Only the ignorant believe by shaming and insulting a child will that child grow to be a strong, independent, brilliant person. By insulting and labeling as such you likely then only reinforce the bad things things that need otherwise be changed. The child believes the parent, because the parent is who they depend on for a description of the world they know little of.

It is better to help people recognize their intelligence, their strength, their initiative, valor and bravery. Make them believe it in themselves. Reinforce that.

Your approach is bass-akwards and serves only to reinforce the reality you describe. Defeating your original intention completely.

Anger and frustration will color your approach. What you say could be said in a positive light. But you must resolve your anguish first, or you are the angered leading the anguished.

Describe a better American and convince us we have it in us to be that American.

I know you can do it!

Can we all stop blaming the government and start looking at ourself. What they are doing is crazy and #ed up, but the only way we could ever change is by changing ourself. We cannot change the society by using the same methods as the society is using. By believing we need to riot or write to the congress man or whatever way the society gives you to change, we also believe in the way the society is created.

The start is to realize who and where you are and always stay positive at any given circumstance.

Wrote a thread about it if someone is interested:

But what if that child has been indulged, spoiled, and it's self love grown to vanity? What then? What if that child is influenced by other children who tell it that it is acceptable to behave badly because he/she is better than other kids?

It is very easy to tell Jaxon how he could have phrased it better, and it is normally my nature to kindly encourage people--but *sighs sadly* that route takes far more time than I think we have anymore.

In my analogy we are long past the child throwing tantrums in Wal-Mart. We are in the "hanging with a bad crowd and doing drugs" stage. You've got the MSM creating culture wars, administrations who've hijacked the Constitution--be it the Patriot Act, the Fed system, Fusion Centers, or Obamacase, apathetic Congressional Reps and Senators who'd rather play games and take long lunches than do work, you've got a failing economic system, aggressive, preemptive wars that damage our credibility...we need to get up now and do something. Not six months from now, certainly not a year from now.

If someone is crying in their room and feels "ugly" then kindness and encouragement is appropriate. If someone has handed themselves and the lives of other people over to drugs and abuse then you need to put a critical hand to it and be "tough" to save lives.

We could do "both", I'm sure, and that is the purpose of a thread like this, isn't it? To provide balance?

I probably would not have even posted more if I had not seen the "America is the best" reaction. I would love to see America strive for perfection, I would love to see us embrace the best of our past and our worst in the efforts of becoming a better nation.

But we have to see both sides of our character before we can grow into the nation we're capable of becoming.

Start with you...

You didn't make the system and you are not going to change it.

People may follow words for a moment, but only until those words are not fulfilled, so don't live by words....live by actions.

You're frustrated, but you don't realize....you are the one that frustration is pointed at, because honestly you can't speak for another...you are not them.

Don't like what you see, change it, but know that it starts with you alone

Don't worry about every one else, I mean, don't worry about trying to "get them fired up". Worry about how you live and how you effect others with your example.

Create your world, and when people see it is sunny on you're side of the fence, they will ask "Got any more room over there?" You won't have to say one word but, "Yes" and NOT "Yes we can".

Peace

I will never forget the first time, in a community college classroom around 2002, that an older lady called me an idiot for suggesting that bush was using 9/11 as a reason to go to war in Iraq. She called me an idiot! "A young ignorant soul," those were her words. A lot of the other older students grinned in agreement. I won't say that this day alone made me lose faith, but it was a great start.

My point is, the people of this country aren't necessarily cowards, their just too insecure to think for themselves. I think the lack of standing up for our beliefs lies in the possibility of being wrong that is instilled in us every time we turn on the television.

For the record, i personally believe as long as they control the media, they control America.

In the famous words of Robert Deniro in WAG THE DOG, "Of course its true, they said it on TV." That pretty much sums up how Americans think.

I dunno, I think we're pretty cool, all in all. Ignorant? Maybe somewhat, but compared to what? I think there's a tendency of the MSM to talk down to us, speak to the least common denominator, so I think our ignorance may appear to be greater than it is. Lazy? Ok, I'll bite. What's to get all worked up about? I think we work longer and harder and are more productive than most other countries (I'm so "lazy" I won't bother to look up the statistics to prove this
)
I wish we were lazier. More laid back. I VALUE laziness. I truly do. Some of the most interesting people I know are lazy, including yours truly. Gutless Cowards who live in Fear? Would make a good band name. I don't think there's much truth to that assertion, though. Again, there are countless examples of individual heroism I could cite...but I'm sooo lazy. LOL. And I don't think we live in fear, really, again the MSM sells fearful things as news, and most people( at least most people I know) ignore most of it. I think as a general rule, we are human and humans are a big old mix of everything under the sun, the best and worst and a whole lot of in between. What exactly do you want the average Joe and Jill to do, anyway? We're just trying to live and be happy, get off our backs.

