So…..what, you don’t believe in a world peace ever happening, or better yet, you don’t want it to happen….?

......My point with all this...is why Americans feel the need to own shotgun, or semi-automatics, if the main reason for the possessing them is to defend yourselves from people breaking into you home, or the government becoming to over powering...
[edit on 31-1-2008 by andre18]

That is exactly why I own a simi auto assault rifle and a shotgun. To protect myself and my family from the crazies of the world. I gurantee you that you would think it is mighty handy if you wake up in the middle of the night to find an armed intruder in your house with the intent to robb, murder or rape.

My M4-A2 is my personal Brinks home security system! Get the word out, and people don't come-a-knocking at night.

Gun loving Americans and all…..I don’t think I need to go over the figures of gun related deaths in America…..but like…..what’s going on…..

What is it with people and wanting guns…?

Is it to defend your home….?

To defend yourselves….?

So..…is there some kind of scare in America where everyone’s in a panic…right outside your door is the enemy..? That everyone is out to get you…I mean…. this is ridiculous…..
or it just the overwhelming desire to have one, to own one…..?
Can I get some help here…………………………

Fantastic.. another "America Sucks" "but look how civil I am by posting this question" thread ...

I try to be nice, I really do.. but are you 5 years old or just another jerk who hates America and needs to bitch and moan? I only give you two choices because the "questions" you ponder are rather ignorant, and you certainly put America on display.

Assuming for ther moment that your topic is genuine....
I am not a gun owner, nor do I ever want one, but your topic just annoys the crap out me.. sort of like when someone says "can't we all just get along"

Did you just open your eyes and say..
"hmmm, Guns, what are they good for.. Absolutely nothing.. Say it again!"

Come on..

1. A Spear, a knife, an arrow, are also all designed for one specific purpose.. to kill.

Why don't you include those in your rant?
Do you have a thing for guns? Is it just the quickness or force of the kill?
If people shot arrows at each other and bled out, would arrows then be ok?

I suspect not, so your post should be on violence and not specific to guns.. no?

2. Humans are ANIMALS and as such we are a danger to ourselves.

We are territorial and materialistic and most of all emotional.
Try not to pretend that you are above the rest and wouldn’t ever consider violence, because when it comes right down to it..
you and another guy in a room.. one gun, one way out, one lives or dies..
You’d fight for the gun. If you say otherwise, you’re a liar, it’s human nature.

3. Humans need to eat and long before there were organic food stores in Berkeley, humans had to exist on meat.

Guns are just an extension of the arrow which is an extension of the spear.. are you also pissed off about those? Weapons have been used to provide food for thousands of years. Guns have just made it easier and quicker.

4. Defense.

Playing more to number 1 above, humans are not all civil.
In fact most I would say are pretty damn barbaric. Defense is a valid reason for a gun.
Go try living in Compton for a spell and see if you don’t feel the need to own a gun.

"Or is this something to do with 9/11……"
This is where I question your age or maturity.
Is this a serious question?
Do you honestly think gun ownership is tied in any part to 9/11?

****************************************************
And just for the record, America isn't the only nation with guns.
No gun deaths in Austrailia.. or just not as many?
If there is even ONE, bringing up "America" makes you a hypocrite.
****************************************************

My advice is to get educated and realize that the media spoon feeds you violence and it makes it look like everyone in America has a gun and shoots it off at random people every day.

Personally, I have never held a gun, never seen a real gun, never heard a live gunshot, never seen someone get shot, never seen a gunshot wound. I don't even know anoyone who owns a gun. Hell, I don't even know any cops personally.

And I live in an American City with a population over 1 million.. go figure

So you don't think a stungun could do the job just as well as

The job of stopping somebody who shouldn't be in my home?

Nope.

Nothing stops a person better than dead.

As long as one man believes he has a right to dictate to another man through law what he can Do, Own, Say, or Believe. when that individual isn't violating another mans rights, No there will never be peace.

There will be peace when people understand what a person does, is that persons business, what someone owns is that persons business, What someone says is merely words, what that person believes is there business, none of these things stop another person from living there life free

the only limitations on a free man is when he uses those freedoms to intentionally violate the freedoms of another...

