Actually, they should be allowed to pray. Those that do not want to participate, well they can use those 2 minutes in their own way.

Individuals can pray.

Some schools do a couple minutes of silent thought.

Organized prayer in public school? Absolutely not. We are a secular government.

And those billboards are correct. Of course the Christians just think it's THEIR God that isn't a myth but all the others are.

Fine, not everybody has to be a Christian. Who is stopping them from being an atheist or Buddhist or Hindu? But then they don't have to attend or work at a Catholic Institution then demand that institution act according to atheist beliefs or against the Catholic doctrine. It's that simple. The liberals are so used to getting their way every time and demanding everyone switch to their belief system. They stamp their feet and say do this my way or I will ridicule you or take you to court or whatever other means I have available to force you to do things my way....

Why does it have to be Christians? How many other religions that believe in a God or gods?

Agreed: there is a group of atheists who are becoming overly dogmatic in the worst kind of way. Any pushing of beliefs and opinions on others is abhorrent and deserves the harshest scrutiny. Why is there any sort of atheist community or organization whatsoever? Isn't that the sort of repellant activity that pushed us away from being religious in the first place?

Also why a billboard? There is nothing more offensive to my sight and intelligence then a billboard—especially one adorned with someone else's morals.

Don't get me started on liberal hypocrisy please.

And not all atheists are liberals either.

That 11 year old has a twelfth grade reading level and 8th grade math level.

So? My now 18 year old grandson had a 12th grade reading level at age 5.

My 4 year old grandson was reading at age 3 - - - he taught himself to read from his computer programs.

My brother was reading the newspaper at age 4 - - - his favorite subject? Politics.

That is not something an 11 year old would naturally say on her own. He beliefs come from her environment.

Oh please! What is this, a whizzing contest for whose kids and grandkids are the smartest? You see that is exactly the kind of snobbery that hurts people who have handicapped kids or kids who were affected by vaccines or whatever. And you constantly promote this whole "tolerance" Cr*P.

Let me ask you something Annie, as someone who has worked with kids in Montessori... would you rather be a parent or grandparent who brags their kid was reading 12 grade stuff at age 5 which is extremely rare and have we heard of him on the news? or would you rather be a parent or grandparent who was fulfilled by the action of sitting down in a chair and reading with their child or grandchild?

Touche! Of course they are not, and not all Christians are conservatives either. And not all conservative Christians refuse the teachings of Hinduism or Buddhism. Some Christians accept the infiltration of Marxism and subscribe to what is known as Christian socialism, but that is really a matter of understanding what true Christianity is and is not, as you see Marxism is really anti-Christ by nature, but there are fake Christians in high places.

I'm sorry, but I can't believe that Christianity is socialist. Christianity and Socialism are almost antithetical in nature.

The commandment says:

"Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's goods".

And Socialists are all about coveting thy neighbor's goods in the guise of making society better for all.

But that is the subject for another thread and is off topic of this thread.

Almost every person on this planet is born/assimilated into one god belief or another. From birth almost all of us are taught God. God the Creator. Etc etc etc. Only when you completely remove yourself - - step out of that "God Circle" - - can you see it. Be completely objective. People create energy. When you belong to a group or congregation you create/share that energy which does have a euphoric affect. Don't think I don't get it. I do. If Atheists started organizing and coming together in groups - - they would experience the same thing. A euphoric feeling created by sharing their energy. To remain objective - - they can not do that. I would never support an organized regular Atheist group meeting place. For that reason.

From Birth I do not remember being taught God, I just knew something greater was out there and for some reason I always looked outside of me and into the sky above. It is a feeling. An emotion that becomes inspired. Doesn't make it wrong. Or ..me wrong. Its who I am

Im not in a God circle..so I don't have to step out of something Im not in.

I share energy with everything I'm around it seems like, even the light switch in my bedroom that always shocks the crap out of me....even the damn plant shocks me. I talk to it and give it coffee by the way.

If I were an atheist I would not call myself an atheist anymore. I would set myself outside of that circle and be my own free thinker....call myself whatever but it would be "different" if I were a non believer. I think I would call myself nonsingularitybeliever but seeker for truth. ?? See I try and put myself in the shoes of a non believer and my mind for some reason cannot fathom a Universe/Multiverse without a creator, or a seed. This is what I am shown all the time....how living things multiply. I feel as though "God" shows me his creation through my senses.

I see creation all around me in nature, I see that I too am a creation. I have been created by something. Scientifically speaking...I see proof everywhere. Spiritually speaking I feel it everywhere.

The sound of music is inspiring. It too leaves me feeling in awe.

When Im out on the lake fishing...I can talk and ask questions and I could swear I get answers soon after. Anything and everything that inspires me brings on this feeling.

