Yeah, especially when milk use to be $2.50 a gallon. Now it's close to $6 bucks. OMG, It's like Milk has turned into Gas for some reason.

Starting to wonder if they put the gas in the Milk.
and the Milk in the Gas. I know when I try to fill up, even with $10 bucks, I don't even make a half tank. Just 1/4 of a tank. I wake up the next day wondering who siphoned my gas.
Because it's back on empty.

I read that the Federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour.

Still too much for the likes of the late Steve Jobs. He didn't want to pay that much to manufacture Apple products so he took the work to China where they made the products for much less.

Jobs were lost in America and Jobs became a billionaire. He took billions of dollars out of circulation and hoarded them in his private bank account. Maybe there should be a Maximum Wage as well as a Minimum Wage.

I am in Europe but i used to live in the states - but sorry, $200 a month?

That's how much our CATS eat...where are you getting this "food" you talking about?

Let me calculate...$200/month translates to €4.93/day...if i go to the store i RARELY ever pay below €20 (approx $30)...and this is super, super, SUPER cheap groceries!

I don't think the $200/month can cover more than ramen noodles and some necessities like sugar/coffee..so i am really wondering how you estimate $200/food per month....maybe if you have a farm and grow must of the stuff for yourself...

yep,$200. a month. YEP ramen noodles and such, like i said, bare necessities to survive. BARE. The taxes are a little higher too. than in my graph. but that is the closest to reality here with me as i can get. It really SU#.
We go to food shelf's also. that's $6.66 a day for 30 days. That buys you here in mn a sm can of tuna $.75, a loaf of generic white bread $3.00,a sm generic brand jar of mayo $2.50 and leaves you with $.41 cents left over. YUMM NUMMY. If you feelin lucky. Once every couple of months you can ask the church for handouts. That is the facts for some peoples. Including me.

The $2.50 price tag is probably pre-minimum wage prices. The price hike is to pay for the increase cost of the dairy/farm workers.

Raise the minimum wage and everything has to cost more to pay for it so the minimum wage will always retain the same buying power.

Inflation needs to end. No more salary increases, no more rises in the cost of living. If a person wants to earn more money they take on a higher paying job or work extra hours.

I'm glad the US looks the same from the outside as it does from the inside
. I live in an area with a very low cost of living. I have no debt. Due to a stroke of luck, I'm paying about half of what most would pay for low income housing. I'm making 10.00 an hour. I do alright for lower class, but I have no savings. I have no idea how those making minimum wage are coping.

I don't understand all these people who are on unemployment for months. They must have a pretty big check to get by that long. It seems like they won't settle for less than what they were making before. Is it that hard to get a job out there? I'm all for scrapping the system and having a socialist utopia, but if I've got to suffer, I don't understand why they get a break from suffering at my expense. Oh well, if it's not the unemployed, my taxes are going to the military. It's best I not ask questions, assume the best, and keep working at a meaningless job.

Once upon a time America was the apple of the world's eye. We we're a well educated people and mass produced everything from cars to steel. A man could not only be respected for working hard but could also feed his entire family on a single salary. Today women call it an equal right to kill their unborn children when it should be called what it is: murder. Its seen as equal treatmen that both the man and the woman must now work to earn the same salary a single income brought in the 50s. This should be called slavery... but then again its okay because the state can raise your children. Afterall, this was the purpose of the feminist movement. To destroy the family while making the female sex of the species a slave to the state instead of her husband. There was never an equal medium.

We are slaves without the constant whip to our back. We are criminals until proven innocent. We are cowards labeled brave. We are rednecks and idiots. A nation built on religious freedom with the inability to call a Christmas tree by its name. From dont tread on me to use me as a door mat. We have become domesticated to the point that our founding fathers would sooner spit on us than lift a finger to defend us. We are a stupid, lazy and sheepish people. The blind being lead by the stupid. A country that drops bombs on others in the name of domocratic freedom. We are Rome as the fiddle sounds once more.

Those that dont know history are doomed to repeat it. I hate the scum and corrupt that have ruined this once great nation along with the media sell outs that should be labeled traitors.

A. I would love to make 10 bucks an hour. So, my degree says.

B. I made it, only because, I have a family, that is family oriented.

Some, do not have close ties with their families. And, when they seek help;
you see that scenario that just happen in San Antonio with those 2 beautiful children and their Mother. And obviously, there was no fault with DSS. She asked for this and she asked for that, we have no clue why she just went ballistic. I do. Yes, it can be aggravating.

You can sit there, blame it on the mother. But something tells me, she had no where to turn. I see that, even with a child that I live with, that asks for help from school, from the hospital, court, and even from jail.

No one is willing to take the time to understand her learning disabilities and give her counseling.

The only counseling she has right now.....
Is smoking counseling... She's proud of it. But, that's what she calls it...And that is for drugs and weed... Starting to wonder if this town is so stupid they can't handle one child? This child has never smoked weed. Not, doubting that she didn't say it, because if she hears it, she wants to be a part of it. That is her mentality.

Can't wait for the next court date. It will be a circus. Between her and her mother.

Yes, it is, and the only thing insulting about the minimum wage is that it exists. It should be abolished period.

But... wages aren't the problem, inflation and economic illiteracy is.

Dude, you got shafted. I work in autoparts and a '03Focus SVT clutch SET is $200! That's clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, and the alignment tool.

