Kerry to visit Ukraine on Tuesday in show of support following Russian seizure

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will travel to Kiev, Ukraine, on Tuesday to stress American political and economic support after Russian forces' bloodless seizure of Ukraine's Crimea region, a senior U.S. official said on Sunday.

Kerry on Sunday threatened a range of economic sanctions against Russia if it did not roll back its takeover of the peninsula.

"You just don't in the 21st century behave in 19th century fashion by invading another country on completely trumped up pretext," the secretary said in an interview on CBS News.

Calling Russia's move ''an incredible act of aggression,'' Kerry urged Putin to seek diplomatic solutions to his concerns in Ukraine. While stating the U.S. has no interestin 'returning to the Cold War, the secretary issued repeated threats of "repercussions" if Russia didn't lay off Crimea and Ukraine. "American businesses may well want to start thinking twice whether they want to do business with a country that behaves like this," he said.

We can all relax, Obama is sending in Kerry...

*Waits for the laughs and snickers to quiet down..

I thought I'd pop in and post this. I dunno, I seriously hope cooler heads on all sides prevail and we can all relax and go back to watching Honey Boo Boo The Walking Dead in peace.

I'm not really a doomporn kind of guy and try to see the bright side of things most of the time. But this whole situation has me kind of scared. This very well could snowball into something indescribably horrific. It makes me sad.

I second that. This generation has no idea of what it was like to live in the Cold War and having to live with the probability of being nuked. I never did like Putin. He is a nasty piece of work and a very dangerous man too. I will be glad when he finally goes and perhaps then Russia will get back some of the freedom it had after the fall of the USSR. I am saddened that the Russian people do not see how much of a threat Putin is to his own people.

Now I fear that we may very well see something turning very nasty indeed that will affect the whole world. And all because of oil and gas and greed.

It's a done deal. It's already over.

No doom porn.
No WW III.
This is what Russia gets.

It gets to rebuild it's empire. Obama could care less. Let the next president fight the Cold War!

Nothing will happen. Not even sabre rattling. More like golf clubs rattling than anything else.

Russia gets Crimea. Maybe Ukraine. The US is not going to lift a finger.

Sending Neville Chaimberlain I mean, Kerry, won't amount to a hill of beans.

"You just don't invade another country on phony pretext in order to assert your interests,” John Kerry said during an interview with NBC.
In other words, the pretext has to be really, really phony..WTF writes this stuff it's a GAS!

Never liked or listened to Kerry, and I especially don't care for the guy when he more or less said 'global warming' is the greatest threat we face.

The events in Ukraine show the entire world what the real deal is.

As long as someone has something somebody else wants ?

We will always see the 'Ukraines'.

Between Obamas grass Roots campaign in Illinois and Kerry's 3 purple hearts, we are in good hands...

After all, Obama told Ukraine that if they want to keep their territorial integrity and sovereign status, they could....

/end sarcasm...

When it comes to Foreign Policy , Obama and the Democraps remind me of that kid we all knew in School that would get Wedgied or Beat Up by just about everyone in his Class because he was just such a Wuess about everything he tried to do . Seems Liberals make terrible Political Leaders when it comes to Walking Lighty and Carrying a Big Stick in the Face of your potential Enemies .

Good, there is no need for us to get involved in any way. Our American service men are more valuable than the need for the media to stir the pot and sell headlines.

I agree with you 100 percent about Kerry keeping his butt in the states and his mouth shut. Really, what good does that do besides possibly cause trouble and drag us in.

I didn't vote Obama but on this issue I like him keeping his mouth shut like a man who knows how to avoid unnecessary drama. It's fun to watch war hawks whine and shrivel up like the witch in wizard of oz when they don't get some blood spillage from their young country men and women.
