Me thinks it may be fracking *, which is going on at a rampant pace. It's the new goldrush * for natural gas, coming soon to a town near you!

And speaking of earthquake rumble :
CONTROVERSIAL gas drilling DID cause Fylde coast earthquakes.

And now energy chiefs have sent a stark warning to shale gas company Cuadrilla Resources – stop the tremors or we will shut you down.

It comes as the company this week held urgent talks with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to consider a report into the risk of earthquakes associated with fracking – the process used to extract shale gas from deep beneath the Fylde coast.

The meetings followed the British Geological Survey’s (BGS) conclusion two recent earth tremors felt nearby were most likely to have been caused by fracking.

The hum doesn't sound like that, and it isn't something that can be picked up by audio recording equipment. I'll explain what I can because I've dealt with it myself for a while.

The hum is a sound that can be heard by certain (unlucky) people. It can be heard indoors or outside, but mostly it's worse inside. Often people in the same space cannot hear what the sufferer hears. Sometimes another person can hear it (such as a spouse).

It sounds like a very low frequency pulsing. It has a slow rhythm to it. Some comparisons have been made of the hum to a idling diesel engine, but that is wrong; an idling engine pulses too fast.

The hum is worse during times of stress. Mine has much since gone now that I've improved on certain areas of my life. (Drinking alcohol used to make it worse. I had to quit. Very good. Thanks hum.)

Strangely enough, I heard the hum within the last 24 hours, but that is likely due to stress because I'm dealing with an ear infection.

Some people (especially doctors) confuse the hum with tinnitus. Wrong wrong wrong. Some people experience ringing (high tone) and the hum at the exact same time. I've also had a doctor try to tell me that the whooshing noise is caused by blood pressure fluctuations. I have had those before. (Crotching down after rigorous exercise, then standing rapidly can cause this whooshing. Dangerous and could lead to falls. Don't try it. I noticed while trying to tie my shoes once.)

All we know is that the source of the hum cannot be found. Sometimes "it" can be, and it turns out to be a machine in a factory within range of the sufferer. Others have moved into houses where they can't hear it, and it stays away. People have driven around late at night trying to find the source of their sleep difficulties and found nothing.

As far as what's in the video, it could be a milling machine that "eats" up pavement. They are monstrous machines that can remove asphalt up to more than a foot thick (14 inches) and two lanes wide. If there is one in your neighborhood, it can feel like a tremor (earthquake) is going on because windows can rattle. Considering this type of machine would for practical purposes be very similar to what is used to mine tunnels underground, perhaps there is some underground mining going on. I don't know what it would sound like coming from underground though. But, there are some people who do know, and that's people who live near subways or people who make subways. I've seen a program that shows just such a machine and how it cuts through rock underground. Plenty of people have witnessed what these operations are like. If you dig on the internet, you might find a video or forum discussions on it.

It's definitely not the hum though. It does sound like something moving wind. Maybe it's very high speed winds in the upper atmosphere? My guess is as good as any.

Thanks as I read your post I did some searching and found
CO fracking locations

Interesting thing is the direction I head the noise coming from doesn't seem to have any fracking locations within 100+ miles. I don't know how far fracking can be heard?

I just saw this. I will reply, but I am having medical problems and need to lay down.

I live in N.E. Florida. I came home from the hospital and laid down. About 8:00 I went out to get my medication and there is this very loud sound that sounded like a large jet, train, but not quite. Very weird because I have read on ATS about people hearing these sounds and never heard it before. So, I was amazed when this was going on. Thing is it never stopped or changed. My family came by to check on me and asked what is that sound. Forty five minutes later it is still going strong. It seems to be coming from the sky, and no one can pin point it. I live withinn 20 Nautical miles N.E. from an International Air Port - JAX and we are under a flight path coming in from the ocean. We hear and see all kinds of large aircraft. It also is an intercept base to intercept unknown aircraft over the ocean and the F-18's rip out of there in full afterburn when they are scrambled. We have seen this many times. Up to 6 flying out one behind the other and very loud rattling windows, walls, etc. This sound is not like any aircraft and it maintains amplitude with no doppler effect indicating the source is moving (if moving you get doppler effect - not this sound). It is almost all country - rural area out here with no drilling etc. The water table in Florida is only about 6' below the surface and the aquafir is directly under us coming out of Georgia hundreds of feet below the surface, so no fracking or anything llike that. I was always a little sceptical of people hearing sounds. This is not like anything I have heard as it was so loud, you can forget hearing birds or anything at low amplitude. This is very strange to me. It is almost as if there is something hovering a 1/4- 1/2 mile away with a extremely loud and steady roar. I have not been out in awhile. I am not doing too well, but if I hear it after I lay down for awhile, I will bring my laptop out and record it for posterity.

I've heard something similar, only less airy and more deep and creepy. Were your dogs barking at the noise or something else? I have two dogs and they barked at the noise. I was inside my house when I heard it.

These noises are being heard all over the world. Can't be consistent coincidences ...can it

That's probably the sound of a loud jet plane that is too far away/too low/too high for you to see. I've heard exactly that sound when they have airshows near my house. Every year in Chino they fly a Russian Mig fighter that does a mock dogfight with an American F-86. Occasionally I go to the airshow so I know what's going on. The years that I don't go I always wish I went because I get reminded. Chino is miles away from my house (and behind some large hills) but you can still hear the disembodied rumble from the jets making maneuvers.

I don't think the dogs (not mine my neighbors) were barking at the noise as their barking wasn't as consistent as the noise was (maybe they gave up?) I'm not sure what they were barking at to be honest.
