the death penalty - one of my biggest beefs with america/americans is the fact that you all still have the death penalty in some states. i think it's barbaric in a supposedly civilized country in this day and age. i know all the arguments for and against it but at the end of the day, for me, it's not ok to take a human life like that.

The death penalty is a nessesity in my eyes. There are those among us that have acomplete disreguard for life. Also I dont see the point in my tax dollars (approx 35k per year) supporting prisoners serving life, double life sentences. They will never see freedom again and they are of no use to socity

patriotism - while i don't think being proud of your country is a bad thing; i do feel americans seem a bit excessive in extolling the virtues of their "great country". granted they have a lot to be proud of. a lot they should be proud of. but so do a lot of other countries. so when i hear or read about how great america is this and how wonderful they are that ... i can't help but think, 'oh ffs ... get over yourself already'. yes america is a great country but geez ... a bit of humility wouldn't go astray. lol.

Having traveled all over the primary countries in europe I noticed that people thought I be far more aragent then I was. I can only agree with you on this.

ignorance and intolerance - ok a lot of countries suffer from an over-abundance of this one, including my own so you're definitely not alone here. but it's really annoying none the less.

Like you said this is all oveer and worse in some countries. I can say we are working on the intolerance but the ignorance we have a loooooooooooooooooooooong way to go.

I HATE YOU. GO BACK TO YOUR GHETTOS. GO BACK TO YOUR MUD HUTS. GO BACK TO YOUR PEASANT SHACKS IN THE SHADOW OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE OR OTHER DEFEATED LANDS WITH POPULATIONS BRED TO SLAVERY. YOU ARE UNFIT TO BREATHE AMERICAN AIR.
This kind of thing is a pretty good example of an extreme version of the type of American that is generally disliked worldwide.
Heard a quote that made me lol the other day:
"The only people who hate Americans more than the rest of us are Americans."
Personally, I couldn't say I have any generalised hatred of Americans, but there's a grain of truth there...

It's the self-focus...

The only time Australia has been attacked by a foriegn power was when American ships were in Darwin Harbour during WW2...
...more ordinance was dumped on Darwin than at Pearl Harbour...
...but ask an American if they know anything about the incident...
...and you will get a cold silence.

As I said self-focus.

I meant, americans are overreacting with that idea that "everybody hates america", we don't really hate you, it's just that TV is telling me that I do everyday, so sometimes I fell for it, but I'm fast to forget that, I need to be reminded all the time. cuz if somebody ask me what do I hate about america, all I can is just repeat something I heard on TV, roughly speaking.
and I observe the same in other haters.

mmm - that's another thing about the americans that bugs me too. it's always all about them. as with your example ... everyone knows about pearl harbour ... while bugger all of them know about the darwin incident.

it's not only that ... look at 9/11. 2900 people killed in the trade tower attacks and everybody knows about that. we all care about that ... and we all still talk about it. but similar attacks in the following years have taken out thousands of more people in just as cowardly acts - yet they all barely warrant a thought.

Thats kind of what I thought you meant, but I didn't want to insult your intelligence by assuming, since it may have been something else. I'm a European, as my Location suggests, & living in the UK.

The difference between immigrants of today and immigrants of the founding of this nation, you are actually going to try and compare the two?

Hell, why not just compare our founding fathers with the politicians of today!

Sorry I haven’t been around to participate in my thread, I had a long day of work yesterday and didn’t have the energy to respond to all of your wonderful posts.

First off, I’d like to thank everyone who participated in this thread. Your input has been helpful in my quest to understand how the world perceives the US. I would especially like to thank those posters who live outside the US, your input has been very enlightening.

I had hoped to hear more from the hard-core USA bashers but it seems they stayed away, possibly fearing to be attacked for their views. I can’t say I blame them, I don’t have any control over the other members and there was no way to ensure they would not have been brutally attacked for their views.

The consensus seems to be complaint about how we have let our govt become a fascist police state controlled by corporatism and corrupt politicians. Our military invasions are also a key source of international dislike.

Many point out we are a whiney nation because we constantly complain in the midst of plenty. Our priorities are out of line as we spend millions of govt money on sports stadiums instead of education. Our hierarchy worsens the lives of the poor in order to benefit the rich. We suffer from partisan blindness, often excusing aberrant behavior from a member of our own political party when we would destroy someone who did the same on the other side of the isle. We’ve let ourselves get intellectually soft to the point where most cannot think for themselves.

Whine Flu made the great point that if the US goes down, it would take the rest of the world down with it, as was shown by the US caused financial collapse.

Haley777 pointed out that we are Illuminati central and that we are a country of extremes.

