For 17 seconds, according to the turks. But yet warned during 5min, how can this be? I don't understand?!

The jets were circling, getting closer and closer to Turkey. Eventually, they entered Turkish airspace. Jets travel at about 8 miles per minute, so 17 seconds can cover a lot of territory.

No one is starting a war with russia. Turkey defended its airspace... Just as syria is allowed to do.

Then Russia should have listened the first several times it was warned about violating Turkish airspace.

That may be true but your going on here say.

It also doesn't matter. There isn't a single european, US, Canadian country who would have handled it that way. They would have been escorted out by planes.

It appears to have now been confirmed that 10 warnings were issued - sorry, can't provide a link, I'm watching that on the TV. The source is via the Pentagon as it happens for what I just heard so depends if you believe them or not at this point. Frankly, I think you have made your mind up and if one of the countries you quoted was next to what is effectively a war zone and a hot, loaded fighter jet is over your territory, not sure you would be so polite as to escort it out.

Well history indicates differently. Most nations escort planes out unless they ignore the physical warning of the escort. As a failsafe for radio differences problems.

I have made my mind up that it was a dumb move on Turkeys part and they shouldn't be in NATO.

Also Russia just had a passenger jet blown out of the sky by Isis. This was a time to bring everyone one in not start something bigger.

I have the right to shoot a twelve year old breaking into my garrage but I didn't do it.

History may shown differently if it's an airliner - please don't mix the two. And if a twelve year old is breaking into your garage? What kind of analogy is that? Howabout a guy your size with a couple of loaded guns walking about your garden if you want something more appropriate?

Turkey should clean it #ing house out and stop the support of terrorists!

I dont want the UK to shed one drop of blood NATO or not over a country thats backing terrorists!

Turks have had 2.5million refugees and Turks don't support ISIS .

Get your facts right .

If NATO is meant to dissolve as a result of this incident so be it .

British Interests in the Eastern Med will definetely be better when Russians are in charge , right ?

What has this got to do with refugees?

Turkey does support terrorists. Turkey provide a safe passage for terrorists, Turkey turns a blind eye to terrorists, Turkey buys stolen oil from terrorists.

Your posts in this thread totally takes the mickey .

Turks and ISIS are enemies . This little fact is unknown to you yet you have a strongly biased opinion .

Turks have their own operatives in ISIS or any other Western Created Organisation in the Middle East .

64 countries buy oil from ISIS .

Get over it .

Don't kill Anti - ISIS TURKMENS of SYRIA and NO ONE SHOOTS at the planes , capish ?

It was 17 seconds could it be 1 second also. I fail to understand how did they warn 10 times during 5 minutes, if it was a breach of 17 seconds? Can you explain?

Imagine if it was a France or US airplane? Afterall they said in the letter it was two unidentified airplanes. So the "October" violation you mention doesn't apply.

A stab in a back to those who are really fighting terrorism.

PLEASE SOMEONE WHOMS NEUTRAL AND OBJECTIVE GIMME A RUN DOWN OF THE LAST 5 HOURS

firstly ^^^^ that's the edit
a reply to: djz3ro
Sorry felt I had to at least reply to you
Naah you're ok buddy I'll stick to what I have
WELL I did say apparently...not as a get out but because thats exactly what I was told.....apparently
Secondly.....I've just finished work and not been in contact with my buddy at joint personnel recovery centre, where NATO runs their combat search and rescue from.....one of the things they do is monitoring all emergency frequencies and other bits and pieces, to be honest I don't know as I've never worked there and was not that interested at the time to find out. ZAPHOD could probably tell you more than I can
Due to the "hangar" mentality this afternoons been spent double checking kit, rehearsing certain drills, and confirmation training on certain systems so I'm not aware of the medias current version, or nations versions

There's a shed load of catching up for me to do, read this search myself ...make a few calls send a few texts........answer you

So perhaps as your sources are better please give me a objective brief rundown of the last 5 hours

Many thanks in advance

Oh forgot to mention on the run in hostile area does not mean hasn't found shelter with a sympathetic group.
You have no idea just how .....dynamic the area is

Russia has already started its little game of "Change the Story." First, two jets over Syrian territory were shot down by terrorist artillery fire. Then two planes were shot down from Turkey, and now, two Turkish jets violated Syrian airspace and shot down a Russian jet, the pilots of which were then murdered by terrorists as they dangled in their parachutes. It's MH-17 all over again.

This is off topic but would love to know which terrorist organisation Turkey is supporting.

The fact is that Turkey shot down a Russian plane that was trespassing. This has happened in the past. Either Russia did it accidently, or they have been deliberately provocative. Either way, what's done is done.

This won't lead to war. Russia is geographically out of place to attack Turkey for a start. There will be some harsh language and RT.com will be really convincing. Even if there is an escalation, it will be local. Turkey has the capability to completely outmatch Russia in the small Syrian enclave and Turkey will be able to prevent any Russian build up by closing the Bosporus. It is a war of words and will calm down in a day, or two. I am sure Nostradamus made this prediction.

Just so we can remember:

Here are the alleged paths of the two Russian jets:

Here is the letter that was sent to the UN:

If the Turks warned the Russian planes for 10 minutes or 10 times as news or this letter claims then how can one reconcile that and this letters claim that Russian aircraft violated Turks airspace for 17 seconds.

Something's not jiving here.

I think the Turks should have used some restraint instead of escalating the incident if that's what it was, color me skeptical, and recorded the flight data as basis for a UN complaint.

Error or not on the Russians part one kilometer is a relatively short distance of incursion which given Turks ISIS support looks bad on them.

Compounding the issue is the vicious killing of the pilots and shoot down of the SAR helicopters.

I think escalation is order of the day.

Turkey would be able to ID French or US planes via IFF. I imagine the warnings were made to the planes as they started to close on Turkish airspace.

I saw the same info. Apparently Russia was in their airspace for all of 17 secs. Turkey's out of order...they've got their own agenda (trying to prevent the Kurds expanding their territory). Did I also see a report re Russia targeting IS oil production capabilities?

I'm watching the full throttle propaganda running between BBC, Sky and RT. RT's not mincing their words.

As I have already explained, the planes kept looping around, growing closer to Turkey on each pass. In 17 seconds, a plane can cover about three miles.

But they are changing their story. It went from a jet being shot down by artillery over Syria to Turkish jets violating Syrian airspace!
