I'm a conservative and I have no problem with it. At 1st I did, but bowing is a common greeting throughout most of the world. The other conservatives won't except that so I prepared some excerpts from the greatest warrior in history that may reflect Obama's true purpose. LOL

If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected.

Engage people with what they expect; it is what they are able to discern and confirms their projections. It settles them into predictable patterns of response, occupying their minds while you wait for the extraordinary moment — that which they cannot anticipate.

For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.

He bows, so what. I recall a time when we let several chinese generals on board our subs and battleships during live fire excercises. These Chinese generals were on the bridge and privy to everything we were doing. Sounds stupid doesn't it? Giving away secrets, firepower etc... We already knew we were vastly superior to them in the technological sense, after the 3 days of excercises they knew it too. They would never again wonder if they could possibly take us in a naval battle. Let him bow, let him show respect however he sees fit. He's a govenor of our country, not a king, not an emporer, not a queen, no a dictator... An elected official. Showing humility. Everyone he bows to still fears the US military. So bow Obama. No matter how many times you do it, we still are the greatest nation in the world as well as the preminant global military power.

He's still a socialist scumbag. And I'm still not sure why people nitpick about trivial matters rather than confronting his real issues.

the common response is that its courteous to bow when you are greeting someone that has those customs...it is also customary to participate in your own customs and i have yet to see someone be as gracious enough as to return the favor

That means nothing.

We are not talking about Bush.

This is why people who are political sheep are truly sad. When Bush was in office I went after Bush for a lot of things. I didn't like his big borrowing and spending and his decision to go to Iraq.

With that said, this has nothing to do with Bush.

So Democrat sycophants, stop bringing up Bush when you can't defend Obama.

The President of The United States should bow to no one but it doesnt matter everyone will just make jokes about it and play it off .While our enemies see weakness and bolster there forces because they feel our President is to weak to be any real threat to them .

I would like to nominate this thread as the most pointless thread of 2010. Seriously this is the topic. Why is Obama bowing? Grow up, read a book and learn what it means to be culturally aware. Why would shaking his had be a sign of respect for the Chinese leader...that is not their custom.

You treat people with the respect and customs that THEY expect. I'm sure a handshake also took place at some point.

I do not pray but when in company of others who do, I bow my head out of respect. This does not mean that I am weak it means that I am respectful of others.

Seriously if you do not like Obama, fine. Go look for some real issues to cover. Why not talk about him not ending the wars in the ME? Why not mention the fact that he is still operating with the patriot act? Why not look at and criticize a policy issue that actually matters.

Why the swear words? Bowing in those countries that practice bowing
is THEIR custom and culture. That does not make those countries weak.
Don't you get it at all? These men were meeting in Washington DC, not
in Peking. Regardless of where the President meets someone, he does
NOT bow to ANYONE. That puts out a very clear message of being a
weakling President, no matter how you slice it.

And then you go on to whine about our financial situation. That really has
a lot to do with this goofy thread. And then you say that if anyone just took
5 minutes to study other cultures, they would know that bowing is a sign
of respect. So is a handshake, or did no one ever teach you how to show
respect to another by shaking hands? I suppose you would rather high
five or do a hand bump to a visiting official?

And just how much culture have you bothered to study as you alluded to?

I think it is time to close this moronic thread. It has gone from Kung Foo
fighters to the financial situation.

I will also add you guys are so goddamn racist if you think that bowing a sign of weakness. By that logic, doesn't that mean you find asian countries weak?

and if you say yes, you know nothing about our financial situation.

Bowing is a sign of respect, any American who takes 5 minutes to study other cultures would know that.

/oh and we owe china billions. I'd be doing ten kinds of bowing to whomever I owed that much money to.

edit: because this thread actually got this bad

Hey maybe some people are rascist,

but the comment that obama is weak because of the bowing to foreign powers may be what one non-obama supporter feels. It does not make them "Rascist" The rascism card seems to be used anytime you undermind Obamas Policy. The users comment He/she made is just expressing him/herself.