I am truly trying to understand the way of thinking a non believer has. I consider myself a seeker of truth who loves the example of Jesus. If I had to choose..I would just choose to be the best I can be and use him as a guide. Thats what I have chosen to do. No religion...just a guide.

So....I have given you a piece of my mind...give me yours.

What freedom of speech?

Christians to atheists: SHUT THE FARK UP! ONLY WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH!

Liberals To Limbaugh/Palin/Newt/Conservatives: SHUT THE FARK UP! ONLY WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH! YOU'RE RACIST TEABAGGER BIGOTS!

It seems some groups in America think that they have more rights than others and can't seem to understand that Freedom of Speech means the right to express any belief, no matter how unpopular or unfortunate it may be.

they need to learn how to shut the Fark up and grow a thick skin and not allow unpopular opinions to bother them so much.

Words only have the power one imposes upon them.

They have a right to free speech. For years us Christians have been putting up billboards with "Jesus Loves Everyone" etc. to connect with other Christians so there is nothing wrong with Atheists doing the same to reach out and connect with other Atheists. If they are doing it to try and convince spiritual people that their beliefs are wrong, then they are wasting time and money but the article says that they are doing it particularly for other Atheists who maybe feeling alone. There is nothing wrong with that in my eyes. Atheists need to connect with like-minded people too.

Seems to be a good point.

But don't forget, this latest effort seems to be targeting Muslims and Jews.
(given the new signs are going up in those "neighborhoods" with Hebrew and Arabic language)

Those particular groups might have a stronger resentment to the "god is a myth" slogan !!

In the bible someone asks Jesus why he doesn't go to the churches and preach his teachings. He says they have their church. To me it means that at that time Jesus saw that the church had become the center of their faith and not god. This is evident today in more than a few churches. These people fail to see their shortfalls. What jesus tried to teach was good. He said give onto Cesar what is Cesar's. He had no intention of getting involved in the governments of the time. He was trying to teach people to be good to others and to be truthful and honest. These traits were not bad. He also states that to be saved you just had to be baptized and believe. If you wanted to follow him in his travels you had to give everything you owned away to the needy. Not necessarily the poor, not those who would waste what you gave them either. The tithing to the church was initiated for a reason. The churches of the day gathered and stored foods for hard time. They also gathered currency for things that were needed by those of their congregations. They wanted you healthy so you could give 10 percent to the church for this. They were like the Food banks, Red Cross, and FEMA are like today. The Catholic church started the Friday Fish thing because they saw that eating fish one day a week made people healthier and healthier people gave more to the church. They could store more money and food for hard times. This was good, I understand their intent. Eating fish is good for the Thyroid, Ocean fish has lots of Iodine also.

So what is wrong with people, they don't understand the other reasons for the church sometimes. Finding faults in others is a judgement. True Christianity wasn't pushy. Did Jesus go around shoving his teaching down others throats? Hell no. He let others decide for themselves from the kindness and selfishness of his teachings. Can an Atheist say that this is wrong? Sure they can try. I allow others to believe what they desire I believe as I believe. I just try to stay honest and understanding.

Laws of this country were supposed to protect the good people not the deceivers. Everyone knows what I say is true. Many will disagree even though they know what I say is true when they find they are deceivers and didn't realize it.

God is a myth and espousing 'atheism' is a belief. If Pantheists did this, it might mean something.

As it stands, it's just one lemming sector trying to decry another -- idiocy at ten paces.

Folks here seem to not understand just what an Atheist is. They have some preconceived notions that are false.
As to “Spiritual”….Just what do you mean by that?
How exactly do you know that Atheists are not spiritual?

As an Atheist I feel that the religionists have had their way too long. How many laws to we still have that are due to religious beliefs? Are there still places that forbid Alcohol sales on Sunday? The abortion issue is still a religious issue. And those tax exemptions--what was that in the Constitution about making no law re religion? It seems that they did make one, didn’t they. I’d like to know Why.

I think the signs are good. They will create doubt in some minds that may eventually lead to rational thinking individuals. We definitely need more of them. I hope there is another generation of signs to further the message to those who already have doubts.

It is ironic that the religionists celebrate the alleged birthday of their Patron with all the décor and pageantry of Saturnalia.

Azadok, all atheists do not believe in evolution. We consider the possibility that Earth was colonized by ET. I would even call it a probability.
Your fairy tale of a “god” who somehow “shazams” matter into being is silly.

Waste of money you say. No more a waste than all those little “tracts” that religionists put out and lay around all over.

r w fresh says: “Wonder how long until we see some hate crimes against atheists.. haha. Would love to see a big crucifix spray painted on the billboard. Or a big "Love one another" spray painted over it. hahaha that would be awesome.”

*****You are making our point -- religionists are violent and have no respect of the property of others. Thanks.
