I base this observation on the fact I live looking at the Southern Alps each day and often see snow-covered rocky ridges have snow blown off them this way. Can't wait for winter to arrive here and the Alps get their first dusting

Yeah, thats the bit I've been zoomed in on.. although shape hasn't changed too much over course of the day...

PS - Westcoast wins the "best drawn" illustration lol

It does look like a separate plume forming immediately left of the crater lip - it's a different colour and seems far more persistent than blown snow. Area I'm looking at is circled in black

Even since I posted that (dreadful) pic it appears something might be moving down the slope...

Just to the left of your arrow, is that a new small vent? I keep seeing steam rise out of that one spot. It looks small, but I don't remember seeing that yesterday.

I agree , are you looking at the view from porolfsfelli cam ? At first I thought it was a trick of the light with the dark cloud above causing shadows but if you follow the line down to the bottom of the glacier almost you can see movement and change also

LOL yeah - dead jealous!

I'm guessing there's a bit of ash around judging by their face masks.

Really really hard to tell now as visibility not as good due to shadow/blown snow and cloud coming in

My cue to hit the sack I think..

Want to bang on the screen and yell "Watch the bloomin' thing, stop yakking" lol

Eruption in Eyjafjallajökull

Eruption update 23 April
Similar situation for the last two days (see 21 April report)

Seismic tremor recorded by the Icelandic Meteorological Office: Some fluctuations, but mostly stable

Eruption plume: The strength and tephra content of the plume varies. In afternoon 22 April plume reached temporarily up to 6 km height, but was mostly at about 3 km level. Wind deflects the plume now to NW, closing airports in SW-Iceland.

Statistically speaking then Katla should erupt soon. Whats your cut off point for the bet eg if Katla erupts in 6 months, does that count as a 'not done yet' ?

Ok so what happens to us if this blows?

Whats the worse that could happen in the US and the world? Is that where the 3 days of darkness comes in?

Yes, it does appear there is a new vent on the left. At the moment there is a large billowing black plume coming from it. They are going to have to re position the cam.
