Ex-officer suspect in California cop killing

The area of the firefight is 20 miles from Big Bear City where they were searching.
He is in the Santa Ana River Trail area more info on that trail in the San Bernardino Mountains

Live radio of whats going on. He shot two fish and game officers. They reported he was involved in a home invasion and tyed up a couple but they got away.

In addition he stole their pickup truck which is the vehicle I referenced earlier that Dorner was driving.
CNN initially reported that car was stolen on Sunday

The vehicle that KCAL's chopper showed was a Silver Nissan Murano type vehicle with all the doors and the back hatch open. NOT the pickup first reported.

Smoke is being scene by the KCAL chopper in the vicinity of the Dorner standoff
Speculation the cabin he is held up in is Dorner's "staging area"

Ok smoke coming up from near the road. Not near anyone exactly. Maybe Dorner threw a smoke grenade? No real purpose, very small. Almost looks like smoke coming from out of the ground, pipe from the cabin?

2) LA Times is reporting it began with a shootout resulting from the couple Dorner took hostage and vehicle he stole.

Note: The KCAL reporter who was literally withing feet of law enforcement involved in the firefight during the firefight has not been wounded but we haven't heard a peep out of him since law enforcement was screaming at him during the firefight (broadcast live with expletives on KCAL)

I'm hearing the Big Bear Mayor Jay Obernolte on CNN talk about this scenario but where's Dorner...is it him or not. The mayor is reporting that Dorner is pinned down in a cabin.

Law enforcement sources believe that Dorner is not so much "held up" in the cabin but believe the cabin is a well planned "staging area" he had set up for a battle such as this.

According to the scanner I'm listening to they do have him pinned in a cabin exchanging fire. They have been telling each other minimal communication on certain channels because of this.

KCAL is reporting that this area of the San Bernadino National Forrest which is full of many, many cabins was NOT searched during that massive search of Big Bear.

Carter Evans from KCAL is back on the air (pulled up @ same time as authorities). He is hearing 2 San Bernadino Sheriff deputies have been hit but IMO he is giving the impression it is not life threatening.

- Dorner is hold up in the cabin 100 yards from Carter Evans.
- LE is trying to determine the best way to get Dorner out
- Evans is not sure if the active, ongoing gunfire is due to a firefight or something else
- The scene looks like a military action
- Who "they believe is Dorner" is in the cabin completely surrounded by LE
- It is an L shaped cabin with a stone chimney
"This is an area that there are a lot of these cabins around here"
- It is the South side of the Mountain where his car was found Saturday

After it went on for a while the caller says to the anchor:
"You're a real dumbass you still don't know that this is a prank?"

OMG...Did you all just hear that

So this guy breaks into a home, ties up a couple, steals their car, and is now holed up in a cabin? Doesn't make any sense whatsoever from him considering he was going to wage "asymetrical warfare" to enact his revenge. This guy seems a lot dumber than he was supposedly made out to be.
