yeah i read something about the impact being bigger than the levy 9 impact and looking at the size of the spot i agree in that it'd have to be a
significant event.

has there been other impacts that have grown in size like that or is that just what happens?
(as you can tell im not too good at the science of space. )
It's not growing in size, it's smearing horizontally like a bad makeup job. That's what happens to impact scars on jupiter: www.cosmiclight.com...

Notice, it hasn't widened, it's just smeared in latitude by the sheering forces of Jupiter's winds, but like the storms on Jupiter, it's pretty
restrained to the cloud belt it landed on.
Great picture. I think my telescope is probably too small to see this myself, but it's great to have other amateur astronomers out there with
equipment capable of taking these type of photographs.