Keep a office in the dead center of America where the States Governors meet for a week twice a year to pass ideas/suggestions around...or in case of emergencies...

IMHO if we called back all of our troops and closed all our overseas bases and just left everyone alone we would get rid of most emergencies...

And while De-Centralizing .Gov why not centralize all the partys...

People without homes will not quarrel with their leaders. History repeats itself in regular cycles. This truth is well known among our principal men who are engaged in forming an imperialism of the world. While they are doing this, the people must be kept in a state of political antagonism.

The question of tariff reform must be urged through the organization known as the Democratic Party, and the question of protection with the reciprocity must be forced to view through the Republican Party.

By thus dividing voters, we can get them to expend their energies in fighting over questions of no importance to us, except as teachers to the common herd. Thus, by discrete actions, we can secure all that has been so generously planned and successfully accomplished.

IMHO if we just had the Human Race Party we would be much better off...

Oh my.

Just the video alone of representatives stealing the votes of others should be enough to have you all protesting in the streets.

THIS IS CRIMINAL!

There is simply NO EXCUSE for it. And how do these representatives "decline" to comment? They are YOUR REPRESENTATIVES! Stop "pleading" with them for a response, and FREAKIN' DEMAND IT!
Stop being so pitifully weak and complacent.

This is why America is doomed to fail, and why I completely agree with the OP. You people couldn't give a rats ass about what your government is doing. As long as you have some crap TV to watch and enough to distract you, you'll let them get away with this.

You wonder why other nations think all Americans are idiots? This is why!

And before anyone says it, we in Britain actually take action. Were you watching the protests? Did you see our headlines over the Expenses scandal? Did you see how many MP's were hounded out of office? Did you see how many of the wealthy elites had their property trashed and went into hiding?
Yeah, we get a lot wrong and we allow a lot to happen through inaction, but at least we know what's going on and we try to get answers. We don't always focus on the important issues, but at least when something major happens we take some action.

Doesn't make a nation any less stupid.

I could say, "Just look who sat idly by for years while a maniacal, evil dictator caused chaos and destruction around the world" does that make America look any more intelligent then?

Just look who invaded sovereign nations for oil and strategy against Iran, and look who "helped you out".

You can't coast on the war forever.
It's an easy and cheap shot. Especially by a nation who it is proved was protecting groups providing financial support to Hitler!

So what are all of you "awake" and all knowing people propose to do? I never hear any ideas for solutions besides revolution, and protesting?

I guess all of the other countries of the world are ok, they must all have everything together and are doing well? No genocide or "ethnic cleansing" going on. There aren't any people in other parts of the world who more fittingly can be described as fat, lazy, ignorant?

I don't watch any of those news shows that the OP listed, and I don't know anyone who does. Most of the people I know in America are constantly working, feeding, clothing and educating their families.

Wouldn't it be childish if I started a thread entitled "The French Are Complete Cowards and Socialists", or The Russians are underhanded cretins who have no idea what to do with freedom".

Would people here shout me down? Anything anti-American is ok. This forum is filled with children and nuts.

Would it be childish? Only if you weren't French or Russian.

We are discussing "family" business. I am a Catholic and when I am critical of the Church it is from an insider's perspective, and my criticism is because I want the Church that I love to be the best it can be; my criticism comes from love.

If I were to discuss Protestants it would be a different matter altogether.

Here is my suggestions for myself (since you asked why we don't suggest anything other than revolution)

I don't vote for status quo. No Democrats. No Republicans. I will vote for no one that owes any party or lobby anything.

I work to educate people in my community on issues.

I harass my elected representatives with letters and editorials.

I work in global relief.

I don't watch MSM or contribute to their major sponsors.

I will pay the extra money to support small businesses because they are not part of the National Socialist Corporatism that we have been hijacked by.

And that's just for starters.

And let's not have any more BS, ok? America CREATES wars in order to PROFIT from wars. And the US HAS profited from war, all the way through. Except it wets its pants at the thought of any hostilities on its own shores. And the world is well aware of that. Time Americans became aware of it

" America CREATES wars in order to PROFIT yeah right just like the battered wife asks to be hit!

