TXTriker: What an amazing experience to have growing up!

It was and we have some very interesting stories about things the storms have done. Perhaps when the danger of these storms have passed we can continue this thread for educational purposes regarding the maps, etc. if those knowledgeable would agree to teach?

I'd also like to learn more, as I know very little about how these things happen. I can understand the basic maps and radars and understand what's happening, but I know very little. I'm still in High School so I have time to learn!

Maumelle looked to be in the path of it, then the storm angled north towards Mayflower. I read that "the town is gone" in reference to Mayflower.. I hope you get some contact from your friends there.

From what I have seen that is a pretty fair assessment, maumelle was in the direct path until the last few minutes when it jogged north, but they were expecting it to come back towards us, for anyone in the path of this...get somewhere safe it is a beast.

The basic understanding we were given when I was growing up is that they are caused by warm gulf air meeting cold air coming down from the rockies. If I had to guess I would lean to this being a pretty active season. There is still snow falling in the rockies and it was 90 down here on the gulf today. The extremes clash over tornado alley and snow to 90 is a pretty extreme difference in temps. Although, its been a long time since I was in school so they may know a lot more now about how the storms are generated. For being in high school still, you are doing a great job on keeping everyone updated.

Surely the hotel has somewhere in the interior where you can go to be safe?

Weather is something I've always loved, and been excited by. Sadly they don't talk about it much in High School. I'd like to do something meteorology related in the future so I try to keep myself informed and try to learn about it.

Be sure you keep an eye out for shelter if you need to get out of the car. That box is no place to be in a tornado!
