The only way to end the crisis is to end the sanctions or at least restrict them to more common sense grounds.

Are you kidding?

That would simply tell him that his little fit gets results!

That would be like a kid pouting that he wants a cookie...and then you GIVE it to him!

What is he going to do the next time he wants a cookie?

No, I think this will end in the usual way....

Behind closed doors, China and the US sit down and have a little talk with him, give him a few unpublicized concessions, while China assures him the sanctions are in name only and won't really prevent anything coming out of China...so instead of giving him a cookie, we're giving him some crumbs to tide him over till supper time, and maybe a sippy cup....

I think we're a long way off something happening there. As for the British, their traditional enemy has always been the French so they might do a pre-emptive strike against the French who stopped us from joining the Euro. Or it could be the other way round as the French have never accepted the fact that the British saved them from the Germans during WWII.

Wow, your presence here on ATS is highly valuable to the masses!

Yes. It's very sad the masses don't come here. We'd have a different world if they did. But of course, I'm just a voice in the wilderness.

The young and unpredictable leader of NK has been in power for about 16 months. No one really knows where his mind is going with this or how far he intends to go. Does he know the consequence's or does he care?

Considering this may be nothing more than a live video game to him is frightening!

I have a irrelevant question that would be interesting to know the answer tho, how long does a EMP last?
Like if US wanna throw one at NK as a pre emptive strike ?

Thanks.

when do you think the first mcDonalds is opening in NK?

An EMP is instantaneous, unless it is being continually generated...

And no, doing so would be considered an attack, and an act of war, and give us absolutely no international political leg to stand on.... Also, an EMP is a very localized attack (and any target worth while, is likely to be EMP shielded). Your microwave, oven, fridge, or dishwasher could protect against it. (well, at least a device inside any of those).

Keep in mind, an EMP is also a side effect of a nuclear explosion...

A sobering thought...that really dumps a bucket of water on my "Joe Cool" attitude....thanks for that!

Depends on if he backs down or not... Seriously though, I can't see them opening one where the government can just walk in and sieze it "for the people" anytime real soon.

A possibility...nothing kicks an economy into gear like a good war...though because of China's involvement, I would say not...we're too in bed together to hog the sheets...

Did the iraq war stimulate our economy? Open war would stimulate only the Puppet Masters pulling the strings. But then again I could be totally wrong.

It did to an extent...yeah. It provided more jobs in the defense industry, recalled layoffs, etc., and intense recruitment by security agencies. It then had trickle down effects in related industries.

Not like a big war, but stimulate? Sure, some. At the same time though, it also affected oil prices and stock prices, so go figure...

Hi Gazrock, I can see that you very closely are observing and monitoring this thread, and doing so for the sake of removing redundancy on Ats.. since I have you here, I would like to ask a couple of questions and I do believe you will be able to fully answer; Could you tell me, what some of these expressions on these posts and threads mean?

For example: IMO, S&K, we always have all of these little abbreviated expressions that I have never been able to decipher, and I was wondering if you maybe had a list of them with their definitions.. so long as that's not asking too much, and if you have the time! Otherwise you can show me where to go to find out this kind of stuff..

Thanks,
Cheers

They have a freshman thread you could easily find these answers. IMO (In my opinion) S&F )Star and Flag) same as SnF just no & sign. You can also google for acronyms ^_^

Cheers~ hope that helped.

For example: IMO, S&K

People are using IM'ese (short-hand), which they really shouldn't...

IMO = In My Opinion

SK = South Korea (which is fine, because it is an official abbreviation
NK = North Korea (same as above)

Sometimes you'll see S&F = Starred and Flagged....not sure where you saw S&K

I'm really more participating as a member, than modding this thread.
If any kind of mod discipline is needed, I'll ask another mod in, to be impartial. I don't like modding in a thread I'm really involved in (kind of a house rule for us mods)....just to be sure such things are impartial.

On that note, have a good night folks, hopefully WWIII doesn't start and I can pick this up tomorrow, hehe....

So it's safe to say that a BIG war would stimulate the economy? I understand the theory but after a long drawn out Iraq war the only stimulation I saw was not going into civillians pockets. Now is it safe to presume that the current war on Terror is not a big war and a World War would boom the ecomony (stimulate)? It might sound like an arbitrary question but I'm having a hard time understanding big and little wars and the stimulation it's supposed to have on the economy. At least I haven't seen any stimulation except in the form of Bailouts to banks and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (not related to Bernie Mac... He's not coming back
)

Ok, I'll look in the freshman thread for the abbreviation info, and thank you Gazrock for helping out a bit with those definitions: we're just a baby here on Ats. In the meantime, I found another thread that is associating events at Norad Offices with North Korea! How do you like that; I don't know how to link the thread itself, but here is the article concerning suspicious packages that were suddenly found at Norad (and that story was posted about an hour ago.. Happy reading! And here you go:

NORAD evacuated for 4.5 hours after packages arouse suspicions;

China is communist in name only. The fact they allow or even encourage american business should be all the proof one needs to see this. What does china have to gain by not allowing the two koreas to unite? China and USA are bed buddies.

I just find the response (or lack of) to these threats to be quite insightful.

Can you imagine if anyone else started making threats like this? What if Russia decided to say that they were going to launch nuclear missiles at the USA? Or China? Or Pakistan?

Its fair enough to treat North Korea as some kind of joke state - a little yappy dog barking at you as you walk past a garden gate. But I just hope this image doesn't lead to over-confidence.

Judging by all the wars of the previous decade the only thing it stimulates is growth of the military industrial complex while contracting the economy in other sectors. I would say overall war is bad for the economy and the biggest factor of all is that the DEBT will skyrocket some more. Pretty soon the debt ceiling will be too much for the over-hyped petro-dollar and the dollar WILL COLLAPSE!

The best way to grow the economy is to limit automation and raise tariffs. But if profit comes before jobs this will never happen. This is why I am a national socialist fan.
