This is interesting
I took a poke through some old threads on various subjects...some very well researched and highly impactful in society, some with clearly hours of research involved
and got no more than a few flags and a handful of comments.

Not even talking about my own posts..mine are hit and miss, but other people that truely put time and effort into bringing the quality of ATS up with real solid conspiracys.

and this post gets over 20 flags and endless pages over a president giving a bow like every president before him...no conspiracy, no oddness..just a "omg, the guy I hate did something..lets flame on"..

it gets front page for ages, it spikes through the roof.

I find this trend (because it is a trend. ATS is quickly becoming home to nonsense bash the potus mindsets) very disturbing..

How to solve it...

perhaps political madness subjects should only count for 1/4th a flag considering they really add nothing to any rational discussion...the only problem here is that there are some decent threads in political madness when used approprately...but it has become the defacto list of hoaxes and reasons why people hate obama with zero conspiracy potential.

this is a great thread....

liberals come running to defend obama and swear its just being courteous or showing respect.

conservatives shreik its a sign of weakness(which i agree with)

but i ask you do liberals practice what they preach? read all of these posts
in every single post from a liberal are they showing other posters respect or courtsey?

the answer is obviously no....

Oh contraire, this is but a microcosom of the state of affairs being displayed publically throughout our country right now.

Look at the Tea Party movement. Started out as a grass roots movement with good intentions in directing the country back to sound principles. Now, there's talk on the left of infiltrating it for what nefarious purposes? And the right is trying to absorb it and ride its wave of popularity to the November elections.

People have grown extremely frustrated with this monster we call the federal government over the last 20 years. They want real change and a majority of the public doesn't like the direction the country is going.

It used to be that a majority opinion meant something. Now it's special interests, corporate lobbyists and minority orginizations that pull the puppet strings of just about every major player in Washington, from the President on down.

The frustration stems from the fact that this majority don't feel that anyone is really listening to them. They get the impression that those jumping on the Tea Party bandwagon are only doing so to garner enough support to win an election in November, when in fact these people are wolf's in sheeps clothing and will resume business as usual once elected.

This is why you hear talk of revolution and militias and state's rights and the Constitution. People want to be free and free we ain't.

I am neither a fan nor a supporter of Obama, and disagree with many of his policy initiatives. However I fail to understand how bowing is a sign of weakness. One can be strong, act from a position of strength, and project strength while simultaneously showing respect, humility, and honor.

The two are not mutually exclusive in my opinion.

People don't owe the United States that much money. A lot of stuff we do is under the IMF, who is owed the money. We work for them for free, due to us oweing them.

And we GIVE away money and weapons to nations. It's not a debt owed.

yep...clearly the posts of the conservatives here are clean. :-p

It always makes me chuckle how each side yells at the other for the exact same thing they themselves do...

yeah that's right...I said EACH side...if you can't see that both are guilty...well...I'll leave you with that then

LOL I challenge you to even tell me what socialism is and how its bad.

It is bad because it only take one corrupt individual to ruin it for everyone else ,if everyone is fair then yes the system will work .However the world is filled with liers and money hungry fiends so it will never work and here is why it is bad ..

www.gendercide.org...

jeebus! That sounds like another system I know...I think we call it democracy...not sure though because it might be a Republic. Oh yeah...no greed, lying and money hungry folk here in these United States...so where again did the money from the bailout go to? That's right...to pay off the big whigs who sunk us into this into the first place

yup...socialism is evil

Sorry, can you please point out who deserves respect based on position here?

If I met the pope, I would give a slight bow and shake hands...and I am agnostic. Why? because its something you do to acknowledge position and tradition.