Who is profiting? Who is in control?

Before you go bashing American citizens do some research please. The Fed and the bankers control this country and many others and they owe loyalty only to the International Banking Cartel.

If you get in their way they silence you like they did

EZRA POUND who was a political prisoner for thirteen and a half years at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Washington, D.C. (a Federal institution for the insane). His release was accomplished largely through the efforts of Mr. Mullins. www.apfn.org...

EUSTACE MULLINS, Who was fired, not allowed to publish and when he finally did had his books - all of them burned

G. EWARD GRIFFIN, Who was fired and black balled

Or kill you as they did Congressman McFadden, John F Kennedy and 8 other presidents.

This is two quotes from many sources showing who really runs the world and it certainly is not America or her citizens.

Q: Who owns the stock of the Federal Reserve Banks?

A: The dynastic families of the ruling World Order, internationalists who are loyal to no race, religion, or nation. They are families such as the Rothschilds, the Warburgs, the Schiffs, the Rockefellers, the Harrimans, the Morgans and others known as the elite, or "the big rich"...... www.theforbiddenknowledge.com...

Chart 1 reveals the linear connection between the Rothschilds and the Bank of England, and the London banking houses which ultimately control the Federal Reserve Banks through their stockholdings of bank stock and their subsidiary firms in New York. The two principal Rothschild representatives in New York, J. P. Morgan Co., and Kuhn,Loeb & Co. were the firms which set up the Jekyll Island Conference at which the Federal Reserve Act was drafted....

[J. P. Morgan Co., and Kuhn,Loeb & Co. were the firms] who purchased the controlling amounts of stock in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in 1914. These firms had their principal officers appointed to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and the Federal Advisory Council in 1914. In 1914 a few families (blood or business related) owning controlling stock in existing banks (such as in New York City) caused those banks to purchase controlling shares in the Federal Reserve regional banks.

Examination of the charts and text in the House Banking Committee Staff Report of August, 1976 and the current stockholders list of the 12 regional Federal Reserve Banks show this same family [in] control www.save-a-patriot.org...

Today we are seeing a repeat of the banker created crash of 1929 - 1933

The Wall Street Crash of 1929 was the beginning of a world-wide credit deflation which lasted through 1932, and from which the Western democracies did not recover until they began to rearm for the Second World War.

During this depression, the trust operators achieved further control by their backing of three international swindlers, The Van Sweringen brothers, Samuel Insull, and Ivar Kreuger. These men pyramided billions of dollars worth of securities to fantastic heights.
The bankers who promoted them and floated their stock issue could have stopped them at any time, by calling loans of less than a million dollars, but they let these men go on until they had incorporated many industrial and financial properties into holding companies, which the banks then took over for nothing

. Insull piled up public utility holdings throughout the Middle West, which the banks got for a fraction of their worth. Ivar Kreuger was backed by Lee Higginson Company, supposedly one of the nation’s most reputable banking houses. The Saturday Evening Post called him "more than a financial titan", and the English review Fortnightly said, in an article written December 1931, under the title, "A Chapter in Constructive Finance": "It is as a financial irrigator that Kreuger has become of such vital importance to Europe."*

"Financial irrigator" we may remember, was the title bestowed upon Jacob Schiff by Newsweek Magazine, when it described how Schiff had bought up American railroads with Rothschild’s money.

The Federal Reserve Board could have checked the enormous credit expansion of Insull and Kreuger by investigating the security on which their loans were being made, but the Governors never made any examination of the activities of these men.

.... if a speculator is being promoted by a reputable banking house, as Kreuger was promoted by Lee Higginson Company, the only way he could be stopped would be by an investigation of his actual financial resources, which in Kreuger’s case would have proved to be nil.

[Sounds just like the leveraged buyout feeding frenzy of the 1980's and 1990's -- in other words US citizens were set up to be fleeced by the bankers AGAIN!]

Following the secret meeting of the Federal Reserve Board and the heads of the foreign central banks in 1927, the Federal Reserve Banks in a few months doubled their holdings of Government securities and acceptances, which resulted in the exportation of five hundred million dollars in gold in that year.

"The agreement between the Bank of England and the Washington Federal Reserve authorities many months ago was that we would force the export of 725 million of gold by reducing the bank rates here, thus helping the stabilization of France and Europe and putting France on a gold basis." [ Clarence W. Barron, They Told Barron, Harpers, New York, 1930, p. 353] (April 20, 1928)

On February 6, 1929, Mr. Montagu Norman, Governor of the Bank of England, came to Washington and had a conference with Andrew Mellon, Secretary of the Treasury. Immediately after that mysterious visit, the Federal Reserve Board abruptly changed its policy and pursued a high discount rate policy, abandoning the cheap money policy which it had inaugurated in 1927 after Mr. Norman’s other visit......

