Okay.

I'm just voicing my opinion on the topic.

You're free to voice yours.

I'm not going to go into "debate".

If you want to stock up, think this is end-of-the-world then that's all on you. Not saying that's how you think, but just saying.

I just have a different opinion.

I think the sooner people get the virus and get over it the better. I hope people build up and immunity to it.

Is this what happens? Once you've recovered, the CV-19 can't infect you again the next week?

Apparently yes, it's happened numerous times, if the reports are to be believed.

Let's all calm down, act like adults and carry on. Let's treat this seriously, but rationally.

Everyone I interact with has the same mindset, however it's the ones that panic that cause frenzies. Here in Vegas hand sanitizer is completely unavailable. TP is almost out, and water is coming back into stock, but being sold out as fast it's brought in, at least at the wholesale stores. Local markets have introduced a limit per customer to lessen it, but realistically once the news broke on Thursday that there was a patient in southern NV, people freaked out.

It only takes one person to panic and you have a frenzy. That can be cited here on this site, a member said he noticed another shopper with a loaded cart of supplies so they also decided to stockpile.

It's a pandemic indeed, but that word isn't as scary as it sounds. People will get sick, people will die, but that's the case with any viral infection. So far the wu-flu has been a misnomer in its possibilities, people are making this out to be the next spanish-flu, and that's completely ignorant.

Speaking of ignorance, I also saw a thread that said washing your hands does nothing to combat the virus, and as a non-professional medical advisor I can say that is a blatant lie, wash your hands people. You should be doing that on a regular basis, but now you should do it before you touch your face or your private parts (yeah nobody wanted to say that one, but wash up before masturbation).

It's amazing how a few panicked people can cause a supply shortage, but it sure as shlt happened here in Las Vegas.

Greetings all. I won't linger but, I came back to ATS where some brilliant minds are to help out on this subject. Be well and do good things.

So as the news gets more dire

Remember to use your calm down techniques like 1. Belly Breathing 2. Positive self talk and 3. Count to 10.

See you around here

The media has politicized this and made it more than it might be.

HA! Noted for when I’m dead. MSM and politics have no bearing in this beast.

BUT. Uncle Sam’s health practitioners ought to.

You should almost be ashamed as 10M Italians go into quarantine. I’ll wait for Tucker or Hannity to make it okay here. In the meantime, this whiskey shot is for you amigo.

Then we have to close the borders and test/treat every human in the USA. It's the only way to be sure!

It seems our antibodies have a hard time with the virus, since well ya know it’s a novel virus, and our antibodies are not sure what parts of the rapidly mutating virus to target.

This is not true. CNN just voiced their disappointment that Trump/Pence didn't get infected.

We've handled this so poorly that other countries, like Israel, are considering quarantining any Americans from our hardest hit states today for 14 days to travel there.

What's not true? The handshake happened after the chairman interacted with the coronavirus patient. Sorry. Not saying Trump and Pence have it. I hope they don't. They would have infected a lot of other important people over the past week or so if they do. But yes, it happened. Hope you are well.

Calm, but cautious. The virus itself doesn't worry me, I'll either get it or not, and I'll either live through it (highly likely) or not. The reactions of the general public to the situation however do concern me. It's the main reason that I keep several months of food on hand, aside from a possible job loss situation (most likely). It's also the reason I went out 3 weeks back and stocked up on a few things I wouldn't normally buy such as hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, N95 masks, etc. Because I had an understanding of how the general public would react, and my thought process was "what if I need these things and they are not available"?

I agree folks should calm down, but it's understandable why they don't. It's an unknown aspect that most have not experienced in their lives, it's a thought process they haven't had to go through before. They haven't gone through a risk assessment of their own and their families needs, which I do think people should go through more often, prevents the panic mindset from happening. Hopefully folks don't get desperate during this situation and it goes over like the regular flu season.

I do hope that if we learn one lesson from this however, it is to not manufacture everything in a single country. Single points of failure are unacceptable risks, particularly for those things that are required for society to function on its normal path.

It's too late for that, the virus is in U.S.
read this

Italy has 16 million people quarantined, if this virus takes off in the U.S then you will know soon enough.

Depends on when the hand-washing occurred.

Food to last months. No TP? Big friggin whoppdeedoo. 100% we will not lose power or water to this overhyped doom porn so I really don't understand the freak out about it. It WILL suck for people, who, because of this mess will miss work and not be able to pay their month to month bills, such as us. I'm also not buying into "WHOSE FAULT IS THIS! WE NEED TO LAY BLAME SOME WHERE" because how do you correctly plan for this? How do you lock down an entire country without ruining the economy and people lives who won't be able to pay next months rent because of it. It's a mess.

Thanks so much for addressing this flu dilemma. I needed this.

I have been hospitalized with the flu and pneumonia almost every year and I am old and not very healthy. My mother is 86 and never gets the flu. However, I can't stand to feel vulnerable and manipulated. I have not over-shopped nor totally bought into all the frenzy.

But here in Florida there are 2 deaths out of 8 cases of the virus. Not good statistics.

Then yesterday, my pharmacist called and offered antibacterial wash, gloves and N95 masks they specially ordered for certain customers. I did not say no as they were a gift.

Putting this all together - what to think? Help, DB. I've been an admirer for years and years. Struggling. And thanks so much for being here.

It's not too late to stop all inflow of humans into the US and and test/treat every one here. Then you don't reopen the borders to inbound traffic until after a vaccine is available. This thing is too deadly to take any chances!