Yes, I know it's off topic but, I didn't think it was necessary to repeat the same things many other posters have already pointed out on the topic.

minimum wage is designed to keep the poor people poor! Usually the poorer the person, the lower the level of education,(i'm not saying poor people are stupid) but when government schools in the needy parts are under funded then you end up with 50 year old text books, teachers who have no urge to really teach,no motivation for education. After taking care of the education problem ( ie: keeping the populace ignorant and spreading lies and propoganda) you then remove all but the lowest socio-economic job opportunities for the poor and pay them so that they are always in debt. Then you have 2 laws ( one law for the rich, wealthy, mostly white, and one law for the poor, needy, uneducated, mostly black). Incarcerate any and all poor persons for any infringement no matter how small or trivial.Give that person a criminal record to further decrease their opportunities to better themselves or to hope for a prosperous future. The other law for the rich, wealthy and greedy is that you can go to rehabilitation with no conviction or not get charged at all , after all ,money talks and good connections can take care of anything. Then you make avaliable the cheapest legal addictive drug. Alcohol. Sell it on nearly every corner shop in every poor area. Control the information avaliable to the masses and you can control the masses. Keep the masses from the truth and teach them a false belief through false education and keep them ignorant with lies, censorship, propoganda and deception. The need and greed for power and control will destroy the USA

Minimum wage was designed so that I can't pay a guy in peanuts, when unemployment is high and the next day I fire him and get someone who will work for less untill someone is literally paid peanuts to perform a civil service.

I beg to differ when you spelled [available and propaganda] wrong, twice.

So, give a mental ill person a record, when they have absolutely no clue what the heck they did in the first place?

Yeah, that solves nothing.

Take into consideration what we here in Australia spend on items at the supermarket, on utilities, luxuries, real estate etc... and it's really not so impressive. It's damn near extortion, it was pointed out clearly in an earlier post re: price of cars etc..
I have lived in many cities, most of which I can buy items at half or even a third less what they cost here in Aus. It's both saddening and infuriating at times.

I could survive on min. wage in a great US city if I was on my own, no problem but here in Melbourne? probably not so comfortably. It's all a matter of your lifestyle and the way I see it we pay a lot more than most do but we also get paid more to do just that so we're basically paying for the privilege to live in one of, if not the, best city in the world.

'You get what you pay for' right?

edit to add- I am also of the opinion that min. wage is something to help young people get started on out in the work force, not raise families on. You gotta wonder why it isn't age appropriate in more countries...

It's odd that if we were smarter, we fell in line with commercialism and conformity. You'd think that if we were smarter, we would have figured out how to work less and have more leisure time. I'm thinking we were dumb enough to think this life is a pre-show. They read their lines and responded to calls in order to curry favor from their god. They were promised eternal bliss if they played the game. It looks like people adopted personalities and behaviors from the media. They were highly trained circus apes. The mass were duped by the rich and powerful. I see the internet bringing us out of this trap.

I think you can call it whatever you want. I think the government is supposed to stay out of religion so they're not endorsing one over the other. To us atheists, mixing government with religion is not only alarming, it makes the government look ignorant. However, I'm pretty sure the government caters to religion where it can simply for the votes. Something that big, powerful, and manipulating can't be so stupid as to fall for that god trick.

Domesticated like in the 50's? We are smart animals with an ability to contemplate death. This can be used to advantage to train us. We can be taught to wear suits and smoke just like a chimpanzee.

Why do people long for the founding fathers? Old people are old. Time moves on and we learn more. Lets keep evolving this idea of civilization. Give grampa his blanket and a kiss on the forehead, we've got a world to save.

NOW WITH THESE FIGURES IN MIND: and this is very close to actuals even tho they take out more.

For a single person, basic needed living exspenses: Necessities only.

Average rent: $850. a month.
Electric: most rental units do not pay electric and you almost always has an electric stoves. ave. bill=$100 month
Phone: $65 a month.
Gas car to go to work, average 25 miles to work.To fill my tank is $35. and i go thru 2 fills a week.=$70.

$11hr. NOPE
$12hr. NOPE
$13hr. YES, BARELY, NOT RECOMMENDED
$14hr. YES, BARELY, NOT RECOMMENDED
$15hr. YES
$16hr. YES
I feel sorry for those that have children. This only makes things worse.
Most places around here hire you thru temp. services, because buisnesses do not want to pay for health insurance on a newbie. Most temp. services around here start you at $9 dollars an hour. More often what happens they don't hire you after your 90 day trial period and you end up quitting or they say that they don't need you anymore. This practice has been going on since the 80's. If you say something about this they get rid of you and say there is no more work to be done and then they go and hire a new temp and start the process all over again. THIS IS THE NEW FACIST ECONOMY WE HAVE HERE.
Most people get one or two roomates, because they cannot afford to live in the apartments. Rent usually goes up from $850 a month for a one bedroom to a two bedroom apartment.
THE BANKS did not take a cut for our recession. That is why the rent on apartments did not go down at all, it only went UP.
The way around here is, it is helpful to have a two or more person system with helping the bills. Laws here say that you can have only 1 person per bedroom under the age of 12. Remember, the more bedrooms the more exspensive it is to pay.

The banksters, thugs and all who made the laws to let us get like this. We need to fix our economy NOW.