During three years of "unrestrained speculation", Mr. Warburg had not seen fit to make any remarks about the condition of the Stock Exchange. A friendly organ, The New York Times, not only gave the report two columns on its editorial page, but editorially commented on the wisdom and profundity of Mr. Warburg’s observations. Mr. Warburg’s concern was genuine, for the stock market bubble had gone much farther than it had been intended to go, and the bankers feared the consequences if the people realized what was going on. When this report in The New York Times started a sudden wave of selling on the Exchange, the bankers grew panicky, and it was decided to ease the market somewhat. Accordingly, Warburg’s National City Bank rushed twenty-five million dollars in cash to the call money market, and postponed the day of the crash.

The revelation of the Federal Reserve Board’s final decision to trigger the Crash of 1929 appears, amazingly enough, in The New York Times. On April 20, 1929, the Times headlined, "Federal Advisory Council Mystery"....

Both J.P. Morgan and Kuhn, Loeb Co. had "preferred lists" of men to whom they sent advance announcements of profitable stocks. The men on these preferred lists were allowed to purchase these stocks at cost, that is, anywhere from 2 to 15 points a share less than they were sold to the public. The men on these lists were fellow bankers, prominent industrialists, powerful city politicians, national Committeemen of the Republican and Democratic Parties, and rulers of foreign countries. The men on these lists were notified of the coming crash,....

Predictably enough, all of the big bankers rode through the depression "with flying colors." The people who suffered were the workers and farmers who had invested their money in get-rich stocks, after the President of the United States, Calvin Coolidge, and the Secretary of the Treasury, Andrew Mellon, had persuaded them to do it.

There had been some warnings of the approaching crash in England, which American newspapers never saw. The London Statist on May 25, 1929 said:

"The banking authorities in the United States apparently want a business panic to curb speculation."

The London Economist on May 11, 1929, said:

"The events of the past year have seen the beginnings of a new technique, which, if maintained and developed, may succeed in ‘rationing the speculator without injuring the trader.’"

Governor Charles S. Hamlin quoted this statement at the Senate hearings in 1931 and said, in corroboration of it:
"That was the feeling of certain members of the Board, to remove Federal Reserve credit from the speculator without injuring the trader." "

Governor Hamlin did not bother to point out that the "speculators" he was out to break were the school-teachers and small town merchants who had put their savings into the stock market, or that the "traders" he was trying to protect were the big Wall Street operators, Bernard Baruch and Paul Warburg.

Dear OP, whilst your thread title may be true for many, I believe American ATS's contain a far higher rate of awake, aware people than the general American population. Will YOU step up to the plate Jaxon Roberts?

You are preaching to the choir here on ATS. Tell me, would YOU be non-lazy enough to transfer your thread title to a T-shirt, and walk around America with it? You will be reaching an extremely large audience, and those for whom it is true. Picture your thread title on the back of your shirt: "Americans are Ignorant, Lazy, Gutless Cowards who live in fear" Would you be afraid to wear this shirt? Would YOU have the guts to put this out in your daily PHYSICAL (not cyber) life? Will you walk the walk or talk the talk, because at the moment you are talking.

Its easy to point fingers and call names, but how about taking a look at your own people and governments? I guess you guys are all on the ball, Americans are the only people with shortcomings and problems, or who can be distracted by entertainment?

Why don't we ever hear such criticisms of other country's people? This thread was an insult to the people of America, not its government. But why don't we ever hear such criticisms of other people? Could it be that all other people of the world are much smarter, physically fit, knowledgeable and active in their gov. policies?? I don't think so.

Yes, why is it so biased here on ATS. No matter who starts a thread that insults Americans it gets a # load of praise and attention. I want to know why?

Could someone please explain to me why people love to hate Americans here?

People in many parts of this world are mass murdering their own citizens, these people I guess, are ok, no problems there. No other people of the world are worthy of criticism? Ridiculous.

I guess all other people of other governments aren't allowing their governments do questionable things or form questionable policies? Everyone else besides Americans are "awake".

I personally believe the reason why everyone loves to hate Americans is because of jealousy. I have no idea what they're jealous about, but they are. To me this thread is completely ignorant and hypocritical.
