i believe this as well. i also say something to the effect of, that the picture of jesus that we all accept, is actually a bisexual baron that was related to someone of importance, and not even jesus at all. i need to find the source. having a difficult time with it.

Jesus was not white, and was hated, humiliated and finally murdered.

He is not the white man's god, few white men know him.

If you have a belief in God, then he is your God, no-one else's.

In Matthew, 25, Jesus explains how he will one day divide the world. The judgement he promises is not based on who believes what, it is simply based on who took care of the needy.

We share a father, called by various names and worshipped in various ways all around the world. However he doesn't care about being worshipped or even believed in. All he cares about is that we are kind to each other.

Right I know what you are speaking of, There is a picture floating around someone did that depicts what Jesus may actually have looked like and it isnt the Blond Hair, Blue eye guy we are familar with.... He is rather unattractive and had an unkept.

The Abolitionist movement began in the churches.

The first Abolitionists were the Quakers.

Baptists and Methodists soon followed the Quakers on their crusade to end slavery.

actually the one i was referring to, showed him as present day as we know it, and it is actually where we got this concept for him today.

Even now thousands of people starving in Africa find that their only relief comes from Christian Missionaries and other “faith-based” charities at the expense of being preached to and converted. Food for minds as it were. Under threat of starvation and lack of medication they flock to these charitable organizations for relief and come out with medicine, sometimes clothing, food in their bellies, and a bible in their hands. Some may see nothing wrong with this. If faith-based charities are the only ones stepping up to help these people why shouldn't they be able to push their products at the same time? The problem is that it is exploitation. They are exploiting the desperation of starving and sick men, women, and children in order to spread their faith and gain more converts.

I haven't read all the "words of Wrath" yet, but this did strike me. This 'Faith-based' distribution favored by so many in the US has always struck me as similar to what's known as 'militarized' aid.

Example: "We, the superior force, have cut off all your supply lines. You the starving and thirsty, will concede to our demands, hand over to us the people we want. Then, and only then, will we allow the UN and Red Cross relief trucks. By the way, if you refuse, we the powerful, who control the media, will make plain to the world that you starve because of your obstinacy."

Militarizing aid is illegal and condemned internationally for a good reason, and yet, it goes on daily. It should stand as an indictment against the country that does it the most. How sad it is, I don't even have to name that country!

Faith based distribution of necessities really is on a par with the example above. Back in the old days, my church belong to a group of local churches that ran a soup kitchen. We had a rotating schedule. On our shift, the ladies would cook up dishes good enough for potlucks. I was one of the elders, so I got to cook up a sermon, to be delivered before the eating was to happen. Being a compassionate fellow, I made it short. It really was a nice sermon. Halfway through, I noticed there really was no audience interest. So I just said, "All right, let's eat."

Yours and the authors assumption is that the religion of slave owners was a direct cause of their actions. I would say this is faulty reasoning. Further, the Christian God overwhlemingly demands equality for all people, yet because some where culturally Christian and slave owner, this means the Christian God is some how to be shunned? As someone already stated, Christianity was introduced, and prospered in Africa, well before it even made it to Europe. Africa was home to the vast majority of Christians (beings that Rome was murdering them in Europe/Greece) prior to being killed off by the Muslims. If you want to learn something new, look at the Christian population of Africa, prior to the creation of Islam, and then leading up to the start of the crusades.

My point is that african americans who still embrace this Christian god have no reason too; we are not in shackels anymore

Someone else in this thread actually tried to blame the problems within the African American community on the church. I would have to agree, but not on the same grounds. The problem is with most of the churches here in America and the idol worshipping, Bible ignorant that fill their seats. They preach their own human/world centered message that focuses on getting rich, being successful, being happy etc. This has nothing to do with the gospel message, and unfortunately, these false gospel subscribers will be in hell right next to their neighbors that slept in on Sunday mornings. This is why persons such as yourself have the audacity to make such outlandish claims. You are attacking a strawman that doesn't exist.
To be a Christian you must repent of your wickedness, and put all your trust in Jesus Christ for Him paying the price for your sins, and live a life that shows you are appreciative for His sacrifice. He died for the world not just whites (which makes this thread foolish in and of itself because He was Jewish, not white???) Now here is your dilema, once one becomes a Christian, you develop a relationship with Christ. So did you ever have a relationship with Him? If so, you are choosing to turn your back on Him, because you refuse to submit to His authority. And if you did not, you were NEVER a Christian. I will lean towards the latter, because it is impossible for someone to learn about the depth of God's love, goodnes, and mercy and reject it. I hope whatever it is your doing is worth it, that hell for eternity means nothing...

I have often wondered at this topic not only in the context of Africans taking up the religion of their oppressors, but also the indigenous populations of the Americas as well.

After much thought on the topic though, I believe this is a moot complaint.

It is my belief that many different cultures with their own brand of religion has conquered many a civilization and forced not only religion, but other aspects of their culture on to the losers. Africans are no different. Slavery and cultural amalgamation are the side-effects of "Human progress", so I do not suffer whiners.

Most Christians today esp. those in the thug culture,(no matter what color they are) Are C.I.N.O.(Christians in name only) and profess to love Jesus but do everything in their lives that spits in his face. Most Christians are akin to a pornstar who wears a crucifix during her scene.

If we were truly a Christian nation like so many fools think we are, the majority of us would take arms against those who are committing evil in this world. We are not, nor have we ever been, a Christian nation. Most of our ideas that protect freedom are born from the ideas of natural law, which the church saw as creating a culture that would not be humble enough to submit to a civil rule.

Interesting point I am black british and have a sizeable US family.

I think that the point that the article relates is the deep religous conservatism in the black American psyche. This conservatism believes that Xtianity is the only way. There is also a insularity that means that non of these conservative thinkers can consider anything outside of a very narrow relgious experience.

It is no biggie unless there is personal attacks by other family members. I once had a whole Xmas ruined by daring to disagree with their xtian viewpoints but that is history.

I cannot help that a thug that goes to church once a year holds out a figleaf of hope to the Xtian community that one day they may "follow the Lord".

It is not just atheists that suffer in our community. I am amazed at other areas where narrow-minded exists why must we all be the same??

We don't need big brother we police our own people far too much.
