Then they would live like the people off the system they created.

What does this mean? Well, they would have food stamps and general assistance. They would have to fill out the same form every week that people on Unemployment have to fill out...getting their pay denied or delayed for a month because payroll is "unclear" on what you wrote. Then get their benefits cut off without notice. They should have to wait 2 hours on hold when they call in to inquire.

Not that they'd ever have the balls to do it, but if they did, I bet everything would be fixed within a year. The moment those fat-asses in congress have to buy generic and let the cleaning lady go would be the moment real change happens.

Government will change, it will get worse. All in the name of making things better.

Just look at the Obamacare mess, it was done in the name of making things better, but it hasn't.

When the people in power think Cuba and Venezuela leaders are wonderful people worthy of adulation as our left/progressives/Democrats think they are.

Then you end up with a country like Cuba and Venezuela.

When Che Guevera is a worshiped figure among those in power you get a Che like country, where the goal is to kill and destroy opposition, to maintain a "peaceful" country.

Take a hard look at Cuba and Venezuela and China where Obama said he wished he could be a dictator like those in power in China. Take a look at human rights violations in those countries, that make our "police problem" look like two Disney fairies having a tiff compared to the political torture and imprisonment over having ideas the leadership doesn't like.

Take a look at the People's Republic that is totally run by the government for the good of the people,
a hard line socialist country to the core is what they claim
you find starvation
you find routine murder of people whose ideas are different than the allowed ideas
you find an economy in shambles
you find leaders living like Louis the 14th while claiming to only have the people at heart
you find North Korea

Until people wake up and see that everyone who is fleeing oppression are fleeing countries that
are socialist and communist
and no one is fleeing countries
where capitalism and freedom are core values, people are flocking to those countries
what does that tell you?

If the people in power in the US have their way
we will end up like China
where people don't matter, the individual is nailed down to meet the needs of the whole
where the air in industrialized areas is so bad people can not go outside (google air quality in China)
we will end up like Cuba where Che and Castro are worshiped by the American left
with political prisoners who are routinely tortured and murdered because they think incorrectly
with an economy like Cuba and Venezuela
that is completely and totally destroyed by their leadership
taking from the rich and giving to the poor in order to make everyone equally poor, except the leadership
Look at how our own leaders live, like Kings and Queens

Our own leaders think they are God's gift to the US people
and know better than the people
are smarter, better and more caring than the people
while they destroy anyone who holds opposing opinions
and do all they can to take and take and take
from the rich (but not the political rich) and the producers
until there are no more producers
and only extreme poverty reigns
with extreme luxury for what is becoming dynastic rich political families

Until we the people
start a meaningful third party
and Dems and Reps who are fed up
band together to bring down
the dynastic political class
and restore real democracy
and real freedom

the US will continue down the socialistic path of self destruction.

Your government is not interested in serving you. They are interested in you serving them. That's how they continue living their lavish lifestyle generation after generation. From their perspective, they are sheep herders and cattle ranchers.

Sorry I think think most politicians are idiots but the one thing I will give them is this. They are educated, literate, socially mature, can organize their lives. I dare say the people sucking off the tit of the govt are any of the above forementioned. Free will is something we all can personify in our lives. Most of the have nots are too busy complaining about those above to do anything about their current plight.

Sometimes I read things on ATS, about how the "American Left" is the same as the communists and worse, the SOCIALISTS (is using that word a T&C violation???).

It makes me laugh at the same time that it makes me want to rip my monitor off the desk, throw it out the window, swipe my mouse and keyboard off the desk, and kick the crap out of my tower. It's terribly frustrating.

It is my sincere opinion that people who think democrats are communists (and therefore, by extension, republicans are fascists), are utter morons. I'm terribly sorry, because I know a fair few people who are actually very intelligent will read this and take offense, because they'll feel I'm talking about them, but I just have to say it anyway.

The LEFT, and the RIGHT, are about as divided as your hands, people. The real question should be....
WHO IS THE BRAIN?!

