The Israeli military has responded with air strikes across the Gaza Strip after militants launched rockets from the Palestinian enclave at the end of a 72-hour ceasefire.
‘‘The renewed rocket attacks by terrorists at Israel are unacceptable, intolerable and shortsighted. Hamas's bad decision to breach the ceasefire will be pursued by the IDF [Israel Defence Forces], we will continue to strike Hamas, its infrastructure, its operatives and restore security for the State of Israel,’’ Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Lerner, an Israeli military spokesman said.

Once Hamas upped the ante and directed rocket fire towards Israel's nuclear reactor in Tel Aviv, a line has been crossed where Israel is left with no alternative than to finish this.
Israel's "defense shield" uses an at or near state of the art missiles system. Hugely expensive when compared to unguided rockets employed by Hamas. Hamas' rockets are controlled by basically pointing them and range, perhaps, by how much fuel is in each rocket.
One Hamas rocket intercepted by an Israeli missile is a financial victory for Hamas.
One hit on Israel's nuclear plant, potentially, creates another Chernobyl...read that uninhabitable...for Israeli's AND Palestinians.
Two rockets were successfully intercepted heading to that reactor. The defensive shield is 90% effective, apparently.
What would happen if Hamas used T.O.T. technology? What if Hamas fires 20, or even 30 rockets all timed to arrive on target-the nuclear plant-at or near the same time?
The defensive system is overwhelmed and a hit in now probable.
An uninhabitable region, which probably includes Gaza, is just further proof that Hamas has zero interest in the Palestinian cause. Their stated goal is the extermination of Israel...at any cost and that includes Gaza.
Bottom line is Israel has no other option except the full eradication of Hamas AND ensuring it cannot occur again some time in the future.

That line of reasoning is called Genocide
It won't be over until one side surrenders.

Terrorists, freedom fighters, who give a sh!t?
One side is fighting another side.
Some on this site want one side to win.
Others want another side to win.
YAY.
While we're fighting a war of words and snark, people are dying. People always die in war. The sooner it ends, the sooner that people will stop dying.

This has turned into a PR nightmare for israel, they could have simply sat back and let the fact that the "missiles" used against them are wholly ineffective, and the dome shooting down a fair amount of them protect them.
All the while they could have really demonized hamas and taken the moral high ground.
But some animals are bloodthirsty and I truly believe nitwityahoo has gone mad.
So...innocents die and weapons contracts get fulfilled...
The rogue state of israel could have turned this into an actual victim case for themselves all the while taking none to almost no casualties.
