There were about 650 people on the island, everyone in Norway have a mobile phone (we are rich and even kids 7-9 get phones now), and witnesses say they called the police when the shootings started, many have claimed this in interviews.

agree to a point, but any MAN with a gun could have taken this guy down with a little good sense and some tactics...there is a serious lack of training there somewhere...as well as balls

The video I posted sais that he took the ferry over to the island and the woman Monica on the same ferry became suspcious and walked up to the house you see on the hill above the bridge and warned the off duty cop/security officer on the island. Breivik shot them both with his M14 and dumdum bullets.
Here is another video showing the SWAT team arriving to the isalnd and the first youths running towards them in horror. I think you can hear some gunfire in the background during the first seconds of the movie.

Hmmm. I'll have to re-read the article I flagged that was slightly different than this account. Not terrilby different though. I have it on another computer.
Breivik raised suspicions again moments prior to his shooting spree at Utoya, The Times reported.
The woman in charge of organising the island camp became apprehensive after going to pick him up from the mainland in a boat. When the boat arrived at Utoya she took him to the police officer stationed on the island. Breivik shot both of them dead.

One radio story this morning said police didnt respond right away because they didnt have any body armor or the proper weapons...uh-huh...chicken-sh*t sounds more like the truth...that or under orders to stand by and wait...Amerian police now attend active shooter training that advocates the first officers go in and eliminate the threat in order to save as many lives as possible....a with any major 'event" there will be conflicting stories but something here isnt right in the authorities stories

In that Swat Arrives video, I see police (SWAT) hiding behind the van and children arriving. ...
Anyway, they waited until he, Brave Rick, run out of ammo and surrendered, thus continuing his mission alive.
Some people hoped he was killed, but no. How many bullets did the police fire at him? That would be an interesting count. Let me guess - zero?
