I guess it depends on how the tunnels hold up and how much water flowing down..

Up the top of the glacier is where I believe I'm seeing my glowing area - the glowing area no-one else can see! lol I'm not mad.. I'm not mad.. I'm not mad..

The badly drawn triangle is the area where I saw the glowing that came and went over the course of an hour...

Looks like the wind has shifted and the eruptions got slightly bigger in the past hour or so. This post is indeed two lines.

As a diesel engineer, I'd say black smoke is either over-fueling resulting in un-burnt fuel in the exhaust or a clogged air filter causing the wrong fuel air ratio also creating black smoke. A blown turbo or leaking boost hoses can cause the same black smoke as well.
I'm not entirely sure whether the same principle applies for volcanoes or not though.

Sorry for the above, couldn't help myself.

Look closely at the summit viewed from Þórólfsfelli.

New steam vent?

Been watching one directly below the crater - not sure if it's snow blow or steam... looks like snow blow if you look at and enlarge shot 37 on the Vodafone snapshot site picasaweb.google.com...

i had a dream last night that a volcano blew its lid, black acrid smoke blackening the blue sky. there was lava spitting from the top. an aircraft or helicopter flying nearby blew up. that was my dream.

just thought i'd mention it is all

I think you've been staring at Berkeleygal's avatar for too long

i had a look on here for a volcano thread to post this in and got this one.
just thought i'd get it down in black 'n' white in case it does happen.

I've been looking my eyes sore, but I don't think it's snow. If it was it should have been blown clean by now. The color has changed to dark grey now, with some lighter patches in between.

It also looks as if there are deposits of ash to the right of the possible vent. It has a very distinct form of a fan.
Maybe it's an ash vent?
Is there a such thing?

Ah, I think we're looking at different areas - the area I was looking at is still snow covered

Black smoke less steam and less gases.

Looks like the lava is getting less gassy and thicker.

This could mean that the pressure is backing up in the volcano and that may cause the magma to start moving to Katla volcano causing it to erupt.

Volcanos are like giant champagne bottles when they erupt the gases in the magma foam and try to excape.

If one opening becomes plugged the lava and gases will find another weak spot to vent.
This other vent may be the Katla volcano.
This has happened before.

Yep, I think that's the area where ppl think steam vent is. It really looks like snow blowing to me... I can't see a stable point of origin - however my refresh rate is abysmal tonight
