ok, if we're at r104 now there goes the theory that its a % needed to reach the next clue. it's definitely not unique visitors or page views...could be inbound links still but that doesn't have anything to do with actual traffic stats.

Why is Google still not showing referral links to this site?

it takes a while for google to start showing inbound links to any site...they only update that information on a monthly - bi-monthly basis.

you can put in links:www.thefinalanswertoeverything.com... in google to see how many other sites are linking to that site...but again, that information is usually updated on a monthly to bi-monthly type of basis.

I just restarted the game from scrarch again.

I only removed the seeker cookie.

It all worked out okay.

But get this, the "seeker" cookie expires on Thursday, July 27, 2006 2:12:34 AM

Is everyone else still at seeker = 32?

Same question. And the counter hit r104, so the "expected number" wasn't 100 or 101.

Looks like we're at R104!

Has anybody posted this on Fark.com yet? It would definitely fit their niche, and they get millions of hits a day...

I'd post it, but I'm not a member. It would help of we could find someone that subscribes to TotalFark, their links almost always get posted.

Check some of the post times on those posts. Some are at the exact same time, some are a second or two apart. The ones that are more than 30 seconds or so are another story.

So, can it be the answer lies in there.

The creators of the site are tracking something:

Google Analytics' urchinTracker allows you to track events on your site that do not generate a pageview. Using the urchinTracker JavaScript, you can assign a specific page filename to Flash events, JavaScript events, file downloads, outbound links, and more.

Source

The question is what are they tracking and why?

We know it is not pageviews.

Someone updated the blog:

Quick update
I received more than one e-mail advising people to try the following:
q_whatisthetraffictarget

The sender also indicated there are many more "q_" responses than have been posted.

answer: if the questions pause at 31 with a "level error" then there have not been enough unique referring websites sending visitors to www.thefinalanswertoeverything.com

Keep asking questions guys

I keep coming back to these parts of the riddle (if it is the actual riddle):

distribute this site URL far and wide
the result of spreading the URL

Maybe it has to do with spacing of the url as the answer i.e. far, wide, spreading....but I come up with errors when trying varios spacing of the URL as an answer. Tough riddle.

I was dead on. You can call me Money.

I'm starting a tinwiki for this but I have never created a wiki entry before so I'm terrible with the formatting. I'll create a quick stub and put the answers in it if someone else will go in and format it.

tinwiki.org...

Someone add the q_ phrases we can use and anything else you can think of. This will prevent a lot of the "please catch me up" questions.
