I'm sorry, I haven't gotten too involved in this case aside from a couple of perfunctory searches. How did they cover it up? Is there proof of this or is it just conjecture?

And if there is proof, why isn't the dean of the university from 1998 sitting right next to Sandusky as the defendant?

I mean really... if this was covered up then far more people could have been involved and Sandusky could very well be the fall guy, right?

Is there any part of you that would be ok with having people think you were molested ? If it happened to you could you talk about it? It happened to me and I never speak about it. This is the first time I even mention it. There is a part of victims that believes they asked for this or deserved this or was ok with this on some level and that makes talking about it very hard to do. You dont hear much about victims guilt but it exists. True victims are not seeking the truth to come out. They want the truth to go away not come out.
Those who did speak of this were very courageous.
Now lets say it never happened. Would you still be ok with people thinking that you were molested even if you never were?

Yes, definately. Most child abusers were abused themselves. So sexual identifiication began and ended when they, themselves, were molested at a certain age. Child molestation is a viscious cycle. And I've read that child molestors are notoriously difficult to treat.

That's why you see all the websites with maps of where child molestors live. Everyone knows that child molestors are often repeat offenders. They just can't seem to stop themselves. Even after they've been imprisoned and abandonded by society, they still feel the need to molest children. It's like a heroin addiction.

If you look at it like an addiction, it's easier to understand. Addictions are so powerful.

Of course, I'm not making excuses for these thugs. You can't compare a nicotine addiction (where you're hurting yourself) to an addiction that somehow causes you to hurt another person. Most addictions are harmful to the self. Child molestors seem to have no conscience. Not only are they addicted to a certain action, but they are narcissists and sociopaths to boot. That's a dangerous combination of mental illnesses.

Also note that some child molesters have asked to be "dismembered" because they don't trust themselves not to molest another child. That---in a nutshell--shows you how insidious this affliction really is.

So why do they never think about how they felt when this happened to them ? Why doesnt their own memory of the horrific event keep them from doing that to another person? Do they think if they abuse someone else they will not feel the pain of being abused themselves?
I was abused but I have never even considered abusing another.I dont know where the monster might be hiding within myself.

What get me is how Penn state(those in the football department) covered this up.
And still allowed him to play around there!

I also think its pretty sick for him to take it to trail,and have all those who were abused by him to re-live it with there testomony.
I'm sure there are others also raped by him,but feel shame and embaressed.
I feel sorry for them and hope they heal.

Now one of his adpoted son wanted to speak out also,but was a tad to late.
But now that sandusky wants to appeal,his adopted son will now be able to testify as well then.

His appeal will be useless.
His lawyer knows it to,but as long as he gets paid, they dont care.
Theres just to much against him.
Many times on appeal they end up getting another lawyer,not sure what the lawyer hopes to acheive?

This sandusky should been booted from Penn state years ago.

Joe knew also,and did nothing.
If sandusky was caught stealing equipment like footballs or such,would of been a different story!
But this they kept quiet!

Justice is done.
I hope those he abused and raped can find peace.

I am affraid you are misreading my posts. I am not arguing Sandusky's innocence. I think the SOB is guilty and I hope the other prisoners in prison give him the treatment they usually give child molesters. You are right in that child molestation is unfortunately too common and there are thousands, maybe even millions of child molesters out there.

I am arguing against those who are making these far fetched arguments that he is somehow innocent. There is no conspiracy at Penn State to railroad an innocent man. There was a conspiracy at Penn State to harbor a child molester.

oh come on man. he very clearly says he didnt seek out *every* young person for sexual needs that he's helped. why word it like that? why not just say "i didnt seek out *any* young people for sexual needs that i've helped"?

and you cant honestly think that every person who is sexually abused by an adult they trusted is going to come forward immediately, can you? do you realize that its actually pretty common for people who've been abused to not say anything for years? or to never say anything about it at all?

so basically, according to you, since they didnt report the abuse immediately, they should be looked at with extreme suspicion in the future if they finally decide to speak out. the fact that they were young, still not smart enough to navigate the world alone, vulnerable and absolutely terrified and ashamed at the time means nothing. and being too scared to come forward right away is complete BS to you, huh? the fact that they dont understand the legal system properly at a young age shouldn't matter right? its a crime and it has to be reported immediately or its not going to be taken seriously in the future. do you think these kids understood that? you say "what kind of reasoning is there to feel bad about coming forward about a crime committed against you?" they trusted him. he did nice things for them. of course they're going to feel bad about coming forward and reporting a crime against a man whos done such nice things for them! and Im glad to hear that you knew someone who experienced abuse and reported it right away. good for that person. but thats not going to be the way every kid goes about dealing with this situation. many kids dont have the courage to report their abuse until they're older and mentally more mature and stronger and able to handle things. i know people who have experienced sexual abuse who have NEVER reported the incidents because of things like extreme fear. they know that there are too many people like you out there who will judge them and call them a liar. they're terrified of telling someone, and not being taken seriously.

you compared this type of abuse to a robbery. and that if you were robbed, you would report it right away. well, i think that the emotional and psychological damage of sexual abuse is much more severe than a robbery. not to mention, the victims were KIDS. they didnt understand what happened, why it happened, and how to deal with it. you expect far too much out of children.

I'm happy you mentioned her, because there is no way she didn't not have one clue as to what was going on in that home, and she was an accomplice to crime as far as I'm concerned.

I hope you are correct in saying this isn't the end of it, and more will be prosecuted.

This needs to stop in any arena it takes place in, and I hope more victims find the courage to speak out, especially at a younger age, and it leads to serious investigation.

To add to your words, the victims were KIDS who were hand picked by Sandusky partly because he knew he could have his way with them. These KIDS were brainwashed by Sandusky to think that they were the ones doing something wrong, not Sandusky. These KIDS were brainwashed into thinking they, not Sandusky, would be in trouble if they told anyone about the abuse.

Good, hopefully he gets some time in prison or the death penalty. Instead of getting off on probation.

All I want to know.Is why is this man still breathing our air? There's a little town down in Texas they should drop him off in. Dad's in that town know how to handle such things as this piece of snip.

Now that Sandusky has been convicted he will no doubt roll over on the rest of his buddies if he does not have a heart attack first.
This goes a lot deeper then just Sandusky in my opinion.

I grew up in Southern Pennsylvania and yes child molestation is an issue there. I am from York County originally.

I believe most of it continues because of the social and cultural stigma that is associated with molestation. Post tramatic stress disorder is often the result and it manifests its self differently in different people depending on a persons personality.

I believe that why many of us abused don't come out when the acts occur is because of social and physicological conditioning. Often the abusers are family and now Sanduskys son has come out to let everyone know he was a victim too. Also there is the threat of violence to silence victims.

My only healing occured after self medicating for 15 years, over time and telling the truth about what happened to me. I don't think my abuse happened because or a blood lust but out of ignorance and older teen siblings and relatives experimenting with sex. I think it only became a power and control issue later with them.
