Look, if you can't afford to go down to the DMV and get a driver's license or non driver ID card then you have some very serious issues. Both cost $12 in New York and you simply have to go to any one of the many NYS DMV offices with 3 forms of ID and fill out some papers.

This implies that the Democrats want to register illegal immigrants to vote which is illegal.

I would like to ask how many elections in the US have ever been overturned because of proven voter fraud at the ballot box. I hear about voter fraud all the time but so far the best cases I have ever seen have been in the computer programming behind the scenes or in the counting but even then I know of no proven voter fraud. Does anyone have anything on that?

How does not requiring an ID to vote allow illegal immigrants to register? I am not trying to argue, I just do not understand the logistics of that is all.

I bet you were one of those people who said "If you ain't guilty, what are you afraid of!" when they introduced the Patriot Act.

It adds one more barrier for people who would otherwise vote. Who wants to go take a driver's test and pay the money just so they can VOTE... it's a freaking right that we have. Not a privilege.

I don't care if it costs ONE PENNY. It's unconstitutional.

ANYONE who think Debby Wassermann-Shultz has a brain or can come up with ANY plausible idea other than Progressive/Socialist Dogma should NOT be allowed to vote in the first place. This 'woman' hasn't the common sense of a gnat let alone being allowed to run the DNC! How she ever got elected in her district says volumes on the constituency involved! None of them should ever be allowed to procreate let alone vote!

You all do realize there are other "races" other than blacks and whites alone, dont you? If you can imagine it, Blacks dont exactly have the corner of the market on racism and BS. Last I checked, blacks didnt have to be issued a freaking ID card from birth in order to prove they exist and have a tribunal of sorts called the BIA to okay their breathing Federally owned air as a human being. I think I was born with several forms of ID.. just to prove I existed. Birth certificate, tribal card, later a CDIB, then a state ID to work, a SS card, then a DL to drive and later a passport. Im in Il now.. we have a FOID card, an occupancy permit, and a voter reg card...

How does anyone NOT have an ID in this century?

I don't know how folks get through life without a photo id. You would think at some point somebody would of asked them for a photo id...like cashing a check. I agree with the showing a photo id to vote I don't see a problem with it. If you wanna vote get an state id card there are not expensive and they are good for like 5 years.

Wow, that's interesting.
Over 1/2 the comments posted on this thread advocate requiring people to pay to exercise their right to vote. What's next guys, paying for my right to free speech? You give the government an inch and they will take a mile.

The only reason this is being done is to discourage people from voting...just to make the process more tedious than it needs to be.

People still find ways to buy alcohol and cigarettes illegally with a photo ID anyway...what makes some of you think that this will be any different?

A social security number should be enough....we all have one and it's exclusive to each one of us. No more should be needed other than some other basic information.

Yup get an ID if you don't have one then you really don't exist. See how it works in a civilized world. Last election Benton Harbor Michigan 92% black population 11680 people 9618 voted. Now if you figure there's over 4600 in the school system some of the numbers just don't jive. The democrats like it this way.

Yeah... it's pretty scary. These same people will be wondering why they can't vote 20 years from now when they fail to present their credit report at the ballots.

What this implies is that you advocate that anyone with a low income should not have the right to vote. Are you afraid that they won't vote like you want?

Just curious; what did poor people do to you?

Could you give a good reason why someone that is a citizen of this country, would not have some form of identification ? I mean if they will take the time to vote, why not take the time to get a proper id.

1)

Photo ID's cost money.

Voting should not cost money.

Period.

2)

Citizenship does not require a photo ID.

All citizens get to vote.

Period.

3)

Ihre Papiere, Bitte

I though we were done with fascism.

Period.

If I wake up each day in this great country, farm my own food... drink from the spring the flows forth... and I choose to take part in a democratic process that makes this land great and keeps it free... why do I have to be numbered, tagged, chipped, verified, registered, authorized, and licensed? Why? Why? Why? and why?

The right to privacy is a basic human right and the 9th amendment withholds all rights not enumerated in the hands of the individual citizen.

If I was born here to parents also born legal citizens... why do I need to be treated like cattle, enslaved to bureaucracy and public fear with the mark of this ugly beast always in my pocket, or else living in exile from the very democratic process which is supposed to protect my freedom?

How do the numbers not jive? I do not understand how not showing an ID at the booth would allow fake people to register. It looks a lot like many of you have actually never voted. The only people that can vote are the ones in the registration books. Photo ID or no photo ID, you cannot have more voters than you have registrations and the numbers you offered up show no indication otherwise.

Can someone explain to me how this allows voter fraud? I am feel like I am missing something.

Absolutely.. I agree.. however, from my post above, exactly how does someone not have an ID these days? I mean I know my circumstances are a little different than most here and thats obvious to me now. BUT.. how do you just be born and are never issued anything? How do you get through a normal life without id? How do you work, get benefits if you do, have a checking account, welfare, rent, drive.. how does one in 2011 actually live without an ID? WHat circumstances made it so they never had one being born in or a citizen of this country? As I explained above.. I had to have one in order to exist by the law. Is it a matter that every other "race" does not? My husband is white and has a BC, SS card, and an ID forever.

If you read the post.. I listed the ID and never said I was born with photo ID.. I was born WITH ID. The argument is that one needs photo ID which is ludicrous. We all have id already.. or so I thought. Thats why I asked the question.

Let me say it real slow.. why do we need a photo ID to vote if we already have ID? What is so special about having a photo if the voter reg cards or simply showing your BC or SS at the polling place would be sufficient? In 2011 I can not imagine a person not having a photo ID either. How does anyone get by without it?

As all your Presidents are related to our queen it's more like a monarchy than a republic, a free, no chip photo id that only has to be presented at the voting station and not carried at all times is the only way I'd support this issue if I was a US cit, anyway wasn't all the fraud done by the Bush clan via Dibold machines and hanging chads.

It's easy for the elderly not to have one. My grandmother doesn't have one as she doesn't drive and she has a hard time getting around. This does nothing but discourage her from voting.

The only reason 75 percent are advocating these measures is because everyone thinks they are smarter than everyone else. No one wants anyone else to vote that strongly differs from their own stances.

It's no different than those, including myself, who think everyone is a worse driver than themselves. Everyone is this way. Would I love for some people to not be driving on the roads I drive on? Absolutely.

Do most drivers feel the same way about me? Most likely.

Our votes already have lost much of their sway due to corporate lobbying...why do people advocate weakening the people's power even more?
