Sen. Colburn's annual 'Waste Book Report' is out today.
Take a looooooong look at what your tax money used for. :shk:
Kinda makes a person want to
, doesn't it?
And yet many in DC still want to raise taxes on us.
Hey .. how about ya'll in DC cut out the bull you-know-what spending and LOWER our taxes!?!?
Then we could pay for programs that are needed (like education, military, and health care)!!

$823,200 to study genitalia washing in South Africa

$175 million to maintain an unused monkey house. $1.8 million for a museum dedicated to old Las Vegas signs. $615,000 to digitize a Grateful Dead collection. And $823,200 to study genitalia washing in South Africa. Those are just some of the projects that Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) uses as examples of government waste in his annual “Wastebook” report released today.

The Hill

Projects identified by Coburn include $1.8 million in spending this past year to gather and display historic Las Vegas casino signs, as well as $165,000 to the University of California at Santa Cruz to help its library digitize its collection of Grateful Dead materials.

Waste? It's ugly but pales in comparison to this..

costofwar.com...

Tell me again who was responsible for this largest of all boon doggles?

Curious that I didn't see any waste and fraud from the military/ind complex listed by Colburn; also paid for by taxpayer dollars.

Perhaps his ideology got in the way of his common sense, a common affliction of those with an agenda.

1 and a quarter Trillion dollars and we still haven't gotten Bin laden.
Classic definition of failure.
I say make Bush and Cheney pay for it, them and all the Congressional cronies.

I wonder if these examples of spending are really just a cover to conceal where the money is REALLY being spent...

If one wishes to conceal spending, just make up something SO ridiculous, SO amazingly pathetic, and now you have a LEGITIMATE and believable cover that folks just have to BELIEVE. But in reality, I bet the money is going into areas that would make peoples HEADS EXPLODE with red-hot ANGER.

Thats what I bet...

Here's one I'll bet that Sen. Colburn conveniently over looked.

www.rawstory.com...

The hypocrisy is simply astonishing!

A new documentary coming out in later 2012 - Museum of Government Waste
Youtube trailer for the documentary Museum of Government Waste

Description quoted from the trailer: "Museum of Government Waste is an eye-opening and entertaining look at federal government spending through the eyes of an average American. Like the rest of us, 40-year-old Floridian Greg Knapp is concerned about his children's future in a country saddled with unprecedented national debt. But unlike the rest of us, Greg decides to head to Washington to find out how and why our federal government is spending our country into financial ruin. Once in DC, Greg learns that as a regular citizen he has no access inside the Beltway, so he decides to play the Washington game. He hires a lobbyist and goes after his own piece of wasteful pork -- an earmark for a Museum of Government Waste.

Neither Greg nor the audience ever expects Greg to get his ridiculous earmark, but we understand this is the only way we can truly see what's taking place in our nation's Capitol. Greg's journey takes him across the country, inside the offices of high-profile lobbyists, and, eventually, behind closed doors at a fundraiser for one of the most powerful politicians on Capitol Hill. In what begins as a humorous attempt to get the ultimate anti-earmark earmark, Greg's quest becomes increasingly serious as he realizes that the American political process is in worse shape than he ever dreamed, and that he just might get his earmark after all. Museum of Government Waste is not only a funny and entertaining ride, but is sure to make even the most jaded citizen furious."

A Kickstarter fund for the documentary here.

A news article here.

Quote from the above article: "James O'Keefe has proven that on numerous occasions, starting when he and Hannah Giles posed as a pimp and a prostitute and got officials of the community activist group ACORN to give advice on how to set up a sex slave trafficking business and a child brothel while recording it with a hidden camera."

Find more related posts on Ats about government waste using the search.

Lastly, what other resources are there for learning about the kind of waste described here? I'm looking for more books, websites, links, etc.