So essentially there will be peace when people stop trying to force there personal, moral opinions, and beliefs on others through law.

when the actions forced upon another didn't violate anyones rights or stop them from being free.

have fun with that.

Speaking as a former Marine, NO!

My M4-A2 and I are acurate up to 500 yards. Try to stun someone from that distance.

But to really answer the question, Would you yourself like to be in a situation that an unknown armed intruder in your house at night has a Glock or Smith & Wesson that can reach out an touch you from any distance in your house while you have to get within arms length to stun them?

You are protecting yourself and your family, why whould you want to give an intruder the upper hand. You DON'T know what they are armed with. You have to be prepared.

My basic reason for the opinion I have for guns, is because simply they kill people…..yes, so do spears and such, but guns are the dominant weapon in our society and in which is causing deaths and apparently preventing them…..so there’s a distrust I have with guns because of this issue, though it’s not so much as the guns fault but rather the people’s fault for the way they use them……but then as I keep repeating, why don’t more Americans have a stungun in their homes as they do shotguns and such….

If you guys can convince me that somehow shotguns, handguns etc are more beneficial then stunguns….I might accept guns are ok…..but until then…I’m going to by such principles as……a youth can simply ask a friend who’s a young adult to buy the gun for them and then go on a killing spree…..and pepper spray and stunguns can do a better job at protecting yourself then rifles and shotguns can

A person can be conditioned to be resistant to pepper spray if it is inhaled enough.

I remember in bootcamp seeing Drill Instructors standing in the gas room with no masks on laughing as all of us recruits were coffing, puking and all else that comes with CS gas.

Pepper spray is the same way. It depends on how used to it your body/system is.

Let me respond with the stupid thing Andre will no doubt respond:

Can't a criminal just as easily condition himself to being shot?

ok my 2 cents

IMO this op has been very negative against anybody that posts a pro gun reply and neutral towards anybody that posts an anti-gun reply
He is also a teenager so he is naturally rebellious at this age.....we know its just the hormones and you cant help it ..... how do i know well i used to be a teenager 22 years ago and believe me i drove everybody around me halfway up a wall with my attitude as im sure that 95% of teenagers around the world do the same. its a well known fact amongst us adults.....
and as a result he thinks hes the "know all and end all" on the subject and no matter what we type hes going to have something negative to say to the pro- gun people in this tread. this guy is probably laughing his head off fully knowing hes annoying and to him its a lot of fun.... but he cant help it hes only a teenager......

Ok ive been following this thread since the beginning and to surprise of the op as of 31/ 1/ 2008 i can assure you guns are still LEGAL here in Australia
and pistols too! and guess what another fact that the op doesn't know
about .....our new prime minister Mr rudd is a member of the sporting shooters association of Australia ( Australian NRA ) and is a pistol shooter and an avid gun collector so i don't see guns getting banned anytime soon.....

This is just my opinion on guns.....I've slowly understood why people who own guns appreciate them so much, I'm not trying to on purpose be negative, but if I read something I don't agree with....I'll obviously respond to it....

in this day and age you cant simply ask your friend to go into a gun shop and buy you a pistol ....what you think its that easy.....lol.....to get a rifle here in ssydney you first have to go to the gun shop and select a gun, provided you aalready have a licence, you will need a permit to purchase you fill this out at the shop in front of the shop staff then this form goes to the firearms registry there they decide if your reason to purchase is ok then you have a 9 week cooling of period and after that then and only then can you buy the gun....if you still think its easy to go buy a gun think twice

oh possession of pepper spray, stun guns, tear gas, bullet proof jackets, gas masks and bomb shelters in Australia are highly illegal and as such carry a prison sentence!

even to own a paint ball gun here in Australia you need a firearms licence and yes it need to be registered and theres even a cooling off period for it just in case you wish to start a war with a paint gun.....geez

That still doesn't stop someone of 17 getting a 21 year old mate to go through all that, wait the 9 weeks, etc then finaly buy the gun, givie it to the 17 year old and then a school shooting happens....

Since nothing stops a 17 year old from getting in their parents car and running down people in the streets, I guess we should ban cars too.

You haven't offered one reason why you even think your stance is the correct point-of-view other than, "Guns can kill. Death is bad. Guns must be bad." Which is the typical sad media and education induced world-view associated with a well-socialised person (ie. a state-slave.)
