You have a Master's Degree in B.S.

Why should anyone believe one word you write on here? You have proven by your posts that you are an intellectual midget.

The difference between you and me is that I was not serious with this post, but see how easy that was....

No offense but why should anyone believe anything you say OVER someone who is educated in said subject....

You changed your tune after issuing a challenge and the challenge was met and overcome.....

You get snarky with someone and when they meet you head on , then all the sudden they are the bad guy?

Hardly upstanding in the least

Excellent Synopsis

i completely do not believe you.

in what field of mathematics did you recieve your supposed "doctorate"?
what school?

what was the topic of your dissertation?

what did you contribute to your chosen field of mathematics?

Sure, I'm going to give that information out on an anonymous internet message board.... do you want my birthdate and social security number as well??

Really as an educated person it is obvious to me that you are as well. That was the point of my previous post to you.

We simply do not agree on the nuances of some of these issues.

If you are educated, then surely you see that we were given a point of perspective from a teenager based on her being upset about an event with her younger sister. You know very well that situations such as that are hardly representative of the actual occurance and cannot be taken as the absolute truth.

I have a Master's degree in it, how about you? Just a book? One little book? HAH!!

Its' not the point you are making, it is how you are making it.
Do you discredit your students that way?

Intrptr takes apple back off teachers desk and eats it in front of her. Students laugh.

Don't fight your class. They will eat you up every time.

Have you read or studied on the American Educational system?.

I get so tired of this. The dumbing down of America.

Let me tell you - - the school system today is exactly the same as it was in the 50's.

Basically targeting the "middle" student - - - read - memorize - take a test. Thinking is not encouraged - - because a specific curriculum has to be accomplished. Diverting from the plan creates extra work and makes it harder for the instructor to complete the assigned curriculum.

In the 50s - - teachers were allowed to discipline and be more personable with the student. That has not always had good results.

In the 50s - - your records were sealed. Teachers could write anything they wanted about you and it followed you all the way through high school.

After the information act - - - teachers could be held responsible for what they said about a student.

In the 50s - - (at least in my area) you were Christian - even if you were Jewish. Only Christian holidays were observed and every student had to participate.

Today - - - teachers can not discipline. They can however - - suspend a child that is disruptive in class.

Today - - - we have cultural diversity. The backgrounds and cultures of every child automatically becomes part of the curriculum. If a child is from Pakistan - - - learning something about Pakistan is required.

Today - - - we have counselors in most schools - - kids can go talk to if they have a problem.

Today - - - (at least in my granddaughter's school) - - grading is done electronically by an outside company. No such thing as teacher's pet - - when it comes to grades.

Today - - - kids have to pass tests before they can move to the next grade.

Today - - - even some elementary schools have electives.

Today - - - there are programs for the gifted - - - and also programs for those with learning disabilities.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So please - - - don't waste your time telling me how the schools suck today - - - and how great they were in the good old days.

Hot! Hot! Hot topic. Controversy and dysfunction to the fore! Best and worst ATS has to offer. This really put the shiny shoe in the horse poo.

Old vs. young.

OP, the day will come when you will say, "What have I done?". When that day comes, find a way to, a.) forgive yourself and then, b.) redeem yourself. Unless you're a genuine sociopath, that day will indeed come.

If you do find yourself one day in counseling, go over what has transpired in this thread with that person. When you put this into the web, you put a mirror up to you mind and your world. I can't say it's pretty at all.

On the other hand, ALL education is brainwashing. As people, we need to be programmed. You have to be EXTREMELY careful what ideas you put into that young impressionable mind. I can't say that I endorse the current communist/socialist agenda that makes up public education. That said, homeschooling is pretty bad in its own right.

I hate to say it, but Hillary Clinton, nailed it when she coined the phrase, "It takes a village to raise a child."

Let your sister learn to, "PLAY WELL WITH OTHERS.", that is important.

You screwed up. You were fourteen, you're eighteen now and you yourself have much, much more to learn.

Tell you what, the night they broke in on the news to tell everyone that Bin Laden had been killed, my 9 year old said, "That's not true" before her father and I could get one word in.

And this statement is based on what?

What you've told them to believe?

Clearly this is the case because for all intent and purpose, he is dead.

He will be never seen or heard from again.

So your nine year old, at best, can parrot your ignorance.

You must be proud.

Did you read my post? She said it, before her father and I said one word about it. How could I have previously taught her about Bin Laden being dead, before the news break?

My husband and I rarely discuss our feelings about conspiracies around her. She's more interested in Pokemon and Geology right now.

I'm very proud of my daughter, because she's very intelligent and can think for herself, which is something a lot of children her age are barely capable of. I've seen children her age that cannot read, let alone write. It's frightening.

No its not. There is an older book. Kind of dry and winded. In there it describes the changes wrought in the basic curriculum and how they have dumbed down America. There is one example I remember from the book. I have personal experience as well. Phonetics was used to teach children how to read. To "sound out" letters, conjugate verbs and understand sentence structure.

A switch occurred while I was still young (that almost threw me for a loop) to what do they call it now: "see and say"? We knew it as, See Spot Run. Run Spot Run! Rote memorization of words was intended to replace phonetics. It was a disaster. I wonder how many kids can't read today as a result of that system?

He didn't vet anything. He just threw out insults and immature self glorification.

No he didnt he raised some questions he should have.........

weren tyou the one just insulting another poster not a few posts up?

Come on.........thats a bit hypocritical

I agree that this young kid could be causing more problems then he is "enlightening"

The issue is you have to use discression and the OP is not doing that with this young impressionable person....

Others claim the world indoctrinates people.............what do you think getting them young and teaching conspiracy theories and wild accusation is w out facts?

its the same thing, you cant trade one form for the other.........

You have to be responsible..........and thats all a lot of people on here are saying.....

The public school allows questions to only go so far. As long as they fall in line with what the curriculum. The teachers cannot go too far outside of it, or they would lose their jobs.

what is REALLY going on in public schools:

"...the real purpose of American education: brainwash our children"

The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America

Not only this, but there are a lot of abusive people in the school system that work as teachers. During my years in school, I was witness to physical, mental, and emotional abuse. A lot of them bully their own students and have serious issues and a hatred for children. In some ways, I think that the school system is a glorified day care center.

I've seen so many children over the years who cannot read or write, and do not know where the states are located in our country. Some don't even know who the presidents are, or how to count money. I've seen teenagers not know how to make change at their jobs, or count their drawers. It's not all the parents fault, but some of it is.
