“When the president told me yesterday that he wanted a clean increase in the debt limit, it almost took my breath away,” said Boehner, referencing his meeting with President Obama on May 16.
“We had this debate last year. I reminded the president that when we put that idea on the floor of the House it got about 20 votes and over 400 members against it. The problem is the debt. The problem is the spending. Washington keeps kicking this can down the road, kicking this can down the road, just like our friends across the Atlantic, and look at where they are. We have time to act. Why don’t we act on our own?”
Boehner also told reporters the $15.7 trillion debt is a “wet blanket” over the U.S. economy.
“Our debt and our deficit act as a wet blanket over our economy causing employers and investors to wonder about is Washington going to act,” he said.
“The sooner that we deal honestly with our long-term debt and our budget deficit, the sooner the skies begin to clear and more certainty comes so that American employers can do what they do best, put Americans to work.”

Austerity will kill growth, if the foolish still do not know by now. Look at EU and what's happening to UK with their 'solution' as austerity.
When the nation is doing well, that's the best time to have 'austerity'. Cuts to make on the redundant so that pain can be avoided at all levels in society.
When the nation is in a rut, the only way is to SPEND, but spend WISELY, not on bailouts, espacially on banks on finance institutions whom will only hoard up the money to balance their unwise and reckless expenditures, BUT on creating jobs and growth in the economy.
For every dollar spend, the authorities MUST make sure they get $2 in the least back. That is called 'wise' spending. It comes with returns and circulated wealth and will grow the economy.
Method to do is NOT by creating gov jobs alone, but in the private sectors to protect and promote jobs, infrastructure spending on the necesary such as roads, rail, power lines, to facilliate increase productivity in supply chains, in education to upgrade the skills of workers to take on higher valued jobs, promoting American brands through international trade, etc.
Think out of the box. It's the american way and had proven successful since independence. The current malaise is due to apathy by the masses and letting the rich elites do the thinking for mankind. And elites are ever selfish, for they know the room at the top is limited, and would need slaves and apple polishing fools to fill the bottom support base, to support their way of life.

You totally invalidate your point in your last paragraph. "letting the rich elites do the thinking for mankind." You advocate letting the government spend, so you're trusting the elites to spend the money you give them "on creating jobs and growth in the economy." See the problem? They have shown they can't do that wisely, so you want to give more?

Lets turn into Greece, yahhooo!
One component leading to the unrest across the eurozone has been the enactment of austerity measures. Billed as an answer to the European sovereign debt crisis, austerity measures focus on achieving reduced levels of spending primarily through cutting public services and programs. This is done so that taxes need not increase to compensate for deficits. Needless to say, whenever public and social services are cut, those who champion said programs, particularly on the left, are bound to pose strong resistance. Such has been the case across europe, specifically Greece. With the exit of Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is perhaps the only pro-austerity leader left in Europe.
It might also be worth noting that “Golden Dawn” takes its name from a “magical order” of Freemasons who practiced in the late 19th and early 20th century Britain. The order has been cited one of the greatest influences on Western occultism.
Beck, who believes the Greeks have simply reached a saturation level and no longer trust their government, are vulnerable enough to succumb to the message of parties like Golden Dawn. Michaloliakos began by attacking the banks for “stealing” from citizens and then added fuel to the fire when he blamed illegal immigrants for exacerbating the problem by living off the country’s resources without contribution in return. Beck warned viewers to observe carefully as events unfold in Greece as that is where America is likely headed if the country stays on its current trajectory. That same type of worldview, according to Beck, will resonate with Americans in the years ahead
