Yes, I am watching the first of the waves hitting the seismos in Washington State and Yellowstone.

It is MASSIVE.

My fear is ofcourse first for the people nearest the epicenter and any possible tsunami. It looks to be shallow.

Second...is what might this trigger??? Off the West coast, or Arkansas. Even Yellowstone?

Just saw this too, shook my browser like crazy. This is proper Tsunami material. Fingers crossed for those in the area.

Does this mean all the others were foreshocks?

USGS is reporting 2 seperate 7.9's 28 seconds apart

I hope the tsunami warnings are going off.

Edit: Now they have changed it to 24 seconds apart but are still registering 2 sepearte 7.9's

I have a really bad feeling about this one guys. No only for them but for us aswell. Yellowstone, the New Madrid fault etc..

I don't care if I sound crazy or not in saying this but I'm not a religious person, I do alot of meditating. I will be sending positive vibes to all those people and to those here aswell.

No watch/warning yet. Still investigating it.They sound concerned though. This definitely has the potential.

To: U.S. West Coast, Alaska, and British Columbia coastal regions
From: NOAA/NWS/West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center
Subject: Tsunami Information Statement #1 issued 03/10/2011 at 9:58PM PST

This is a Tsunami Information Statement for California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska. NO tsunami warning, watch or advisory is in effect for these areas.

Earthquakes of this size are known to generate tsunamis potentially dangerous to coasts outside the source region. The West Coast/Alaska Tsunami Warning Center is investigating the event to determine the level of danger. More information will be issued as it becomes available.

At 9:46 PM Pacific Standard Time on March 10, an earthquake with preliminary magnitude 7.9 occurred near the east coast of Honshu, Japan . (Refer to the United States Geological Survey for official earthquake parameters.)

Pacific coastal regions outside California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska should refer to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center messages for information on the event.

Messages will be issued hourly by the WCATWC until the event status is upgraded to a warning or advisory, or until the center has determined that the event poses no threat to the California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska coasts. See the WCATWC web site for basic tsunami information, safety rules, and a tsunami travel time map and table. (NOTE: Travel time maps and tables indicate forecasted times only, not that a wave dangerous to the U.S. and Canadian coasts was generated.)

I can't even begin to fathom how there can't be a tsunami warning. 7.9 is huge! Not to mention the depth was relatively low..

Can someone explain how this could be a trigger to the new madrid fault? I live near memphis and have been very edgy ever since this arkansas stuff started. What kind of timeframe could be expected for the outcome if any?

I would imagine so. I am by no means an expert either. They were so close together I hope they didn't merge and create a supernami?

I'm not sure that it would "directly" affect it. But these quakes are increasing left and right all over the globe. I can only assume things will get worse in these active areas. It doesn't seem to be getting better that's for sure.
