Hey, mm, your link is interesting.

First thing that caught my eye was the genome anylizer sequencer (linky about the genome sequencer job found from the OP link) affilliated with Illumina Inc.

Excerpt from the "What We Do" section:

Illumina develops and manufactures technology that allows researchers to gather, process, and analyze genetic information-LOTS of genetic information-that can be used to study the causes of disease. For instance, why is one person more likely to develop Type-2 diabetes than another? Why do some people respond favorably to certain cancer-fighting drugs, while others are unaffected? By identifying genetic similarities and differences across genders, age groups, ethnicities, and individuals, we can all gain a better understanding of how to prevent, treat, and cure illness. Illumina offers the most comprehensive "tool kit" for modern genetic analysis, which includes genotyping, gene expression and sequencing. Our products help scientists answer complex biological questions—at a revolutionary speed and cost. And we're just getting started.

That sounds pretty awesome!

I'm going to go swim around a bit...

Thanks for the interesting thread.

To spend or not to spend?

A classic question.

I, as well as many others, constantly criticize the government for its spending. But sometimes, I have to wonder if I am talking just out of anger.

I guess what angers me the most is that most of this money goes to huge contractors or companies that are mainly ripping off the government. I mean is a hammer or toilet seat really worth 600 dollars?

On the other end, I think of what would happen if we were to reduce government spending. In my mind, I imagine the big boys still getting a substantial piece of the pie while the government closes or reduces programs that are beneficial to average Americans.

I really don't think Americans would be too pleased if government was to try to close or reduce programs. Instead of complaining about spending we would complain about them not spending.

I just wish the government was better adept at controlling the excess money they are paying for products and services.

Great thread Mental

Ya I think I "think" out of anger myself.

When my head is clear (rare) I realize it is the balance of government and business
is what makes this place free as we know it.

If it were all Government - we would be horribly stifled and bored.

All business - we would directly ruled by business which is geared to earn as much money as possible, means lower wages would serve the "rulers" objectives.

To be honest I am glad to see some of the stipulations in these contracts, "small business only", "100% disabled vet small business only"

I can also say it is better than paying unemployment in return for "nothing".

The question is will this help in the long run? I guess time will tell

Ya... I guess I am a little tired. The name Illumina struck a cord with me just like the name Proteus as in the company name in SD's thread he posted a while back. My tired brain thought they were the same company.

So disreguard that last post... talk about mental.

When I get excited about something I need to logout until I've grounded myself a bit.

side note I bought a car and hired a plumber in the last few months so I am helping the economy

I notice some dam projects. I think these are pretty worthwhile considering what happened in Orleans and other areas that have flooded.

Considering the requirements and number of projects, I can see why the money hasn't been flowing out that fast.

Well I was digging around some more and it got me wondering how some of this is going to impact infrastructure.? I think the dam and levee and sewer work seems I am sure long overdue and have a long term impact. But (and maybe I didn't dig around enough) I really didn't see a whole lot of big infrastructure projects -mostly fixes and inspections and small projects.

I guess as someone posted earlier the cost would be too great.

Lots of baby steps I guess will have a far more positive affect on the economy then a few big steps.

Maybe we should have a people's appointed infrastructure czar for each state... wait isn't that supposed to be the governor?

I guess what I am saying is maybe it would be prudent of us to be accountable for how we live and the ever growing population by, dare I say, making government bigger? We need to be more responsible for our infrastructure. (Obviously not TOO big -I'm not talking NWO here guys.)

I live in Minnesota where the recent 35W bridge collapsed so I have seen first hand where our infrastructure has failed us.

Is it too much for us to ask that we should feel safe to drive over our bridges and know that our dams are structurally sound?

We are heading in the right direction anyway with the projects that are in the recovery. And that includes some of health care projects that are proposed (like the one I mentioned earlier in this thread). Because part of our infrastructure consists of the health of the people, therefore, health reform is necessary as well in bettering our infrastructure.

What gets me is how government goes out and builds new roads, bridges, and parks yet don't have money to fix the ones we already have.

In Texas, Perry wanted to build all these fancy tollways. I say hell with tollways and making a corporation richer. He should focus on the roads we have. Roads that Texans pay taxes for.

Without a good infrastructure (like China has now) it slows our progress and endangers people. Do you want salmonella or something in your tap water? How about no water all coming out of that faucet you take so much for granted? How about a bridge collapsing and killing people?

I for one do not want America looking like some third world country with potholes in the highway, blackouts, and dams giving way.

I am FOR investing in our own country, citizens and future.