Maybe some people feel obama is a big sellout, and they are right, he is selling our economy to other countries to destabilize the USA and force a World Currency on folks. YOU WILL SEE O_o So ya take it ez with the Rascist blah blah that sheit is old.

if someone is rascist, it means they are uneducated and dont realize not all one race or gender of people is the same as the rest. so maybe instead of Calling names, we should educate or spread a more positive message.

Why does President Obama bow to certain other heads of state? Because it's good manners and the correct protocol. In some countries, for example Japan, Korea and China, bows are the proper form of greeting. It is their version of shaking hands. If you notice, President Obama is careful to make sure that his bow is the exact same depth and duration as the other party's to indicate their equal status as heads of government. If you think his actions the equivalent perhaps of the traditional Chinese kow-tow or prostration, then you have no idea what a real kow-tow looked like.

Lets all agree, because its beyond evidentially proven that the bowing was a form of respect. Now the real controversy is WHY This act of respect was shown to a foreign leader as has not been shown in the past by US presidents. WHY did he want to humble himself and flatter foreign powers. I believe to gather world support, can we all agree with this???

Dude get over it. Find something with substance to complain about. I hate Obama, greatly.

But get real. In the position. It's a courteous sign of respect, i.e. diplomatic. All of you need to stop barking like dogs over the dumbest crap.

@killuminati???

No we can't. Go find something constitutional worthy to complain about. Not bowing for diplomatic reasons to a country that lends us most of our money and owns most of our debt. You guys should really see how you sound.

I know this may sound weird, but maybe just maybe Obama is a closet homosexual and this is some sort weird fetish he has. Must be, I'm convinced it has an Asian submission angle.

For the love of god what depths will these dems not bow down to?

You are correct, its his right to make a thread on whatever silly thing he wants. And it is my right to comment on how pointless and silly this topic is. The OP is treating this issue as though it actually matters in the large scheme of things. Does it? Really?

I think that the people who do think this is a big deal are ignorant and not well educated on issues regarding cultural sensitivity.

Ummmm, no. It doesn't. I don't know where people come up with this junk. Seriously, grow up. This thread needs to be laid to waste. I've noticed the popular thing among Obama haters is to try and get on the Bush hating wagon too. "Oh, I didn't like Bush either. It's not about Obama it's about the presidency." YAAAAAA whatever. We don't forget what you guys were like 2 years ago so don't come around acting like you were against Bush all along. The only reason they're against Bush now is because they've discovered Obama is like a Bush III. To truly despise Obama is to despise Bush. These people just have no choice but to hate Bush so that they won't be seen as the bigots they are. Once again, let me put in a disclaimer like I always have to before anyone gets riled up and tries lumping me into some majority group I want no part of: I'm not a freckin Democrat! Nor a Republican! Nor any ridiculous party that operates within our country's political landscape. I'm a member of the party of rational thinkers who want to live honest lives surrounded by honest people. Reading this thread makes me lose hope though. Some people just will not stop until they kill themselves and the rest of us off with their stupidity, dishonesty and ignorance.

Well, you guys can go google all this stuff yourself, but the proper bow is done with hands at your side, not reaching forward to shake hands. Plus, the bow should be reciprocated...which it wasn't.

According to one link, the US State Department's protocol officer's have been instructing President's not to bow for over 200 years.

Presidents don't bow

Furthermore, the bow (same as this one) that the President performed for Japan's emperor last year was identified as showing weakness.

Source

“The bow as he performed did not just display weakness in Red State terms, but evoked weakness in Japanese terms….The last thing the Japanese want or need is a weak looking American president and, again, in all ways, he unintentionally played that part.

While considered by many here in this thread as a matter of respect, the bow is incorrect, is not necessary according to the State Department and is being done on US soil, where OUR customs should be respected and not vice versa.
