I will happily link to the pic.

I must first note, that the black spot on Jupiter reminds me very much of the black spot on Juipter from 2010 movie. (HAL, do you see that???)

It was said to be a little smaller than Earth - that's looks about to my eye from that pic.

I believe it is supposed to be between 2 and 3 times larger than the earth.

Most people seem to think it is related to whatever crashed into Jupiter recently.

yeah i read something about the impact being bigger than the levy 9 impact and looking at the size of the spot i agree in that it'd have to be a significant event.

I found this earlier today - the spot has tripled in size.

when i saw that the first thing i thought was "project lucifer"
is it too much ATS?
has there been other impacts that have grown in size like that or is that just what happens?

(as you can tell im not too good at the science of space.
)

It's not growing in size, it's smearing horizontally like a bad makeup job. That's what happens to impact scars on jupiter:

Here's a better comparison of the size:
Better resolution image from the 19th by Anthony:

About the same resolution, July 24th by Anthony:

Notice, it hasn't widened, it's just smeared in latitude by the sheering forces of Jupiter's winds, but like the storms on Jupiter, it's pretty restrained to the cloud belt it landed on.

Great picture. I think my telescope is probably too small to see this myself, but it's great to have other amateur astronomers out there with equipment capable of taking these type of photographs.

Thanks!
