I agree that something smells fishy about this story, but who knows what that may be. Having to do with Benghazi? Possibly. Benghazi could have been an intelligence failure for all we know, and the responsibility could have been Patraeus's fault for all we know. Am I saying that is definitely the case? No. But all the speculation is just on-line onanism.

As for throwing people under the bus, presidential administrations typically/traditionally re-arrange management and often have first-term cabinet members and other high-level officials resign and promote others or bring in new blood. To claim it is throwing people under the bus is just the usual attempt to portray Obama as being guilty of scandals and intrigues and trying to cover them up. When you find an actual scandal and can connect someone with falling onto his/her sword for it, then get back to us. Otherwise it's just lame conspiratorial nonsense.

Considerable interest should be given to whoever is replacing Petraeus as well.

edit

notice how this story was released late on a Friday afternoon preceding a 3 day weekend...

I suspect that Obama did a "J. Edgar Hoover" on Petraeus more than a year ago. Hoover collected dirt on people to be used -- just in case.

Making Petraeus head of the CIA was a way of containing him.

Petraeus was expected to play ball with Obama -- say what Obama wanted him to say in public -- or else.

Petraeus resigned and made the affair public to circumvent Obama's threat of blackmail.

Petraeus couldn't get out of there fast enough.

You bet this was about Benghazi.

Let's hope Petraeus doesn't have an "accident."

We will see what unfolds.

What if it was just a man resigning due to getting caught having an affair? Why do people need to blow this up into something more than what it is? I get that this is ATS, but come on people... Affairs have been known to kill public figures, politicians and now military personnel's careers. If you can't be trusted in your own household, how are you suppose to be trusted with some of the most highly classified information in the US Govt???

Wishful thinking.

Great Post
Now we are getting somewhere...
General P. SHOULD have controlled himself KNOWING the repercussions.
With that said, women can be very seductive, the stress of the job being released
in a "filthy" sneaky way" Not so sneaky is a very hard temptation to pass on, especially
if your already having marital problems... He screwed up, they set him up,
it was a trap, and now Obama and admin get away
with murder AGAIN (f&f), Obama gave these guys in Benghazi up as sacrificial lambs, a 7 hours fire fight these guys held of
100-200 men and they couldn't get ANY help NO WHERE? Bull crap. Maybe if it was a 5 min fire fight
but 7 hours? These people are CRAZY

I'm beginning to think that there is more here then even we think.

Petraeus is clearly tired of war, and dealing with loss of lives under his command. He made that clear when he wanted to step down from the Army (not in those words but pretty much said them)

Fast forward to current events. Along the boarder with Mexico we've been having some major issues:
Back in August: Is Mexico Becomming the New Iraq for American Agents? (from CNN)

The news emerging from Mexico on August 24, 2012, sounded more like a spy thriller than the usual reports of shootings, body dumps, and decapitations. Initial reports were foggy, but it was sounding more and more like two Americans assigned to the US Embassy had been ambushed by criminals while on their way to a Mexican naval training base

Is it possible that a war with Mexico could happen? If so then it could explain him wanting to leave the CIA in a way that would make getting him back impossible (which this does do)

While not a complete theory (I'm still going over his book on Counterinsurgency Tactics to see if there is any ideas into his mind) it is possible that a new war could be in the future, and this war might be too much for him to deal with (I'm not saying the guy's weak, but I am saying that maybe he feels that he's seen enough war) Just a passing thought.

Just watched Real Time.

Liberals WANT their heads in the sand.

They STILL think it was about the stupid movie and that is the END of it as far as they are concerned.
They've taken their placebo and want to move on.

It's kinda disgusting me. The media is not informing people. When conservatives TRY to talk about it - they come out tripping over their tongues and act like

Unh uh...something happend there, 4 Americans died.

Yeah idiots, we KNOW that. The psyops is working REALLY well. REALLY really well.

Im flipping through CNN, MSNBC, and FOX and they're all saying he resigned because of an affair.

I wonder why he would leave just because of that? Did he just want to get it out there before someone catches him and makes a big story about it? Or maybe there's another reason?

I think this is a cover so he won't have to testify. I heard something about it just a bit ago on talk radio, and someone was saying that he may be excused from testimony to deal with this personal issue. So what I think is that he is using this as a reason not to divulge some kind of information, and it may be related to the Prez or some kind of secretive thing. Strange stuff going on these days including secret meetings Valerie Jarrett is having with Iranian leaders.

Admittedly there is obvious misinformation happening with regards to Petraeus and Benghazi, and maybe I'm missing something, but how are these two events directly linked? He could be resigning for any number of reasons, but why Benghazi?

I hadn't thought of that. He could do that if he were a true Patriot. But it seems he wants time off to deal with this and won't be testifying, so as muchb as I like this idea, I'm thinking he is holding info over Obama.

If we really wanted to get into conspiracy, what if the woman was provided to him ala Bohemian Grove style, Eyes Wide Shut style, as a way to blackmail him in the future. I believe this happens more often than we know.

but why Benghazi?

Because if anybody knows what really went down he would, and it's not a pretty sight if Obama watched in real time and made the order to stand down. Petraeus may feel he cannot testify against the Prez right now, and possibly because if he followed BO's orders he could also be culpable.

You have got to be joking Bill Clinton was a porn star compared to David Petraeus he had Paula Jones and Monica Lewinksy remember the millions of dollars in resources that were spent by the republicans investigating this? I cant see a dead corpse in this story but I can smell one!

The head of Lockheed Martin resigned as well, for almost the same reason.
finance.yahoo.com...

Isn't Lockheed the manufacturer of the drone that crashed in Iran?

Coincidence?

It could be something as simple as:

Something is coming down and these good men do not want to be a part of it.

Petraeus is a good man. We cant really afford to lose good men like this. Sickening.

Yes, I think so too. I woke up today with an strange uneasy feeling(not that I didn't feel that for the whole first two yeaers of OBama) and I couldn't put my finger on it but it feels like something is about to happen.

I tend to agree with your assessment. It does seem to fit the MO of someone in that echelon.

I still think he needed an "out" -- and the entire "cheating" scandal is a weak story. I'm sure his people have a paid-for woman to claim she was the "mistress".

I'm not sure there are more sordid details to this. I highly doubt he is a cho-mo, and I seriously doubt he had a mistress as well. This move, as you said, was an "info-bomb" that can't be easily disproved. Please tell me what MSM outlet is going to challenge a man admitting to infidelity?

If anything, he knows it's about to go down and is jumping ship. It's as simple as that.

The man can retire today, and probably doesn't feel he should have to quote, "Deal with this bull....!"

I feel it too -- something ominous is about to drop. I have no idea what, but with all the banksters bailing over the last year.

I don't think it's a coincidence.