I personally view willfully culturally unaware people as weak minded.

good lord people (mainly republicans) will look for ANY reason to trash a dem in office! bowing is the equivalent to a hand shake in our country. why is it republicans can't handle a dem being in office? i'm an independent i can go either way, but come on! clinton is impeached because he got a BJ and said he didn't have sex with an intern so he's lying. that doesn't make him a bad president and neither does bowing to the chinese.

i'm not happy with obama. i actually feel a bit swindled that i voted for the guy. but get over it, we had 8 years of idiocy of the highest calibre. there's a reason bush ran just about every company he headed into the ground. regardless of obama or mccain in office right now, whoever was to be voted in is now a scapegoat. bush messed things up so bad the next 2 or 3 presidents are going to look bad because there is too much to handle over 1 or 2 terms as prez.

who cares? he adopted the chinese' custom. i guess he's a weak spineless roach because he bowed. this is absolutely rediculous and sounds like bill o'reily or good ol' opioid himself rush limbaugh would say just to incite even more hate propaganda towards the dems.

Bowing is a sign of respect in many East/South East Asian countries. Very similar to the western handshake. Perhaps you should educate yourself to the culture of other nations. Maybe then you would not deride someone as a weakling for following a custom that is thousands of years old.

I respect your opinion. I like manner I view those who are willing to bow to corrupt religious or political leaders simply because of their position or tradition as weak minded.

However, the President of the United States DOES NOT bow to
anyone.

That's something you just made up.

And Bush 43 kissed an Arab King.

If I were president, I wouldn't bow to China, but it's diplomatic.

In policy terms, Obama has stood up more to China than Bush did.

Remember when a Chinese hotshot pilot killed himself playing chicken with a P3 ? The Hainan Island incident ?

China made Bush look weak. Bowing at a meeting is not even close.

I think the lone gunmen are fictional tv characters.

however if they were real and had not died, they would agree with:

my initial point was that this thread is USELESS. this thread is on the front page but the thread about 60 hospitals closing due to obama's health care plan is not.

it's not hard to be an obama supporter when people who are against him can't even find a real issue to badger him with. Making up BS like he bows like a weakling seems to only make him look better.

my only gripe is that this is a non-issue. real obama criticisms are absolutely fascinating, not some whiny baby's idea of how to deal with foreign political figures

Bowing is a custom in Japan, but not in China. Please do not lump all these different countries under the heading "Asian Countries" and presume that bowing is customary in them all. It is not.

Once again. I will state that I think this is "much to do about nothing".
I am a little embarrassed for Obama though. He feels compelled to keep doing this to excuse his ill advised bow to the Saudi King. He should just stop.

With regard to Bush holding hands or kissing the Saudi King...The King initiated his countries customary acts of friendship. It would have been a huge diplomatic error to have resisted.

Also the acts of friendship were reciprocal.

Oooooohhh !! How dare I. And no, I am not from the midwest. It's none
of your childish business as to where I am from. And my age, that is
none of your business. Although I know for sure you are a very young
person who never did learn to shake hands. You would probably like to
give some sicko wannabe gang banger hand signal.

And how dare I to bring up the financial situation? What the crap does that
have to do with anything? So what if we owe the Chinese billions of
dollars? Everyone on the face of the planet owes the US boatloads of
money. So what? Hardly anything to do with bowing to someone. Try to
concentrate and stick to the subject, or did they not teach you anything
about that in school?

And when I made a reference to Kung Foo, I was alluding to a comment
that SOMEONE ELSE on this thread made. I bothered to read through all
the threads. Maybe you should take a couple of weeks to wade through
it all yourself, as I am sure that would be about the right time frame for
you.

And you don't know what a handbump is? Geeeeeesh!

And when I start to make sense or have come to my senses, I will be
sure to U2U you and ask your permission. You are on IGNORE, so
don't bother to send me any more childish responses until you have
actually taken the time to open your eyes and read what was said.

hey guys, this guy blocked me so he could get his last word in LOLOLOLZZZZ

ALSO HE CALLED ME A GANGBANGER LOLOLOL, I'm young and I think it's okay to show respect to a foreign person in a way other than shaking hands, I'm a gang banger.

if any of you are friends with this guy, let him know he's a whiny old man who got owned as hell. thank you, goodnight.

Bowing is a communication. It is a statement of percieved rank. To bow at all shows either toleration or submissivness. It is who bows the least and who bows the lowest that determines whether it is tolerance or submission. Pretty simple protocol.
