According to this, the plane "goes" through Turkish airspace ... but is shot down over Syria, and crashes in Syria.
I hope Putin invokes Article 51, and not just against Turkey ... but against Nato as a whole. As the weapon used to destroy the helicopter, a rescue helicopter, is a NATO weapon.

This is why Turkey has no business in NATO. They are far too irrational. This is a big deal.
Just when the powers were close to a coalition possibly the first ever between the US China Russia and Europe.

Then Russia should have listened the first several times it was warned about violating Turkish airspace.
"This is an incident between the Russian and the Turkish governments. It is not an issue that involves the (US-led coalition operations)," Warren told a Pentagon briefing, via video-conference from Baghdad. - Sky

This is the area where CNN Turk claims their airspace was violated. It's 2.7km wide. Let's go with a really low number, assuming the SU was cruising at a leisurely 600km/h. That's 16 seconds to cross this distance. And in that time they supposed warned the aircraft minutes long and with 10 seperate messages. They really had to had their timing down. That plane was max 20 seconds in Turkey. You can't fly like 1 km behind SU-24s gotta be at least 5 km out. Sidewinders go at about 920 meters per second. So they had a good 10~15 seconds to legally shoot it down in turkey. German Precision right here.
Also: Turkey crossed over into Syrian airspace to kill someone who had already left their country. Imagine that you have border guards. Imagine that they see someone crossing the border. They want to shoot this person. But the person leaves. And they follow the person into the other country to kill them.
That is what makes this an act of war. NATO does not apply - NATO does not protect a country that takes acts of aggression. And crossing into another country to kill someone just because they earlier were in yours, IS AN ACT OF WAR.
