I know I shall regret my comments but as a believer in God the Father, Christ Jesus the man and the Holy Spirit all being ONE as in the Trinity the sacrifice was for you and for me! When physical death entered this world there was no plan of everlasting life,, So God sent his son Jesus to pay the debt of all of mankind's sins..past, present and future....He knew he would be killed and He had the power to stop it but loved us all so much that he died a gruesome agonizing death for all.. When He died, He descended into hell for 3 days and defeated death! He then rose and ascended into heaven..

All He wants is for you to trust Him and believe in Him..For if you do you are promised everlasting life with God the Father. He loved you enough to do this. Your debt has been paid and you cannot change that...you cannot buy your way into heaven nor can you lose your salvation. This is your inheritance.

He shall return one day and judge us all on based on our hearts not on our deeds...

Jesus had full knowledge of Scripture he knew full well what the punishment would be while being questioned before his accusers. Those whom brought forth the claims Jesus had made to them. Aside from having the ability to do something miraculous all he would have had to do was lie. He could have said he was not the Messiah and the religious leaders would have withdrawn any claim of blasphemy most likely satisfied with such a statement. Surely Pontius Pilate would have had an even harder time finding any fault in him.
But Jesus didn't do anything miraculous nor did he lie to save himself. Instead he told the truth knowing what the punishment for blasphemy would be. Innocent of all sin and claims made against him he died a wrongful death willingly to fullfil prophesy and free all mankind from bondage.
I don't understand how his crucifixion could be seen as anything other than a sacrifice.

This (Jesus's) human sacrifice was relevant 2000 years ago. How and in what way does it resonate with today's world of high tech/culture; instant information. Conditions existing 2000 years very different (lack of goods and services, an oppressive government; high taxation).
