I've always thought people on the "right" were call that way because they always think they are "right". That and people on the right think their own opinions are "facts" while people with opinions they do not agree with are lying.

Interesting observations and I have long thought the same thing, that the NAZI's were the Leftists of their day. As "National Socialists" they were not quite as far left of center as the Marxist Communists, but still on the left of center of the political spectrum.

But today, in the modern era, the truth of the matter isn't important, it is what the MSM tells us that is to inform us of the "operative truth". So when CNN commentators constantly refer to their concern about alt-right Neonazi Nationalist terrorists, they are of course absolutely correct.

When he was in south Africa and younger his politics and rhetoric for the time would sound extremely racist in today's world. He changed his tone quite a bit tho as he got older.

The left/right stuff has gotten so twisted. Most Americans are deeply on the left on this axis, republicans use charity and Democrats use taxes. BUT we are now using left/right to talk about the y axis... libertarian/authoritarian. I don't think that is an accident either. People like to help each other and they don't like authority. It's to today's Democrats advantage to combine them...evil conservatives don't want to help people. Conservatives are dumb to play along. They should accept the left badge with pride and show how they donate more time, money, and blood than their counterparts donating only lip service and ineffectual taxes.

The Nazis leaned towards socialism on the economy, but they leaned far right on social matters.

Maybe I'm wrong but my whole life I was under the impression that "right-wing" was individuals who valued small government, low taxes, balanced budgets, strong families and individual liberties (right to bear arms, freedom of speech..etc). Hitler was the opposite of all these things.

Hitler made a HUGE government
Hitler had a very imbalanced budget and huge deficit spending
Hitler took away peoples guns
Hitler was against free speech (burned books)
Hitler pushed the state to raise your kids (Hitler youth) and for them to spy on their parents, thus destroying families.

Did I wake up in Bazzaro world? Who in their right mind (no pun intended) would ever think that Hitler was even close to be considered "right-wing"?