Quantum Death pointed out the govt enforced secrecy regarding UFOs and high technology, a sore point with many on this forum.

This one, I especially liked;

For some reason American’s only think another country is truly free when they see can the golden arches high above landscape like the flag of a conquering nation proclaiming to the world that American corporatism has it’s feet firmly planted upon your soil.

I have to say, this is the most surprising criticism on the list;

Now while I don't hate Americans it does annoy me a little that they have to play different sports to the rest of the world. I mean why? Come on, America. We're having a World Cup here. Why not come and join in? Play with the rest of us.

There's nothing wrong with American Football, Baseball and Nascar, but I feel it just helps to keep America isolated.

Guilty as charged. I have no interest in soccer and my sports interests lie mainly in what would be called American sports.

Maybe an isolated America is what the world needs right now. We need to get off of the interventionist kick and learn to let the rest of the world deal with their issues without the US sticking it’s nose into everyone else’s business.

There were many other great posts, and I wish I had time to address them all but, I’ll let it go here before I get too longwinded.

If we do this, we would be damned for not helping. America is a double edged sword to me. Ya love it, ya hate it. Iunno. Just thought I'd chime in on that part, back to lurking.

Much love,
TDark.

As a PROUD American I would like to tell all of you haters to bite me...but I won't.

You hate our
1. Pride
2. Greed
3. Patriotism
4. Christianity
5. Power
6. Black Projects ( I love that. I guess you would like us to tell you all secrets:lol

Here is a thought. You and your little, tiny, socialist nations take in the tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to be free. Then once you have taken in all of the worlds populations that the world considers refuse and make your nation the richest, strongest, most freedom loving MOTHER in the world.

You Norweigans, where are your troops and doctors while Haiti suffers? You Frenchies, instead of saying we are "occupiers" (snicker) why don't you put your cheese down and get there with more then 100 people.

You New Zelanders. Still waiting?

All of of haters WHINE until you need Uncle Sugar Daddy to come rebuild your sorry nation when you spent more money on saving sealions then defending your self. Our troops die, your troops run.

The mods will deleate this post as soon as they read it so I need to get this out quick.

Hate America? Fine. Put your little heads on your little pillows tonight knowing that U.S. FREAKIN MARINES will protect your sorry butts.

I hate your assumption that we hate your black projects. The same can be said for everything else.

EDIT: I think everything you said sums up why some people hate Americans.

Hi FortAnthem, I like your posting, very sober and civil.

I think America is a nice place to be (for a foreigner) but now I am thinking again. What with your government abusing its own citizen with such things as MK Ultra, child abuse, pornography, crimes, GMO foodstuff, chemtrail, all kinds of experimentation occuring...of course I found such stuffs in here and similar websites.

If not, then I would like to visit the many places that are possible in America. Just hope that I don't have to meet "cuckoo" persons, though.

Thing is, its "U.S. FREAKIN MARINES" & the policy that threatens to put them anywhere that doesn't want 'fries & a coke with that' that we need protecting from!

I don't hate.

But it Sadden's me the Apathy of the American people.

The US could go down as the Greatest Empire to have ever existed , with
the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Instead they will be remembered as just another Imperialistic Empire
who reached too far , and failed.

That is because no government ruled by man can be any other way,

The only thing I hate about America are the angry, narrow-minded Liberals who seek to undermine the very Free Speech that they use to attack America.

It's idiotic and self-defeating. Where do these hate-filled liberals think they're going to spew their lies when the USA no longer exists? If they tried to spout off such propaganda in any other culture, they'd find themselves in prison or worse.

MUCH worse.

I hate paying taxes that line the pockets of others while I toil close to poverty.

I do not like that we are supposedly free but I cannot do things that do not infringe on others. If I was so inclined I could not grow and consume marijuana in my house and only my house by the laws of this government. Does not hurt anyone else, but I would be a criminal if I did it. That is not freedom.

I do not like that the country is not as the forefathers saw it to be. it is more about greed and less about freedom.

I do not like that our country does not do more to be friendly to every other nation. People are people and just because they do not reside in the US does not mean they are cattle that are below us.

I do not like that we are required to vote. While I think voting IS important, it plays no part in the current way things are run. We vote for the lesser of the two evils and they make alot more money than most of us ever will to make decisions based on their own believes and needs. While I know I cannot run the country, I also know that neither can they. Exhibit A-Z being the country in its current state.

I do not like the elitist attitude displayed by my countrymen and women. Ignorance is one of the worst things on the planet and while everyone thinks they are so vastly more intelligent than others, they are being stupid close minded pricks.
