The dems are guilty are as the republicans... When will you realize they're all the same? It's like your rooting for the patriots versus the ravens... but they are both in the NFL.....

Ya and the same system of lending existed for decades BEFORE Republicans gutted the
regulations that made it WORK.

The BANKS made the loans, they were able to make those loans because the laws were
changed via deregulation.

Why do you ignore the truth?

Federally backed mortgages existed and put millions of people in their own homes, but
the banks and their politicians got greedy...

I don't buy that they are exactly the same...

The federal loan program and the home ownership it provided worked fine for decades,
that is the truth. It was not until greed was allowed too pervert the system that we had
this catastrophe.

The truth that the Government forced those banks to give loans to people who knew they couldn't make the payment.

Yeah blame banks is what people do but anyone who was paying attention knows to blame those people who took out those loans when they knew they couldn't afford it.

Goverment created the situation so that Government could come save the dayh and are we forgetting that bailouts continued under the current Potus?

And Tarp was paid back unlike the current Potus bailouts.

But i am sure that truth will get ignored.

And those same people would have defaulted and lost their initial cash investment,
case closed, like it has always worked.

BUT, the GOP made it possible to sell that fake risk and insure that same risk as
a prime investment.

If the extra steps and LAWS stayed in place, those people would have simply defaulted,
but no, the BANKS had to be able to sell the garbage as prime investment material.

What current bailouts?

Do you mean GM regaining position as the largest AUTO manufacturer in the
world, or what???

Yes, that is exactly how they do it. Create the crisis then bring the Statist solution to the crisis.

Those four stars of ignorance are the saddest thing about it all.

Bank lovers
Exactly way those policies were put into place, fools just
like the bank lovers who stared your comment...

How they do what?
I think you guys and your corporate buddies are actually the ones doing this, for reals...

Create a a crisis and us it as an excuse to dismantle societal programs, unions and
the entire pay floor of America.

you guys say it so much, I think you guys are the one employing this technique you keep
referring to.

Inhabit government,

Make government look bad

Use it as an excuse to advance corporatism, destroy unions and justify lower wages.

Neither party has stemed the rise of big government. In my eyes they are the same pizza with differant toppings (abusing metaphors is fun).

Big government does nothing. Government should be as close to the voters as possible (city, county, and state) and federal should be extremely limited. Anything else invites corruption and tyrrany.

The best part of this topic is the title: "Obama To Give The State of The Union Address!"

First question that comes to mind is: "who else would give it?"

It happens every year... this state of the union thing, and it's given by the president. So... what's your point? As thread titles go, it's on the order of "Sun to Rise Tomorrow!"

Sometimes I just wonder what natural selection is doing during natural selection's down time.

So do you oppose the fact that tens of millions of people have become home owners
thanks to Federal loan programs? Prior to any of this mess, entire mortgages were paid
off all thanks to those policies... I do not approve of everything, but there are many cases
where it has done good, both my parents and myself included have benefited from the
student loan programs for another example...

Actually its been brout up many times on ATS,but few want to admit THIS is what is happening.

Thank God,Obama is keeping real!!!!

First proposed in 1966 and named after Columbia University sociologists Richard Andrew Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, the "Cloward-Piven Strategy" seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse.

Inspired by the August 1965 riots in the black district of Watts in Los Angeles (which erupted after police had used batons to subdue a black man suspected of drunk driving), Cloward and Piven published an article titled "The Weight of the Poor: A Strategy to End Poverty" in the May 2, 1966 issue of The Nation. Following its publication, The Nation sold an unprecedented 30,000 reprints. Activists were abuzz over the so-called "crisis strategy" or "Cloward-Piven Strategy," as it came to be called. Many were eager to put it into effect.

In their 1966 article, Cloward and Piven charged that the ruling classes used welfare to weaken the poor; that by providing a social safety net, the rich doused the fires of rebellion. Poor people can advance only when "the rest of society is afraid of them," Cloward told The New York Times on September 27, 1970. Rather than placating the poor with government hand-outs, wrote Cloward and Piven, activists should work to sabotage and destroy the welfare system; the collapse of the welfare state would ignite a political and financial crisis that would rock the nation; poor people would rise in revolt; only then would "the rest of society" accept their demands.

A Strategy of Manufactured Crisis

Republicans aren't any different, big government with a militaristic twist. More of the illusory left/right paradigm. /yawn

Think you're missing the part where the Gov't doesn't actually have any money. The money it spends is that taken from the people. So the Govt didn't pay for your house or school, we did. You're welcome.

without government intervention, the banks would never have loaned those people the money to begin with. The whole point is that those people couldn't afford the homes the banks HAD to qualify them for, or else the banks faced federal downgrades. I't was the GOVERNMENT THAT (&*#D them, not the banks.

And that wasn't the GOP, that was Jimmeh carter and bill clinton.
