It seems coronal holes have the most influence when it comes to earthquakes but I'm sure CME's contribute as well.

Wonder if it had anything to do with the large solar flare that the sun fired out today?

Flare

Good call.

There have been over 10 major flares released in the last 72 hours (C5.0+); 3 C class, 5 M class and 2 X class; primarily from coronial hole regions 11875 and 11877 (not currently Earth facing). However there are a few concerns I have with current solar data coming out of CU Boulder.

3 CME's have been launched in the last 48 hours, and according to solar cloud data, they have in part merged into one giant string CME and it will hit the Earth partially in two rounds, once tonight and once on Monday.

Another CME partially hit Earth last night and that one caused the newly discovered super storm in the Gulf of Mexico to grow literally "overnight". As usually occurs in my recent study, the Earth's weather is effected first (first few hours) when a CME arrives, then 24-48 hours later the Earth's crust adjusts to the newly added energy (usually somewhere on the opposite side of the Earth). This appears to be what caused the Earthquake today.

So if a giant CME hits tonight, weather would be increased in magnitude throughout the night and we should see more extreme weather globally tomorrow, but how the Earth's crust adjusts Saturday- Monday is my primary concern with the solar activities we are seeing and how they effect the Earth.

There is a connection, but I do not yet have enough evidence to formulate a complete hypothesis.

If regions 11875 and 11877 do not calm down in the next week or so, they will rotate into Earth facing positions, and X flares would then have the potential for a direct hit... that is a GAME CHANGER!

God Bless,

[ looks out window towards Gulf of Mexico. Checks local radar. Is confused ]

Um. What planet are you on? I live on the Gulf coast, there's not a damn thing out there. o.O

Are you thinking of another area elsewhere on Earth perhaps?

Don't worry, they sure have added few metres to the anti tsunami wall. They are not idiots, are they?

So they're not expecting anything major then? Good, they don't need another bath courtesy of the Pacific. I'm hoping the aftershocks pick up a little, there doesn't seem to be very many of them yet for something this big. It's unnerving, to say the least. i sat up the whole night here in the US, riveted & glued to the boob tube watching in complete numbed shock over the destruction from the Big One. I don't want to see an encore, and I'm sure they don't want to experience it, either.

Well this was exciting for 5 minutes. At least until you can comprehend that a 7.3 is a normal day here.

I suspect it was made only news by a couple of busy Twitterites who saw that as a higher than normal reading?

Five minutes ? A normal fraygon day ?
You're right, we should all be completely at home with four reactors
in meltdown right on the coast in earthquake and tsunami country
with typoons and hurricanes pressing resulting in evacs of the crews
fighting an on going disaster.

Nothing to see here. Cheers hicup everybody !

Oh no, you're right. That came across as totally wrong.

What I meant to say was, I'd be amazed if Japan is still above water this time next year.

Except for the fact that:
-most of the "flares" you talk of have completely missed earth,
-we were hit in a minor way by one, but that was yesterday,
-and that the other two have not even got here yet.

Why do you assume the connection is direct-earthquake? You state with an unequivocal "no" yet you seem to assume the ONLY way there can be a connection is a direct line of sight impact - why? Why do you assume this?

I assume that, because its the only sensible conclusion to make, given that nobody has yet shown ANY link between them and earthquakes.
The alternative you provide is to blame flares that did not even hit us, and also other ones that havn't even gotten here yet.
Anything goes, huh?
If the link between solar flares and earthquakes is so strong that even flares that are millions of miles away are to blame, then one should assume that there might be some evidence for the phenomenon.
But there isnt. Unless you accept the prior assumption that you can even blame them when they dont exist here.

Ha Haaa! No middle ground for you a Ram ?
It's either black or white, up or down, left or right.
I agree it is hard to constitute a position on
anything nowadays.

Yeah, they downgraded it to a 7.1... Hope it keeps quiet now.. crosses fingers. we need stability so they can try to get Fukushima under some type of control...

Problem with them needing stability is they need it for the next half a century if they are to sort Fukushima out!!!
The chances of Japan not having another big EQ and subsequent Tsunami in the meantime given their history makes me feel like it's almost inevitable.

So we have a 7.1, 5.1 and 4.8 in a relatively short window all withing the same location off the East coast of Honshu... I hope things aren't waking up here, but it's troubling to see such big and decent size quakes going off in rapid succession in the same spot.
