From skynews;

Prof Paddy Regan says #Fukushima radioactive vapour release should have half-life of just 5 secs! "Absolutely not a Chernobyl" #skynews

Wow they just had new footage of when the 8.9 hit on CNN, right from when the siren went off. It's intense.

wow wow wow... 1940: The 8.9-magnitude earthquake which struck Japan on Friday was the strongest in the area in nearly 1,200 years, David Applegate, a senior science adviser at the US Geological Survey, tells the Associated Press. He says the quake ruptured a patch of the earth's crust 240km (150 miles) long and 80km (50 miles) across.
www.bbc.co.uk...

What does that mean exactly?

Obviously there isn't a bottomless pit that is now 150 miles by 50 miles, or is there?!

I started watching coverage when they broke in on AC360. Fell asleep and woke up and watched some more, and I just cannot fathom the devastation. Switching around from all the news channels.. It is heartbreaking to watch.

My heart hurts, my soul hurts and yet I am mystified by the power of nature.

ISOTOPE to be released from nuclear waste plant is NITROGEN-16 - has a half life of 5 seconds decays to oxygen in the atmosphere, so is considered safe says Nuclear Physicist Professor Paddy Regan on Sky News.

Seems its a engineering problem as the power plant has a fail safe if it detects an earthquake and lowers the fuel rods out of the nuclear reactor. Seems they cant get reactor one temperature under control.

Looks like the solar winds are pressing hard on the magnetic field as we speak. I wonder what it looked like during the quake...

Indeed you are right, I was just putting the guy right who was saying it was so potent because the reactor was running. Radioactive is still radioactive, even when you turn the power switch off.