We have never voted for the brain, we've only ever voted for the hands. Isn't that silly?

We can look at socialism and capitalism.... Let's translate those words quckly. PEOPLEism, and MONEYism. We support moneyism, because we're money sort of people. Some people support peopleism, because they're people sort of people. I like both people and money, so I'm a horrible renegade who will probably be arrested at any moment.

Some people are REPUBLICans, and some people are DEMOCrats. So some people are in support of EQUALITY and INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS, whereas others are in support of EQUALITY and INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS. Wait, what? #....

This is all an illusion, people. We're being played.

It's bull#, and it's bad for ya. -George Carlin

We aren't enemies. I know this is ATS, and everyone is enemies with everyone, because we are denying each other's wisdom rather than denying actual ignorance. But THINK people, we are all the people who are the bitches of this system.... We are all on the same side. We aren't enemies.... Even Cubans are people. As screwed up as it sounds, even SYRIANS, Iranians, even (god forbid) ISRAELIS are people. Russians, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Americans, we are all actually people. Like, there are normal people like us going "Wtf is all this?" in EVERY ONE of these countries....

Just think about it. Think about what would happen if we stopped fighting with each other and realized we were all on the same side, even if our elephants and our donkeys were different colors.

I think a lot of people have a serious misunderstanding of what government is supposed to be. It most certainly isn't supposed to be a provider. There are fundamental things that government is supposed to provide solely because we are just ants in a colony and government is only there to provide a means to collectively use our assets to defend the colony. There is nothing the federal government should do that doesn't serve every single person equally, and handouts are not serving equally because the workers provide and the non-workers consume. It's fundamentally wrong to think that government should look out for the poor or disadvantaged. That's our responsibility as individuals in society to do that. When we relinquish that responsibility to government, then looking out for the poor or disadvantaged becomes brainless and useless. It is doomed to failure. It's stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, but the ones who do the stealing are not the ones who earned it and it's just plain theft. The one huge flaw in the American election system is that it allows for politicians to promise their working constituents' dollars to the non-working constituents in return for their vote. Recent elections prove that the non-working constituents now outnumber the working constituents, so the workers are now the slaves. Sooner or later, the theft from the working public will drain it and there will be revolution. Easy as pie!

Sadly those in power and calling the shots revile in the fact that we are easily divided. Blacks fighting whites, one religion fighting an other, people fighting the police (the man). They make up the narrative and the un educated masses jump on the band wagon and follow suit. They know if the people ever came together we would have too much power and demand change. Our problem as the people is a we have no real leader or sense of direction. Most are too easily sidetracked by what they covet to see the big picture.

Totally agree but I dont see Americans stepping up and really having a revolution. lately some have stood up but they are focused on the wrong thing.

And what do you pledge to the disabled? You must work. I do too, and every 2 weeks I look at my paycheck, at the deductions and say, "damn, that's too much." But then I pay my rent and all the rest of my bills with what I get to actually take home, and there's enough.

Now quit your job, go onto these assistance programs, steal from the working, and try to pay your bills.

There was a time for me where I worked in construction, and we lost a big contract, and my unemployment ran out and I was looking into welfare to see whether I could make it go and stick with my job, because it was a trade job and had I stuck with it for 4 years, I could have had a master's license. And what I found, was that these assistance programs pay less than say, a walmart job. I wound up giving up on my apprentice job and taking one in another industry because, I could work for less pay and still do better than I could with all the "entitelement" i could be offered.

I do not resent the money from my check that goes to the less fortunate. I have been with a job and without, and I prefer to be with a job, because it actually does pay to work, regardless of what Fox News teaches.

I'm quite sure people take responsibility for it there whole lives. Nice way to completely simplify an extremely complex issue!

But having said that........ "Buying generic and not having a cleaning lady", OMG! Has there ever been a more appropriate time to use the phrase, first world problem, lol.

There's nothing wrong with a person living a privileged life if that's the position there in, it's kind of naive to pretend you'd be going without and living purely to serve the poor if you where in there shoes. You want to blame somebody for all the problems there are in government, then try blaming the foolish people who keep voting for the two party system, well at the same time complaining, year after year how broken it is.

