Hi All,

I have a question about avatars, and I decided to post my question in this thread first.

What happens if two ATS members have a dispute over the same avatar?
Has this ever happened?

Let me give you an example of what I mean.

I have been looking through the old "Avatar Creations" thread here on ATS.
Sometimes, the avatar creators would post great avatars, but by reading the thread, it looks like nobody claimed these great avatars.

So, let's say I see a great avatar that I like, and to me, it looks like nobody claimed the avatar that was posted by the avatar creator.
But let's say, unbeknownst to me, someone else DID in fact also download the avatar, and is now using it as their identity here on ATS.

If I start using the same avatar, and the other ATS member sees that, could that cause problems? Could that cause a dispute?
Has this ever happened in the past?

Who will then be the rightful owner of the avatar in question?

I have to ask these questions, because I have seen some beautiful avatars that nobody has claimed, by the looks of it, and I want to start using some of these avatars in some of my threads.

Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

i have seen many people use the same avatar as others. Slayer has one that looks like a video game version of a soldier that i have seen others use as well.

Its a free country, right? Dispute resolution should be handled with polite discourse and agreement.

If you find one you like, post it in this thread first and someone here will likely know if it is in use by someone else.

Thanks, I have an outfit similar to that one I wear when I go shooting, so it seemed to fit

Just to weigh in as a non-artist, but background/avatar wearing member. Several of my avatars I have gotten from the web as google images, etc. Naturally these are available for everyone. I have some that I have noted others using, personally if I see this, I just stop using it and delete it from my uploads. I like to change my look frequently, so I am not attached to any one particular look.

With over a quarter million members, there's bound to be some crossovers of avatar work. While I personally think it is common courtesy to ask the original creator to use his/her works as your avatar, or at least give them credit for their work, the older avatars that aren't used are pretty much fair game.

Besides, it's pretty well why this thread exists. People can come in and get something completely unique that is 'them,' so even if you find something someone else already has, then it can be brought here and tweaked until it is something that is just for you.

another girl and I go shooting once a month and we tend to wear boots, camo pants, and the leather bomber jackets, tends to get most of the guys all hot n bothered, and we just giggle a lot at it, it's the one time a month we can actually kick back and enjoy ourselves..

I've never have seen two EXACT matches. I have several I like to rotate through, so it's not a problem, really. If someone had the same as I, I'd simply change clothes.

There's simply too many unique avatars to ever use someone else's!

I thought this was cool. I found this template. (Yes I know I'm a nerd )
