I'm ashamed that I don't speak Spanish better (espcially since my Mom spoke 4 languages fluently and my daughter three).
Considering that this nation is unlike any other in that it was designed to welcome people of all colors, religions and languages, I find it hilarious when people complain about having to "push 1 for English", or have to read a sign that has two or more languages.
Why do you so strongly believe that law-abiding American citizens deserve less consideration than illegal immigrants?
I don't know how an economy can survive like this. And with the latest actions on Illegal Immigration I think now is the final tipping point. As an L.A. Native born and raised, I barely recognize this city, this State. I only wish I had the funds to document it and make a film but I'm too busy with my own survival.
I'd like to know too. Millions of Americans would like to know.
The point is that it was never necessary as all our immigrants learned and spoke the language of the land.
It wasn't until many years of ILLEGAL immigrants coming here by the millions things were changed.
I would never go to a foreign Country and expect them to change for me and other people like me.
It is one group being catered to.
No. We are simply providing needed services based on demand. There are many Mexican people in this country and we make sure we provide what is needed so that we can communicate.

Oh really? Then why are factories and other jobs that have nothing to do with speaking a foreign language have to speak Spanish in order to get that job?
We have plenty of Africans and Asians around here as well. I don't see them being catered to.
We have had plenty of Mexican and other Spanish speakers here for a very long time and never had to press one to hear English.
People with different languages have always been coming to this country without knowing how to speak English. Asians, Mexicans, Italians, Africans, Bosnians.....etc.
We have always been flexible to help people assimilate in to our country. Over time, many of those groups did so quite well. The current up and coming generation of Mexicans are doing the same. They know the English language and are doing just fine.
This is just a guess here, but possibly because a majority of the workers primarily speak Spanish and being able to speak it as well would greatly increase your ability to work with your peers. I don't recall it being illegal for a business to have language restrictions in its job hiring process even if the job doesn't call for it.

Let me ask you something...Would you move to another Country and expect their citizens to speak YOUR language because you and a bunch of your English speaking buddies happen to work their? That is unbelievable! Do you think the citizens of that Country that have to work with you would respect you for that? It is not up to the damned citizens of that Country to cater to you. It is up to you to respect the Country you chose to move to!
It doesn't matter if it is legal or not for a business to force such a policy of speaking a foreign language to get a damned job there, it is wrong, unfair, a slap in the face, rude, ignorant and a hell of an insult to its citizens.
