Chaos, Anarchy To Reign If Paterson Shuts Down NY

wcbstv.com

Chaos and anarchy. That's what New York Gov. David Paterson is warning if he's forced to shut down the government in a few days.

The clowns in the state Legislature, now deadlocked for 71 days on the budget, are ready to take down the "big tent" and bring state government to a standstill. At least that's what Paterson thinks.

"No one knows the full ramifications of a government shutdown," said Paterson. "It would create unimaginable chaos around the state and the greater metropolitan areas."

Such chaos includes closing all state parks, motor vehicles offices, courts, and even

There you have it folks,Doom and gloom straight from the horses mouth. Governor Patterson is telling the truth in the sense that the people of the state would go crazy if there public service offices were shut down. But I also feel he is doom and glooming to scare people into passing the new budget that is been in deadlock for quite some time now. This is a very scary thought because I myself live in New Jersey and work in New York City so anything that goes wrong in NY is surely to affect me and possible the entire country. Hate to be a doom and gloomer myself but think about it, state shuts down for a couple of days or a week, countries around the world would see the true extent of Americas debt crisis when they pick up a newspaper seeing riots in the streets because people cannot renew there license, get on a bus or train or even get there welfare check (which I myself am not in favor of in the first place) As I said, scary thoughts but hoping for the best as always

Forgive me of my ignorance, perhaps more so; my laziness, but,

What's causing the deadlock on the budget?

this happens in texas all the time.

few years ago, a bunch of i think GOP legislators took off to New Mexico to avoid being called into session and voting on a budget. such antics are the norm down here.

back under clinton the federal government did the same thing. brother in law was a VA nurse (RN) and worked for 2-3 months without pay. when they went and approved the budget, he got all the pay owed to him. but man did they suffer during that time.

Chaos, Anarchy/b]

Hmm, I wonder if he is crying wolf, either way it does not sound good. There has been an incredible amount of Doom in the air this year. It no longer feels like BS, it feels real this time.

Fear Mongering, Wild Threats and general BS expected from Paterson if he doesn't get his way.

He will then cry with a tub of Ben and Jerry's in the bathtub.

Good question. All I know from reading the article is that Patterson wants to make cuts in the budget and the dems are trying to block it. Typical Repubs versus Dems, when will they learn to work things out for the good of the people instead the good of there own personal beliefs or ideologies

Good shut it all down and be done with it! You might be surprised how well people get along without government. Although I do see a problem in a highly populated concentrated socialist Mecca like NY or LA.

I doubt there is much to worry about, these crooks will not risk the killing the goose that lays the golden eggs but chancing riots etc. This is most likely just posturing and theatrics.

only a conflict of interest could lead to such a stalemate, why isnt it being investigated then? oh thats right government can do no wrong right? how dare anyone think corruption may be responsible that would just be ludicrous. damn politicians are to stubborn,

in my opinion if your going broke then pinch your pennies, i agree with cutting the budget. or maybe they should just turn the gun on the one that hands out the cash and force them to hand out more i.e. the fed.

I live in NYC...this is just normal politics...the city is not strained at all..if anything as far as I can tell the recession is barely effecting the city..there is still ample amount of construction both private and city..as far as the rest of ny state I can't be sure but again there will be no closing NYC down...

I'm not saying this like a pround newyorker...just want to add my 2cents from someone living in the city..

Where's Snake Plisskin when we need him most?

Not to be a pedantic spoil-sport or anything, but there is already another breaking news thread on the same topic. Ideally there should be only one as far as I know.

That would be like keeping a lame horse alive, for your own pleasure.

Is it respectable to keep something alive, while in it's throws of death?

No matter. More money can, and will be printed, to keep NY running! Sure, just another year of fake money, fake pretending everything is ok, for just another year!
