Georgia*Russia*Poland Missile Defense Shield ATS Thread!

Due to the interrelated, swiftly evolving and large collection of threads in regard to the:

Russian & Georgian War (to include the Central Asian Caucus if events spread)

The Missile Defence Shield Poland & Europe (Pre and post ratification of the treaty)

And also in response to this thread;
I suggest a new forum for the Russia-Georgia conflict


In addition it is also my belief, that this situation marks the most important change in world affairs post 9/11.

The need therefore, for the ability to research and understand these events in a balanced and in the easiest way possible. Truly many of us could potentially follow in the footsteps of our Fathers and Grandfathers, Mothers and Grandmothers, in the potential for Drafting and war effort work, if this does escalate to a World War.

Before any of us are led quickly down any such path, It is only by that person being sure of having the correct information, and understanding the different sides of the situation, that they can make informed decisions on their stance, and respond in relation to any obligations or demands made upon them in an honest way.

I hope this will help those at ATS and the readers, be able to home in on the truth of the big picture in these events, and hopefully keep up the good work of ATS in denying ignorance and searching for the truth.

Thanks! Although I really think that most of the posts could be consolidated into one general Russia/Georgia conspiracy post. All of these assorted posts are making my head spin and it's difficult to know which ones are the most active or offer the most insight.

Excellent gathering of threads there elf. I'd hate to start another one since there is glut of them around here at the moment. I expect, despite the current lull, that there will be a continued stream of new information and developments coming.

The thread I was thinking about starting would be a thread about possible outcomes of the conflict on a geo-political level. Reaction of the Eastern European former Warsaw nations, g-8 once again being g-7, decisions to appease or opose, and other possible short medium and long term consequences of this conflict. I know that alot of that discussion is going on in other threads but it's hard to keep that discussion going with the constant steam of updates, cheerleading/jeerleading, breaking news, updates, and reactions.

Once again great job on colating all the threads into a useable megathread.

However as alerted by Plucky Here in the Thread Russia Georgia Situation news & Updates things appear to be spicing up again:

STOPOL, Ukraine -- Russian Black Sea fleet ships based in the Ukrainian port of Sevastopol are preparing for large-scale naval exercises, RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service reports. Russian officials have notified Ukraine that 22 of its Black Sea Fleet vessels will leave Sevastopol for military maneuvers. This notification has been issued every day since the beginning of last week, but the ships' departure has been delayed for unknown reasons. Among the ships taking part in the exercises are three large ships able to carry navy commandos. Three similar-sized ships are currently on patrol near the Georgian coast

Russia, which has been at loggerheads with Georgia since a fighting a brief war in August, has repeatedly criticized any cooperation between NATO and the pro-Western Georgian government in Tbilisi.

One day before the NATO exercises are started in Georgia,

A military coup has been uncovered apparently co-ordinated by the Russians and aimed at Destabilising the region during the NATO exercises, another "Exercise" that turns real?

Georgia has uncovered an attempted military coup, the country's defence minister says.

The interior ministry told the BBC that the plotters wanted to destabilise Georgia and assassinate President Mikhail Saakashvili.

A spokesman said there had been one arrest, but that the leader of the plot - a former chief of special forces - was still at large.

It was aimed at disrupting the Nato military exercises and an attempt at a military coup," Defence Minister Sikharulidze told Georgian TV.

An interior ministry spokesman said the rebellion appeared to be "co-ordinated with Russia".
