Usually demonologists are very religious people as they believe strongly that only faith has the power to combat a demon. They are also usually
schooled and or experienced in the field of psychology and mental health.
Direct Voice Phenomenon (DVP): Is a spirit voice, spoken directly to sitters at a séance. The sound usually seems
to come from a point near the medium, or through a spirit horn or trumpet, but not from the mouth of the medium.
Dowsing (aka Divining): The ability to use a pair of rods (often metal) held in the hands to locate objects, most
commonly water. A Y-shaped tree branch can also be used for finding water.
In the paranormal investigation field Dowsing Rods are sometimes used to locate energy sources that could be paranormal in nature.
Doppelganger: Meaning "double walker" in German, a doppelganger is, basically, the shadow every human has;
however, there is some intelligence given to it. It may only be seen by its owner, although it is reported that pets can often see one's
doppelganger.
The doppelganger is there for one's support and sympathy but will sometimes give advice, thoughts and ideas by whispering them in their owner's ear.
While rare, doppelgangers will occasionally decide to make themselves seen by others and they do so by manifesting as a double of their owner.
They then go about playing tricks that can sometimes be quite mean, causing great distress for the owner's family and friends. If the owner sees
their doppelganger in this complete form, it is a sign of bad luck and great misfortune, and some believe it means the owner will soon die. Other
beliefs are that the doppelganger is one's astral body, one's soul or an apparition of a living person.
Earthbound: A term referring to a ghost or spirit that for some reason was unable to cross over to the other side
at the time of their death and is stuck or attached to the earth.
Echolalia: A professional clinical word that means to repeat back what you hear. As applied to the paranormal
field it means when a ghost or spirit repeats back something you have just said in order to show they are there and are trying to communicate with
you.
The words repeated back could be EVP questions or just casual conversation. It is not clear why an entity might repeat back your words rather than
respond on their own. Perhaps it is easier/simply for an entity to repeat what it has heard rather than form new words.
Ectoplasm: The substance left behind when an entity tries to manifest itself. Although still largely theoretical
(none has yet been collected for chemical analysis) it has been photographed on many occasions. Ectoplasm often appears in photographs as a thick
white mist or smoke in nearly straight lines.
Vapor and humidity is often mistaken for ectoplasm. It is rarely seen with the naked eye. It can, however, be felt as a dense area of cobweb-like
strands.
Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP): The capture of spirit voices on magnetic tape as an audio recording. Many
times, no sound is heard while the tape is recording. It's only upon playback that the harsh, hushed voices can be heard.
Electro Magnetic Field (EMF): A field of force associated with electric charge in motion. There is a theory that
a high amount of electromagnetic energy can cause poltergeist activity, but also a theory that these same high energy levels attract spirit and that
it is indeed spirit that cause the strange phenomena.
Elementals: Many societies believe in the existence of elemental spirits, those spirits that have never inhabited
human form but consist of the base human emotions, such as love, anger, fear, etc. Elemental spirits are usually entrusted with the care and guarding
of sacred areas and lands.
Entity: A generic all-encompassing term used to describe a paranormal object/being that is presumed to be a ghost
or spirit. Since no one is yet 100% sure what paranormal objects really are the term "entity" is used as a pronoun to include any and all possible
things such as ghosts, spirits, poltergeists, non-human spirits etc.
Exorcism: The expulsion of a ghost, spirit, demon, or other entity/entities thought to be possessing or haunting a
human being or location.
The ritual, conducted by an exorcist, is usually religious in nature, and calls upon some Higher Power to cast out the evil force(s).
Extra Sensory Perception (ESP): The paranormal sensing of sight, sound, taste, smell and touch. ESP is divided
into three categories, telepathy, clairvoyance and precognition. ESP occurs in mediumship, possession, cases of apparitions, some cases of
poltergeists, hauntings, near-death experiences and out-of-body experiences.
Fear Cage: A term used to describe a confined area such as a walk in closet, hallway or basement with very high
EMF readings. The combination of being close and confined within an area of strong EMF often brings out extremely great feelings of uneasiness,
anxiety, paranoia and/or uncontrollable fear.
When this occurs the best thing is to quickly and calmly leave the area and go to a more open area with lower EMF.
Ghost: A spirit or shade of a dead person believed to haunt people or previous habitats/locations. The spirit
remains of a living being, strongly attached to the living realm by some form of emotional force.
Often ghosts do not realize that they are in fact dead. Others live out the routine of the day they died, and continue this in a cycle. Other ghosts
interact with everyday life of the living.
Ghost Hunter: A person who searches for, finds, and sometimes is able to identify apparitions or the cause of
spirit activity. A ghost investigation, on the other hand, is a carefully controlled research project, set up to record paranormal activity, usually
at a location known or presumed to be haunted.
Half Real Objective: When you perceive nothing subjectively but obtain objective documentation.
Half Real Subjective: When you subjectively perceive something that was not documented via objective means.
Hallucination: A false or distorted perception of objects or events with a full belief in their reality. Ghosts,
as we define them, are not hallucinations, because they have a real, external cause.
Haunting: The repeated manifestation of strange and inexplicable sensory phenomena said to be caused by ghosts or
spirits. A ghost that returns to the same location is said to haunt it.
Ghosts generally haunt places, not people, however it is not unusual for a spirit to attach itself to a particular individual or family due to a
familial connection.
