They do the same with beer, wine, and liquor in NB as well. I have heard it is even worse than here is some provinces, but some provinces are taxed not as heavily. Last time I brought a 24 pack, it was almost 48 bucks...
Most people around here seem to drink and smoke regularly, they are getting a crapload of tax money from it.

I don't care either way on this issue. If people want more soda, just buy two 16oz cans of soda.
I could never understand how some people can drink those huge cups of soda anyways. The only place I can see drinking that much soda is if I was stranded in a desert.
Having said that, it is taking away a person's right to choose, which could open the door for other products being targeted for removal.

I don't see it happening considering Coca-Cola and Pepsi would probably fight it.

If soda was made with actual sugar it wouldn't be too bad; it's made with high fructose corn syrup. If you don't know the effects that HFCS has on your body I suggest looking them up, you'll avoid it like the plague.

With that being said, this is a good thing; we're consuming something like 1000% the average sugar intake that we would if we were on a natural diet, which explains why so many Americans are obese.

Why would they fight it? Doesn't effect them any, they sell soda in huge gooey sacks either way.

Also soda in the desert is a bad idea, it's a..... I forget the word, but it just makes you more thirsty.

Now these businesses will start to sell 2 for the same price.
Instead of selling a 32 ounce you will just buy 2 16 ounce drinks for the price of the 32 ounce.

I have stop smoking, eating junk food altogether and drinking energy drink and soda and I never felt this good, I also started training, I run every day 1-2 miles heavy rain, snow or suny days, if my friend doesnt want to go at gym, i go alone or train at the kid place in the park near where I live. very good exercise, all you need is a strong will, I lost 20 pounds and im slowly starting to gain them as muscle, I just started recently to be able to finish my training and i can start increasing the weights. I dont want to become mr universe even I know I could, so I do lots of repetition with medium weights, other people at the gym lift heavy weights but do 5-10 repetition and do this 1-2, well I do 4 repetition of 15+ times each, im getting stronger by the week, I wont be big but ill beat any big guy who can punch or whatever for 1-4 minutes then are out of breath... im 185lbs 5'11''

I suggest anyone doing this, soda, diet soda and energy drinks are very bad for health.

drink real juice, water and eat lots of veges, fruits and white meat, fish, sea food (not from pacific)

eating good food and doign exercise is the way to go for healthy life, banning juice wont change people mind, what they need is to be aware of what they are really drinking.

The "ban" doesn't apply to "diet" sodas which taste rather nasty in my opinion. Wait and see New York will face tax revenue loss from this "briliiant plan of action to combat obesity".

Very interesting that it doesn't include diet soda... Do they want everyone getting cancer from coke zero or are they just getting something from coca cola for pushing the sale of it?

That has always been their agenda after all... They seem to do everything to kill us off before retirement and kill our fertility using chemicals in name of "saving" the planet from "overpopulation".

There is a reason why most people get cancer these days...
If they actually cared about our wellbeing then they would not add toxic carcinogens to our vaccines and food and would also investigate why the heck cancer rates are going up.

So many ignorant rednecks against this decision, and people wonder why america is a lost cause.

I dont know why you are trying to defend the sale of soda products... Even by saying thats it has always been here.. Duuh. That doesnt mean its a safe product....

What i am defending is freedom of choice to do what a person wants to. Soda no matter what others think has been around this country for over 100 years.

100 years anyone ever died from it?

Your argument is illogical. Soda isn't being taken away. It's being regulated in size is all. 100 years ago coke came in small bottles less than 16 ounces.

It sounds like idiots want the right to be an idiot, even if it causes harm to more people than their selves in the process...I'm sorry it's too hard for you to comprehend, hence...your "freedom" is being limited.

You are redneck because you are for individual FREEDOM?
Why would you want the government to tell you what to put in your own body?? A mature adult should be able to decide this themselves.
If they were serious they would remove the toxic fast food from school cantines, but instead they change pizza into a vegetable. Is this a government that cares about your health and wellbeing??
Wake the hell up!!

This is basically what they do in socialist countries like where I live. But I guess you want USA to become a nanny state like Norway.

I'm sure if it pass's we will hear that it's not working and people are just buying more smaller portions. To solve this issue they'll raise tax's. Now you can still buy 2-16oz bottles and pay higher tax's on two items rather then 1. Don't forget bloomberg's a buisness man.

we need to do something. I suggets making obese people pay for their health care that is related to obesity out of pocket, and take the insurance companies off the hook

becuase this ban is dumb, you can just by 3 small sodas and drink them all. you could argue it will just lead to more plastic in the landfills

They aren't telling you what to put in your body. They are banning the sale of sugary drinks in large sizes. Huge difference.

Why are people making this into something it's not

Banning large cola is pretty much the same in my world. It should be up to me if i want to consume 1 litres, 0.5l or similar.

Could you imagine if they reduced the speed limits by 30% and said the reason was speed kills. Then went ahead and reduced the size and weight of vehicle you drive untill every one is driving the same car in essence. Then they ban all colours except gray so no one is distracted.

I think this clip from Demolition Man says it all.

what the real motive in this "ban" is, from now on, there will be a surcharge tax on any size larger than the approved size. In the eyes of the ruling elites of new york, this will obviously pay for the increased cost of health care for all those excess calories consumed by these future fatties.

have you been reading the minutes from their strategy sessions? They want to make New York the safest place in the nation---even if it kills everyone, or taxes them to death first.

I saw that NYC mayor on TV a few hours ago. This super-rich jerk said it had to be done because it's an "epidemic"--yeah, he actually used that word for the consumption of too much sweet drink!

Any suggestions as to which country I should move to in the near future?

Well, I'm all for the banning of SUVs since 9 out of 10 American people don't need those gas-guzzling oversized sh!t boxes to travel from their McMansions to Starbucks a fraction of a mile away and back again, transporting no more than 2 people at one time. Come to think of it, most of them Are gray already.

Mrpotatohead, nah, I didn't have to read anything, I just had to live in this world for 32 years. Just the fact that people use the saying "life's not fair" to justify being unfair when they could easily do the right thing is very telling. It taught me that every one is sneaky when it suits them.
