If you raise minimum wage, the company has to bear the burden of that cost. They surely are not going to pass that burden onto their shareholders or ceo, so where does it go? It is applied to their product, thereby driving up prices for the consumer whose minimum wage raise has now been made void by..well, their minimum wage raise.

Obama is a socialist, he wants everyone to be "equal" like the borg. How is that even remotely arguable? I get positive comments through U2U all the time.

Cheers.

Erm, was actually talking about the OP you responded to in that particular post. Even his avatar was a troll. Wasnt talking about Obama at all.

Oh, I was so busy defending myself from imbeciles who know nothing about business or economics, but pretend they do by repeating phrases they heard on TV like "evil corporations" that I missed that. Apologies.

Please explain that in detail for everybody.

As a person that gets to decide what our prices to the consumer are, I can tell you this:

Unless I am already at the absolute maximum price that the market can bare (which is rare unless you have a monopoly), the added labour costs will most definitely be added to the consumer price.

The last thing that will ever be attacked is my employer's margins.

LOL!!!!! Consumer rights? From where? From which big government agency are consumer prices regulated??

I just raised prices at my business. I didn't get any memo from any agency or consumer rights office anywhere. Do you know what dictated my price increase? THE MARKET. More specifically, my RISING WHOLESALE COSTS. I passed them right on to my customer because you know why, genius? If I didn't, my 9 employees would be out of a job, genius. Because my profit margin had shrunk to ZERO, genius. You know what that evil phrase "profit margin" is, genius?? It is what *I* make from MY business INSTEAD of a wage or a salary. It was ZERO. So, let me help you figure this out, einstein - My employees are getting paid, but I am NOT getting paid. Understand? So guess what, genius, I raised my prices so that I could feed my kids and pay my mortgage. I guess that makes me an "evil business owner" in your eyes.

YOU. DO. NOT. KNOW. SH!T.

Now go read a book that's not written by Karl Marx.

It would only apply to those corporations that had a market share that was the equivalent to a monopoly. In addition to ensuring fair profit margins from these corpoations we should make steps to reduce and limit the market share of monopolies like Walmart.

I assume you dont own a corporation so it would not affect you unless you are a shareholder.

Not sure if it was posted yet, since there are so many useless comments not attempting to answer the question at all...but, our minimum wage is tied directly into the bargaining agreements with Unions. So if the minimum wage goes up, so does all the wages for anyone in a union....which is over half or more of the work force in America.

And you can thank Liberal Democrats and their union ties for that. Keeping the poor as a slave voting class.

You might want to check your facts.

In 2010, total labor union density (the percentage of workers—both public and private—belonging to a labor union) was 11.4% in the United States. For comparison, it was 18.6% in Germany, 27.5% in Canada, and 70% in Finland.[1] Union membership in the private sector has in recent years fallen under 9% — levels not seen since 1932. Unions allege that employer-incited opposition has contributed to this decline in membership.

Okay, then. I am going to close my business and put 9 more people on the unemployment line. SInce I am a traitor by being an employer and paying them above minimum wage at my OWN expense.

And to remind you, I am unemployed, mostly because your president Obama is a socialist who is destroying this country. Thanks to people like you.

You are a traitor to your fellow workers. Do you think owning a small business means you are not a worker? I know from owning one that it never ends. There is always something. And the government makes things harder with taxes and regulations. So you are a worker.
We workers have rights because of unions. You are right to be angry at Obama but dont be fooled by the 'conservatives' The rebublicans are duopoly. They are the same. We all need to turn our backs on them because they dont listen and dont care. Republicans will smash the unions and turn everything private. They are not for the worker. The Democrats are worse. They are not for the worker.

We shouldnt fight amongst ourselves because we need to unite against the corporatists.

Who gets to determine fair? You? The corporation's peers? The government?

Also, can you define monopoly and how Walmart is one?

I assume you dont own a corporation so it would not affect you unless you are a shareholder.

I am a shareholder in multiple corporations. I get paid dividends based on profits not revenues. I am not concerned with what the minimum wage is, or what percentage of the product is labour, etc. I only care about one thing, profits and how much come to me.

Why is that a problem?

Is not stating that the worker deserves more the same?

Why is greed acceptable if it is from 'the worker', 'the poor', etc, but not tolerable when it is from a person well off?

Greed is greed, is it not?

Are you kidding? Walmart is responsible for you losing most of your manufacturing. They have a disproportionate market share. They can monopolize and dominate markets and often pay little or no tax.It makes it too hard for small business. Is also leaves the consumer beholden and at the mercy of corporations.

A good example here in Australia is the Qantas dispute. They grounded their entire fleet leaving passangers stranded and hurting the Australian economy. They did this to break union action and force arbitration. They have a 65% share of the Australian market.I say how dare they.

Now why should we allow a corporation to have a domestic market share of 65%? It hurts competition and it allows the corporations too much power over the consumer and over the citizens within the nation the corporation operates. And too much power over a nations economy in some cases.

We have a new political party here in Australia and one of the major things they are pushing for is to limit market shares of corporations.Corporations are monopolizing everything. Everything is geared to helping the corporations and make it harder for small business. We shouldnt have allowed corporations to have so much power over us. Reducing their power should be a priority.Reducing coporate power should be an election issue, OWS is trying their hardest to make it an issue.
