What people who write posts like this don't seem to get is that entitlement and dismissiveness and selfishness are not unique traits to wealthy folks, neither is greed come to think of it.

You are right, the problem is that when a person who has billions feels entitled, they have much more power to get what they want than does the bottom 80% of the nation, those who don't agree or understand this are either actively being argumentative or are kind of shilling for the elite (possibly in hopes they will be them one day or be protected by them).

well, I think this extends out past that of rich culture to just pure modern culture. like I said above, your impacts on those who you do business with and for has been totally decoupled from any moral implications as everyone has bought into the, "whatever it takes to be successful in business" attitude that the likes of Soros have taken on.

it's a bigger issue than just rich or poor or whatever

I've been debating on making a thread on this topic but the real problem is we have no common mythology that brings us together and bonds us on a societal level anymore, we have been fractured into dozens of societies existing within one another and because we lack that common bond we can no longer empathize with those on the other side of the aisle

So you want to punish successful people.

Does nobody read the edits. That is the second time this week I triggered someone because they did not read the edit I made so they did not realize I was making a joke.

My post should read with the edit....

Rich people are the best people on the planet bar none.

edit on 23-7-2018 by karmicecstasy because: I changed my mind. Screw those stuck up rich people....my shill fee did not get paid on time

The edit was the whole point of the post. I had the edit up within seconds of posting. Now I know how Roseanne felt.

let me guess... you think the OP is making an argument for socialism??

because you're not actually responding to what was said in the OP you are trying to infer an argument and responding to what you think was being inferred rather than actually responding to what was said?

No, not at all. I was talking about the valet drivers I worked with.

So it was all anecdotal hearsay?

Just out of curiosity, is a parking valet some sort of high paying career and I missed it? Or is it a part time/second job?

I watched them work myself.
Their tips were pooled as they all washed/cleaned the cars when parking. Wage was known. They would have to run 1/4 mile in 90-110 degree heat (March to Oct) to get the car and have it ready for the member, Id say 1/2 the time they could use the golf carts to shuttle to the car, but often there weren't enough. I got to see the tips and averages b/c I was IT manager with access to payrol and had to add/remove staff, make changes, etc.

It was considered a career for some. They drove VERY expensive cars and they have to be extremely trustworthy and reliable b/c damaging them would cost a lot of money, stealing things from inside would be a BIG problem.

So if you took you car to be washed, vacuumed, windows cleaned, interior cleaned, it woudl have cost a minimum of $70 in North country SD. This was provided by the club (maybe not for all members but for many high profile ones). This was done while they ate or played golf/tennis/ worked out/etc. So tipping a guy who worked in 100+ degree heat $10-20 seems pretty cheap when the same service would have cost min of $70 when you have to sit and wait and hope the car isnt' scratched or something stolen.

Most guys were 18-30 who did this, some full time , some part time - IDK how many had other jobs.

Valeting in North County SD is one of the best paying jobs if you don't have a degree and you are willing to work the hours. Many hotels and restraurants where my friends worked could clear $30-80/hour depending on the night and the clientele. Its a very wealthy area and some people tip well, while others don't and your lucky to get a couple bucks (while they drive a $150,000-220,000 AMG SL 55/65)

So being a car attendant/washer is a career? No wonder why you are so confused about everything.

Oh, and a $10-20 tip on a $70 bill is 15-30%, what type of percent tip are these people expecting?

You are a the people I'm talking about. I'm talking about paying fairly for a service provided. I'm not talking about what is designated a career and you seem to think that if something is classified as a career then people don't deserve to make adequate compensation for their work. Your avatar kind of speaks for your attitude.

I always had to laugh when the repo man showed up to out valet parking and rolled up the Bently, Maseratti, etc that the owner was trying to hide behind the gated community when they hadn't made a payment in over a year, and they were demanding their car be cleaned every day they came (even though it was a cuortesy service, not mandatory).

Keep up that line of thinking buddy boy. Your type think you are holier than thou and I would put my skills against yours any day you like. Where do you live? Maybe we can compare out skill sets and see just how much of an "expert" you are at everything.

So I'll ask you again since you didn't answer the first time, what percent tip is 'fair'?

I made 1500 a week as a barback when I was 18(and or 19-20 I forget). Barback isn't really a career but that is pretty good money for working 32 hours a week. I'm sure some would consider that a career.

There are a lot of people on the low end of the pay scale that suck too, so I guess we should say that people suck in all pay ranges.
