Police kill more whites than blacks, but minority deaths generate more outrage

Her comments reflect a widespread view that blacks are routinely targeted by law enforcement while whites shot by police are a rarity. Outrage has surged in recent weeks over the high-profile deaths of black men at the hands of police, notably 50-year-old Walter Scott of South Carolina, who was shot in the back and killed April 4 as he tried to run away from an officer after a traffic stop.

Meanwhile, the deaths of whites at the hands of law enforcement typically receive less attention, even when the case is shrouded in controversy. For example, Gilbert Collar, an 18-year-old white student at the University of South Alabama, was shot and killed while naked, unarmed and under the influence of drugs by a black police officer.

The officer, Trevis Austin, was cleared of wrongdoing in 2013 by a Mobile County grand jury in a case that received little media coverage outside Alabama. Mr. Collar’s parents filed a federal lawsuit last year against the officer.

As researchers are quick to point out, FBI data on police shootings by race is notoriously incomplete, which may explain why Peter Moskos, assistant professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York, decided to use figures from the website Killed by Police.

Based on that data, Mr. Moskos reported that roughly 49 percent of those killed by officers from May 2013 to April 2015 were white, while 30 percent were black. He also found that 19 percent were Hispanic and 2 percent were Asian and other races.

His results, posted last week on his blog Cop in the Hood, arrived with several caveats, notably that 25 percent of the website’s data, which is drawn largely from news reports, failed to show the race of the person killed.

There was a giant mob of high schoolers attacking police. Destroying civilian cars as well.

But tbh, the reason these riots are occurring aren't because of the whole problem. It's something within human nature to cause chaos in times of trouble/tense situations. It's also a lot of people taking advantage of the situation.

The whole high schooler thjng though is just kids being kids. When in the rebellious age, they always challenge the system by bringing chaos. In my high school when there was a moment where people could take advantage (during fire drills or such), they'd do all sortsof things, even lighting trash cans on fire.

After reading that I can only Agree that the Author who got his research from the website killedbypolice.net... which states this on its opening page

Inclusion implies neither wrongdoing nor justification on the part of the person killed or the officer involved. The post merely documents the occurrence of a death.

and then he applies some of his own estimates based on his own reasoning with a little bit of playing with numbers to account for all the ones where race is not listed. In any case, this mans speculation based on estimates does not paint a clear picture of who is killed for what reason more often. He does not have all the information to make an accurate conclusion based on what I was able to read before I got tired of the add ons, and shockwave player messin up the browser.

I would estimate off his numbers more white people are killed when they commit actual crime than for being white on a weekday, much like this poor uncharged bastard Freddy had to endure.

In fact, IMO this is even more of a reason to defend guns, because he went through much more severe trauma and suffering before succumbing to his wounds, whereas if he had been shot it likely would of have been a one or two punch before his life ceased to exist in a few moments. They only let 12 year old children bleed out from their gunshot wounds. I am still waiting to see that riot come to .

If the information is not available then why is it accepted when the claims of more blacks are killed by police?

A black officer shot and killed an unarmed white teenager in Colorado - no riots, no attacks, etc.

why?

The part you quoted from the article lists the incident without denoting if the shooting was justified or not. Trying to pick apart numbers by arguing his numbers are based on speculation, and doing so by speculating yourself, doesn't work.

Well I guess we shall see when they deploy tomorrow/tonight. I agree they will keep calm and peaceable till they are truly threatened, but if they are watch out cause that dog has sharp teeth ya know.

Guessing tonight will be much of the same.....possibly worse. Daytime allows the people to have time to plot....and my guess is that is just what they are doing....

Yeah....I think what looting and rioting do are really just turn people away. Nobody wants that in their town and it just pushes the thought of the people doing this being thugs that much deeper....it really isn't the way to create a change, but it is a way to make a quick news story.

Face it folks, racial, cultural, and authoritative divides have been ongoing all throughout human history and will always be there. This is the way it is and will always be there. It's hopeless, although some people try to look at things with lollipops and rainbows.

Yep...I agree. People can preach love and peace all they want, but when it comes down to it, war is always the end result.

When riots or the threat of riots come to Any town USA the folks will be conditioned to not only accept military on the streets, they'll be demanding it.

TPB must be high fiving about now on how well this is working out so far.

Yep, exactly. The point was proven last night. I saw a segment on CNN where a member of the community was demanding police protection, in a community who at the time were protesting the police through rioting.

Then our national leader needs to step up to the plate, go to Baltimore and speak there. Then he needs to get on television and give a state of the union address and directly speak to the American populace and discourage violent protests. Then he needs to step down, because he was voted by that majority voter base that he provoked them into race baiting.

Then our government needs to allow us the redress of government for our grievances against it. Then WE THE PEOPLE need to collectively redress the government, without violence.

But you can't get many people to do that because they are comfortable thinking the government take care of them.

As long as people think the government is taking care of them, why then want freedom? The Hungarians had no problem with that as long as the government gave them jobs, they didn't mind the loss of freedom. As long as people are not starving, they don't mind not being able to speak. So this government has found out that people prefer being taken care of, what can the government do if it offers mandatory education but people still don't want to be educated?

It is the failure of We the People, we allowed our government to transform into what it is now. From the mayor level to the White House, the people elect those who promise the most but fail to deliver and yet keep on electing them.

We the People made this a socialist country, because We the People wanted to be taken care of by the government, the government merely took advantage of it.

Are you talking about the ratio of black on white crime versus the white on black crime reported by the media?

Ratio or not , it demonstrate that cop violence is not isolated to only one race.
