you know what, they are protesting at the wrong spot anyway. the banks and corporations take advantage of the laws on the books. they should be on the steps of the senate and the house. the potus and wall street get the blame, but the rules are made on the hill

I see a lot of corporations are going to love this occupation, especially the peanut butter corporation.

Exactly! And perhaps it's unavoidable that some large corporations might profit a little bit. But think also of the small boost to the local economy, the street vendors, the pizza places, even the trickle down effect of the cops getting some overtime pay and their kids having extra allowance money to spend etc...

I've seen people all over the net wanting to contribute. But since this was organized as a disorganized protest there should not be any entity gaining monetarily from it. At least the nyc homeless will have some company for the next few weeks.

Instead of keeping people out the police need to drop their baracades and let people in. The police only duty should be to serve and protect the citizens, NOT the corporations. Better yet the police shouldn't be there at all. (Or at least not in force.)

I wonder if it occured to them that a lot of working class people that invest in the stock market for their retirement (401k's, ect) will take it in the shorts if they do manage to shut wallstreet down? Don't think those people'd be to happy with this protest.

I have been trying to keep up with what is going on there. Hopefully all goes well. The obvious thing is they have decided to treat them like Ron Paul in the sense of ignore them and hope they go away. I don't believe this is going to work with them than it has with him.

There has been a lot of people's 401k's that were wiped out in 2008 due to a corrupt economic system. Madoff made off with $60 billion in people's money, most likely with the help of the SEC. Enron wipedout there workers income faster than you can say Chance321. I can go on and on but your worried about the protesters shutting down Wall Street??

Living in London I have not heard nor seen any sign of protests in the city so is it true? Second my advice is to be totally peaceful and to watch out for agent provocateurs placed into your ranks by the government to undermine the legitimacy of the protest.
Should anyone start causing trouble for the love of Humanity surround them, strip them naked, take pictures of their faces to post on facebook and then hand them into the police lines. Because if you police your own demonstrations then the police wont have to wade in with riot shields.

Capitalism should be for non-essentials. No one wants to get sick. If we have a not-for-profit nutrition shake avail. for those who would benefit from it, would that be so wrong? Capitalism is not the only system that has free-markets.

Even under social anarchism we can use money as a tool of exchange, what we have to be careful of is the people who try to use money to make money, an unproductive system of wealth collection.

Socialist cooperatives are not non-profit, that is the point, businesses still make profit, but instead of the profit going to a private owner it goes to those who do the work. This increases motivation, and evens out the distribution of wealth, so we don't have such a huge rich-poor divide. Which BTW gets ever wider, so much for capitalism huh?

They all had the day off from work and school so they were able to attend the "Occupy Wall Street" gig.
Come Monday most will be at work or in class.

Good on 'em.

Whether they are in the 'right' place is irrelevant.

Wall Street is the symbol of the wealthy financial elite, and it is here that the protesters are beginning the work of reclaiming our country, for the people.

Peaceful protest works.

Demands are met, negotiations made.

We can deny the right of a corporation to donate to political parties, and the right to be considered a 'person.'

Close tax loopholes, and build in some rational, environmental clauses that make companies clean up their pre AND post consumer waste.

What we can't do alone, we can do together.

Corporations are in the perfect place to make a great deal of positive difference in social systems, yet they prefer to focus solely on executive personal profit.

It is time...

In reality wall street controls the government, the rules are made at their behest.

We have a government ran by, and for, capitalists. It was most obvious during the last Bush regime. We had the oil industry in charge of the ship. Doesn't this make it obvious why 911 happened, and we went to war in the ME?

To save us from terrorists? Give me a break. It's the same old game of conquer and control that has been going on for centuries. The ME has been on the radar for centuries also, the west has attempted to control it many times.
Not just because of oil, but because the west is trying to force global economic control.

This is exactly what we as Americans need to do.

The best way, and the only way that these protests continue is if we can set down clear goals that have to be met. The most important thing right now is 1) to show that the people are tired of being told how to live and 2) that we will not tolerate the obliteration of our rights any longer. I do not think that it is too much to ask to allow every person the right to food, water, shelter, education and medicine. Taxes should be proportional and we should bring back the jobs that we have sent overseas to not only to create jobs for Americans, but also to stop the exploitation of other countries in the name of profit. Corporate voices should no longer drown out individual ones.

This is possible, it is logical, and it is fair, and if we can unite on this or something like this then no major revolution needs to occur, no blood needs to be shed, and the American people will have something real to latch onto to give them strength when they need it most.

Just wanted to point out, this is not spin, it is the truth. The movement was inspired by the Arab Spring Movement, it explicitly states as much on their campaign website (emphasis mine):

Like our brothers and sisters in Egypt, Greece, Spain, and Iceland, we plan to use the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic of mass occupation to restore democracy in America. We also encourage the use of nonviolence to achieve our ends and maximize the safety of all participants

Besides, why is being inspired by something Arab such a bad thing? Are you so incredibly bigoted to think nothing good or inspirational could come from that part of the world?
