Perhaps there is a policy of non-interference. We are obviously in a phase and place in evolution where we still need to catch a wake-up. It is possible that the "below ground-dwellers" are far more advanced than us in intelligence, spirituality and technology. Perhaps they have their version of the Prime Directive and cannot interfere until we have reached a certain level of vibration/advancement. I think this is the same reason ET's haven't intervened directly.

See above...yes, thats not some kind of special knowledge, thats just basic understanding of biology...go to the bottom of the ocean where sunlight never penetrates and grab one of those creepy fish and bring them up..watch them react poorly to the sun over time..

Perhaps this is where some legends of vampires come from...

Perhaps the opposite..when your a middle earth cave dweller, you don't have the constant simuli to trigger imaginative thinking...seeing things in the clouds, patterns in the stars, so, they may be more focused in some areas, but why would they be concerned about things like propulsion or space travel if they are living in a cave world...
So, would venture to say that, perhaps they would advance far past us in a few areas, but overall it would be specialist knowledge and they would be inferior in other areas..

Perhaps they think of us the way we think of a bird...neat things that live on the roof, yet not something they overthink...after all, even if we nuke each other to extinction, it really doesn't effect them much (depending on how deep down they are..I would think near the mantle to use the heat of the earth for energy)

Perhaps they are slightly curious about our behavior in the same way some are curious about a nest of army ants in the jungle...throw some cameras down and simply watch them do their thing..ultimately neutral about what they do, yet academically curious anyhow.

I don't know if there are people living inside the earth or not. However, it is a tantalizing thought...

Admiral Byrd's diary is a good read. Also, The Smoky God is good and really mirrors many of the things in Byrd's diary.

I often wonder if there isn't a Native American or other indigenous peoples connection to it all...so many tribes of people whose legends say they came up out of the earth to the surface.

As to why they want nothing to do with the surface and its inhabitants? I'd guess we are either too inferior and/or too violent, as the other posters here have previously mentioned. I know that if I lived in some underground utopia, I sure as heck wouldn't be hanging out on the surface with the pollution, strife, anger and despair that are present up here.

THIS 1 WISHES THE SAPIENS SAPIENS would consider more of how the actions of 1 species domino effects many others. It saddens me that humanity carries this blood lusting trait to controll or rule. I DO however feel there is genetically part of humanity that would be able to handle the interactions in a positive and fair way as to keep Earth ALL working together. the planet may advance if above grounders and below grounders were to work as one. I think its becoming a pet peeve of mine...when someone claims all of humanity is somehow a brutal and savage creature..
Personally, I think its just reflection...they are the monsters, therefore claim everyone is..sort of like if you talk to a drug addict, they are convinced everyone on earth is a drug addict doing coke, crack, pot, etc etc etc...makes them feel better about their decisions to not change themselves..after all, everyone else is doing it.

Me as wellwhyamIhere, I always enjoyed thinking of it. and when I would see the old school diagrams of Earth filled with magma it just didnt cut it for me because I felt well some of that magma could cool and crystalize into land caves or shelves.

I agree once I heard of his story it was basically a done deal for me, there is too much data that would have to involve an almost insane imagination to be fake. So I take it like it is and pay attention to Earth and its MANY inhabitants.
