Can we put the Wu-flu into perspective?

It is something serious. But like I stated in another thread, it's not an end-of-the-world serious.

We're nearing the end of the regular flu season.

A season where 18,000 people died WITH an available vaccine.

And no one bats an eye.

Hell, many threads on anti-vaccinations are on this site. I don't get the vaccine.

This is a novel virus. There is no vaccine.

So wash your hands, cough into your sleeve. If you're sick? Stay at home.

The last few days I've been working from home because I've caught a nasty cold and I work in a hospital so I didn't want to freak people out.

Now I'll be in work tomorrow to check on Power Charting and time change issues because of Daylight Savings Time, but I'm also feeling a little better.

This is the flu. A new flu, but the flu all the same.

I am not stockpiling on water, toilet paper, or rice and canned meat.

I did stock up on scotch, vodka, wine, and beer but that's because I'm an aging booze hound and it was a Friday.

I won't tell people not to stock up, but you're wasting a perfectly good worry on what (in my opinion) is a minor issue.

Let's all calm down, act like adults and carry on. Let's treat this seriously, but rationally.

Agreed. Survival isn't contingent on that pack of toilet paper you're fighting old ladies for.

In the Apocalypse, a clean anus trumps all else. I believe it was foretold in the Book of Revelations... The seldom mentioned Fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse rode a streaked horse and brought with him "the itch."

I'm with you. However, it has become apparent that governments have decided to implement particular practices that it would appear must be adhered to. So it is possible that while I intend to live my life as I see fit in this regard, I may in fact be coerced by the government to change that lifestyle.for example, I fully intend to drive down to Florida for spring break in April. Will the government decide I may not? Will the government decide I must stay home for two weeks? What if I don't have enough at home for a two week stay?
I'm afraid we are not at liberty to come and go as we please during this time of covid 19.

There's no fun in that. We're all tired of politics too. The site needs a shot of doom porn to pick things up IMVHO.

Have you noticed all the recent UFO threads?

And you ... ya old man ... you're very likely gonna die from this 'cold' you've picked up. Does your hospital have a COVID-19 test kit to use on you? No? Then you _don't_ have it. See?

I took my youngest daughter out to eat after her volleyball tournament today. We went to a buffet and they had the news on 3 of their televisions. They were all talking about the coronavirus. In a stroke of pure luck, I took a drink of iced tea and it went down the wrong pipe. This lead to a 10 second fit of coughing every few seconds to catch my breath. When I glanced up, the whole place was staring at me. Yeah..I imagine some people won't be back to a buffet anytime soon.

It's one extreme or the other on this topic like all. End of the world or nothing at all.

Italy just quarantined 16 million, 1/4 the country, including the financial district.

Maybe this isn't a super killer, but it's looking like many places are taking extreme measures. I personally haven't made any day to day changes or keeping anything more than a week out. But I can't blame anyone for doing it given how some places are reacting.

A CT scan can be used to show shadows in the lungs that might be an indication of the virus.

It is a diagnostic tool.

Yes.

I visited several stores today, touching door knobs willy-nilly all the while.
I defy the corona virus!

It's a new flu.

Imagine if we didn't have the vaccine for the seasonal flu.

The patterns, deaths, infection rates might be very similar.

Acting like an 'adult' = being prepared.

Doesn't mean you have to 'freak out' or buy 100 lbs a butt paper.

It means using due diligence and educating yourself on where your medication is made and are you going to be able to buy more tomorrow, next week, next month. Right down to aspirin.

It means evaluating your necessities and are they going to be readily available in a 'crisis'.

Taking one day and writing down - EVERYTHING - you consumed/needed in that 24 hour period and then asking yourself, as an adult, what would I do if I couldn't get my hands on THESE THINGS I NEED?

Then, acting on it.

I would never presume to tell people not to stock up.

Just think it through rationally.

Give it another month. People are already fighting over toilet paper, I don’t think we have seen anything yet. I am calm and being an adult writing that sentence. 👍

Okay.

I think, in a month, this will be better.

If I said it a month ago, then I was wrong.

If you'll show me the thread, I'll write an apology.

I am calm DC.

I had a few moments over that past several weeks. I bought my rice, tp, another preps. I've been meaning to anyways.

I am not calm because the president told me to be, or because someone on the internet or FB tells me the flu numbers an compares the two.

I am calm because I have a lot of work to do and I am ready for spring around here. Working ok on my vehicles and getting my new camper ready, is taking over my time that I would be worrying about how we are all a bunch of ignorant idiots saying it isn't that bad, even though China shut down and quarantined millions, South Korea shut many places down and quarantined hundreds of thousands, Italy shut down cities and now will arrest anyone if they break quarantine, or the other countries taking drastic measures to help curb the spread of this "not so big deal" virus". Because we are Americans and our leaders say it isn't a big deal, you know, like the rest of the world.(sarc)

I am to the point where if it does get bad, then oh well, and if it doesn't get bad, then oh well.

If it gets bad I do not want to hear from any of the naysayers about anything at all. If it isn't that bad then I will say nothing at all.

Let's just get the damned ball rolling already and get sick or not. I got a heater core to put in my camaro, a gas tank and fuel pump assembly to put in my truck, and front rake rotors and brake pads to put on my van.

It's all good here in the land of Lincoln.
