like, all I said was I was going to my mother in laws and father in laws on the 24 and 25. Now, my mother is spouting all over facebook about 'how she can no longer see her granddaughter'. Because somehow having plans for two days for family visiting for xmas is somehow saying 'you can no longer see your grand child'. :|

Dramatic.....

In all honesty just talk to her and work it out! You'll all be fine 👍

Best wishes.

I gets tough when you get married and start a family of your own.

Parents have to realize they're now sharing you with your SO's family too. Sometimes, that's a hard realization, and when both families absolutely insist on celebrating major holidays on *the* day, it gets even harder.

I was lucky. When I was growing up, my folks' families had sorted it out. We went to visit dad's side of the family on one of the two big holidays every year since they celebrated on the day all the time. And we would either celebrate with mom's on the day or off the day and thus, saw them for both major holidays.

But that was because mom's family had decided that it was far more important to get together than it was to celebrate on *the* day.

It seems to me like you are going to have to have a talk with your mother about how your family and your SO's family are going to trade off, or maybe your family can do what my mom's did and decide that being together is more important than celebrating on *the* day.

If you made plans for those days, then you have plans.

This is a discussion for how to go forward in years coming.

This is an actual transcript of a phone call that took place less than a week ago.

ME: So our son is doing great on the piano and is having his first recital in a month!

MY MOM: He needs my grand piano. We don't play it any more.

ME: The house we're building doesn't have plans for a piano room mom.

MY MOM: So you don't want your son to excel at a talent?

ME: Fine. We'll take the piano.

MY MOM: So you want me to die so you can have our stuff?

ME: *blood starts shooting from my eyes*

We are not sentimental about xmas in the religious way,but it is a family day.My oldest gal and her twins,my dear lil grandbabies, luckily live just up the road,so she can easily divvy up the day between us and her parents in law, with whom she,her hubby and kids live.My youngest gal is spending xmas in the provincial capital with her boyfriend and his family but they will prolly come visit for an hour or two.Yes your mom is being over dramatic..but it's out of love and wanting to spend the day with y'all, don't be angry with her.But have a loving talk with her and discuss it.It's from love and being needy, idk but i don't think she is being malicious, just very emotionally needy.Xmas is so hyped up in the minds of people in the Western world, you know.

Even if you are going to celebrate religiously, it's not like everyone who came the nativity did so on exactly the day of Christ's birth, so I think God will forgive if you don't celebrate on Dec. 25, especially since Jesus wasn't born on that day anyhow. It's just the day conveniently set aside when we all recognize the event.

So you can pick up your Bible and read the Christmas story out of it and other such things on other days just as easily.

My mother is ridiculously dramatic that way, so I fixed the issue. I moved all the way across the country so nobody sees anybody. Actually, my kids are grown now, and I don't fly, so no more issues about seeing anybody.