EDIT: btw, don't know how it would go down in the US, but where I live when it comes to dealing with welfare, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. If you act all polite and mentally stable, they'll just screw in every way possible. But if you go in there demanding your money and talking like your a hairline away from completely snapping, they'll sort you out right away. It's a shame it works that way, but that's life, good guys finish last.

Educated meaning formal education? The value of that is subjective. So is socially mature. I've seen rich and educated people do some pretty horrible things. It's not about have and have not. It's not about us or them. It's about realizing that each of us are people. Just as special, just as important. If they believe in the system so much, then why not lead by example and live off if it. Since we pay the taxes that end up paying them, they too are sucking on the same tit. Just don't have to go through any of the red tape and hoops the common folk do. Why is that? If they are living off the system we pay into, then why not make them follow the rules we do?

I'm not saying this because I am a have not. I would put my education or social maturity up against any politician any day of the week. Because emotional maturity tends to get people through more than a degree.

The cleaning lady joke was just to demonstrate the point that these guys are a little removed from the rest of us. there is nothing wrong with being rich. Truly. But I think there is something wrong with saying you are dedicated to being a voice for the people when you remove yourself from them and your words are dictated by popularity polls. I'm not blaming anyone , but if I were, it'd be all of ours. Things would not be like this if we didn't allow it. And if we look at the news, the first thing government does if things go wrong is blame someone else, or lie outright by denying it happened. These are the educated and socially mature?

To me education can be many things, formal school, trade based education, and basically anything that helps you to develop a skill set that can be monetized. My point is too many people make excuses for what they don't have yet are not willing to do anything to change it. It cracks me up the time, money, and energy the protesters out there are investing in their fight yet little action is taken to truly improve themselves. Yes it is harder for some people then others to achieve whatever it is they want to achieve but that just means they have work harder to get it.

Government exists in Democracy to protect the people from the threat of foreign invasion and as a means to hold order among the domestic interests of the people.

In other forms of government the government is made of the people who are the center of the people they rule in bloodline and in business or whatever other sectors their people depend on to survive.

Wouldn't it piss you off if your next door neighbor were the head of your household? Could walk right in and do whatever he wants in your house without your resistance? That would be infuriating.

Government assistance isn't supposed to be luxury. It's SUPPOSED to be a stopgap measure until you can afford to live on your own. The politicians in office don't need government assistance because they can afford to live without it just fine.

If you have a problem with the assistance that the government is providing, then improve your income so you don't need it anymore.

American Politics can be best described as follows.

Democrats want to give money to corporations under the guise of helping the poor.
Republicans want to give money to corporations under the guise of helping the rich.

I hear what you are saying and agree for the most part, but how much longer do you think value will be equated to money? This country is looking very similar to the end of the Roman Empire. And as someone who had fallen on hard times in the past, I found it very difficult to stomach the level of ridiculous red tape. I was obviously hungry and couldn't get foods stamps because I made $60 over the max amount that could be earned. My case manager "never recieved" my forms and didn't call me until 30 minutes before she left on the last day of the 30 days allowed to complete everything. So I didn't get general assistance because I would have done the whole process again after a long two months of scraping by. It was tough and they didn't give a sh!t. AND treated me like I was some drug addict criminal when I would deal with them personally. I have no criminal record and am not an addict. I had always had a job and busted my ass the whole time. Being told that welfare and similar programs are there to help me. Money taken out of my paychecks for such programs. then when I actually needed help, I not only got nothing, but treated like a criminal the whole time. I think it sucks and it would change completely if the people in office were forced to live the same as we do. Sit in that office for 3 hours before you see your case manager who is so overworked and keeps asking if you have a drug problem or felonies or owe child support. Then not even have food because of a clerical error and have to start over just to get their pay. They couldn't do it and would probably snap and shoot up the place with their hunting rifles. And who are we kidding? Some of the people in office are high or drunk anyway.
