Seriously though, Russia's only flexing it's muscle to protect natural resources and it's weapons partner, Iran. Putin is wanting a fight....

I am curious though what Chechen rebels think of Russia's defense of Iran.

Russia would destroy Israel, they have the most sophisticated air defense systems. Israel needs US help to defend themselves.

Get out of Iran, Israel doesn't like us anyways... Instead of working on keeping a nuke out of Irans hands, work on our defense strength even more, so a nuclear bomb couldn't get near America anyways. If Iran ignites the east with a nuclear bomb, you can only blame them.

Dude this has nothing to do with borders and countries - this has everything to do with business and Russia is trying to protect it's assets, plain and simple.

We sit here and only read what's on the surface but there is a another layer to the so called truth out there. If you analyse what is going on and use Occam's Razor here you soon start to see the most viable picture, one that is plausible in this day and age.

A world war involves a mass of resources (has done from what I can gather looking back at history) so this is no different - you have powerful people playing a game of chess and we are getting caught in the middle.

It's not the war that bothers me, it's the aftermath...

While the world and in specific the US votes one way, if it is within the interest of either China or Russia, they vote against such. So they are posturing to give Iran its back, and to assure them of who is on their side. Now keep this in mind cause there is more of an ulterior motive, and you can not get something for nothing. Taking a look in history gives a good idea on the mind set of Russia and its motives, and hopefully this is not the case. In the past, Russia suffered time and time again in different wars, losing both man power, materials and land. Slowly it developed the mindset of not letting this happen again. During World War II the stage and plans were laid to create a ring of territory around the country to prevent this from happening and the Iron Curtain went up. For years Russia has been wanting a warm water port for its navy, one where it could house its fleet and not be worried about ice. Combine that with the resources in Iran and it would make a very tempting target.

It knows that it can not successfully win in a conflict with a Muslim people, it tried in Afghanistan, and was forced to withdraw. Now an opportunity has come up and it sees the opportunity to use it to its advantage. Iran is a strategic place for it, not only giving it the port it wants, but also the resources it desires, namely oil. A greater control over the oil supply and it can booster itself up, to even rival China. The question that should be asked and focused on, is not about the placing of troops on the boarder with Iran, but what is it offering and what is China counter offering to Iran for their protection and good will. Nothing is free, and in this kind of posturing, they can’t have something for nothing. Much of the worlds oil supply goes through the Straits of Hormuz, and ultimately that is going to impact the price of oil and gas, around the world. It is a pretty tempting target and one that would give a good strong leverage against other countries, that are dependent on the oil that flows through there.

We should not be so foolish to think that the other world powers are just going to sit back and let this happen, as they are drawing lines in the sand to be either on the side of Iran or against it. The Chinese are certainly not going to just ideally sit by and let the Russians get a leg up on this either, so there is that factor to consider. China has been a long term ally of Iran and will react badly if Russia goes in, even under the pretense of assisting the Iranians in this endeavor, as it threatens their interest as well. The whole world is watching and we can hope that cooler heads and diplomats can work things out before the stroke of midnight and the next piece is moved.
